CHAPTER 147: CHAPTER 147: A DELIGHTFUL CONVERSATION

Li Dongxiang sat on the bed, watching the interaction between Yang Lin and Chen Jun’s mother, gnashing her teeth in hatred.

If it weren’t for that damned old woman, how could she have been beaten by Chen Jun like this?

"Why are you trying to please that old lady so much?"

Li Dongxiang said angrily to Yang Lin.

Yang Lin listened to Li Dongxiang’s words, looking down on her even more in her heart.

But she still immediately put on a smile, walked to Li Dongxiang’s side, and whispered.

"Sister-in-law, you see, you haven’t been able to move around much lately, so I’ll definitely come to see you often. If I get along well with your mother-in-law, we won’t have to be sneaky in the future. Isn’t that great?"

Li Dongxiang listened to Yang Lin’s words and thought that’s reasonable.

She thought that once she recovered, she must send that old woman back to the countryside.

Yang Lin also felt upset thinking about this; why is Gu Yi always so lucky?

They had already stirred up the army wives in the barracks against him, but with Chen Jun’s mother meddling, the rumors about Gu Yi were gradually calming down.

"Isn’t it all because of my mother-in-law? Ever since she came, I haven’t had a day of peace. She’s been stirring up trouble at home every day, all because I withheld a bit of her living expenses earlier. Does she really have to hold onto it so tightly?"

Li Dongxiang said, casting a resentful glance towards the kitchen.

Yang Lin thought to herself that if Li Dongxiang didn’t have some value, she really wouldn’t want to associate with her at all.

If she didn’t want them to ruin her plans, Yang Lin wouldn’t be so kind as to comfort Li Dongxiang.

Li Dongxiang didn’t want to talk about Chen Jun’s mother anymore with Yang Lin.

Yang Lin understood what Li Dongxiang meant, just wanting some money. As long as she could accomplish her tasks, this little money was nothing to her.

"You’re straightforward, sister. I’ll try to recover quickly and won’t delay your affairs."

Li Dongxiang grinned so broadly that her eyes vanished, looking at the money in her hand.

She quickly stashed the money away since all of Chen Jun’s allowance went to his mother, and if she didn’t save a bit now, life would become really hard.

Yang Lin pretended not to see anything.

The two continued to quietly scheme about how to make Gu Yi suffer.

"Girl, come out and sit for a while. Once your Brother Chen comes back, we can eat."

Chen Jun’s mother brought the dishes to the table in the living room, calling out to Li Dongxiang’s room.

"Auntie, coming."

Yang Lin replied as she walked towards the living room.

"Are you hungry? Your Brother Chen will be back soon. Let’s wait for him, alright?"

Chen Jun’s mother kept calling him ’your Brother Chen,’ as if they were very close.

Although Yang Lin felt a bit uncomfortable hearing it, she didn’t say anything and just smiled at Chen Jun’s mother.

Seeing this, Chen Jun’s mother thought to herself that the young lady must have some interest in her son Chen Jun, because with just one comment, she got bashful.

Chen Jun’s mother regretted now; had she known this, she wouldn’t have let Chen Jun marry that Li Dongxiang, whom she’d never approved of, so soon.

If things were different, she might already be enjoying a daughter-in-law’s blessings by now.

Watching the shifting expressions of happiness and regret on Chen Jun’s mother’s face, Yang Lin was thinking of something to say to break the awkwardness.

Just then, the sound of the door opening came from the entrance.

Chen Jun entered after opening the door.

Yang Lin, seeing him come in, immediately relaxed. Finally, someone came, and she wouldn’t be stuck with Chen Jun’s mother staring at each other awkwardly.

However, this reaction by Yang Lin led to another misunderstanding by Chen Jun’s mother.

She thought that Yang Lin was finally happy to see her sweetheart, hence her delight.

"Junzi’s back, help me keep Yang Lin company. You guys start eating. I’ve still got one more dish to cook. I’ll be right back."

Seeing her son’s indifferent face, Chen Jun’s mother thought of leaving them alone for a while.

She found an excuse and went into the kitchen.

Yang Lin looked at the four dishes on the table, thinking didn’t Chen Jun’s mother say they would start eating as soon as he got home? So why was there still more cooking needed?

"Doctor Yang, have a seat. I’ll go wash my hands and be right back."

Chen Jun had been so bothered by his mom and Li Dongxiang lately that he didn’t even want to come home.

So after training, he dragged his feet before returning.

Seeing Yang Lin here, he figured she was surely here to discuss creating trouble for Gu Yi with Li Dongxiang.

He was somewhat annoyed with Yang Lin too, though her initial intention was to stand up for him, but because of that idiot Li Dongxiang, not only did they gain no benefit, but his home also became chaotic.

Given Yang Lin’s good family background, he didn’t let it show. He greeted her before heading to the bathroom.

"How’s everything at the military hospital?"

Chen Jun came out and, to avoid any awkwardness, started a conversation.

"It’s pretty good. The doctors there are nice to me and willing to teach me things."

Yang Lin replied with a smile.

Chen Jun thought, with her father around, who wouldn’t treat her well? Unlike himself, with no background at all, even if he had talent, the leaders above wouldn’t notice.

If only he had a family background like Yang Lin’s.

He smiled more gently at Yang Lin.

"They’re definitely willing to teach you because they see you’re gentle and eager to learn."

Choosing his words carefully to make Yang Lin happy.

"Not quite, but recently a senior who just returned from abroad has been teaching me psychological treatment methods. There’s a hypnosis technique in there that’s quite fun."

Yang Lin felt pleased by Chen Jun’s praise for being gentle and shared some of her daily activities with him.

"What’s hypnosis?"

This was the first time Chen Jun heard the term.

"It’s when someone goes through really bad experiences, gets heavily hit, and their personality changes drastically. At that point, you can use hypnosis to make them forget some of their experiences, and they can return to their original self."

"There’s such a treatment method? That sounds amazing."

"Yeah, back in the barracks, life was more mundane with fewer issues. Now at the hospital, every day you encounter all sorts of strange things."

"You should really study well. Then you can always solve any problem you encounter."

The two chatted one line at a time, and the atmosphere was quite good.

Chen Jun’s mother, peeking from the kitchen, couldn’t stop grinning as she watched.
