CHAPTER 148: CHAPTER 148: YE QIAN’S PHONE CALL

Li Dongxiang in the room also perked up her ears to listen to Chen Jun and the others talking.

Even though Chen Jun’s voice was particularly gentle when talking to Yang Lin.

But she knew that Yang Lin had feelings for Ye Hao.

So, even though she felt a bit uncomfortable, she kept quiet.

Yang Jun’s mother saw that she had almost finished in the kitchen and brought out a plate of scrambled eggs.

"Look at you two, talking so much you forgot to eat. Come on, you must be hungry."

The smile on Chen Jun’s mother’s face couldn’t be hidden.

She served two bowls of rice and handed them to Chen Jun and Yang Lin.

"You two go ahead and eat. I’ll take Dongxiang’s meal into the room."

"Thank you, Auntie. Why don’t I take it in for my sister-in-law?"

Yang Lin stood up, taking the bowl and politely added a remark.

"No need for a guest to do this. Just eat in peace and have more food."

Chen Jun’s mother served another bowl, added some dishes, and with a warm smile to Yang Lin, went into the room.

Yang Lin and Chen Jun resumed their earlier conversation.

Chen Jun’s mother put the bowl on Li Dongxiang’s bedside and didn’t bother further, returning to the living room.

She silently listened to Chen Jun’s conversation and occasionally praised Yang Lin.

By the end of the meal, everyone was quite happy except for Li Dongxiang, who was lying on the bed.

After Yang Lin finished eating, she said she would take her leave.

She went into the room to greet Li Dongxiang, then left.

After Yang Lin left, Chen Jun still didn’t go in to see Li Dongxiang.

He just spread a quilt and slept on the sofa stool in the living room.

Chen Jun’s mother also went back to her room to rest.

Li Dongxiang listened for a long time, and outside she could hear Chen Jun snoring, which made her angrily punch the side of the bed.

Gu Yi was washing dishes in the kitchen when she looked up and saw Yang Lin glaring at her from a distance.

At the moment Gu Yi and Yang Lin exchanged glances, Yang Lin suddenly gave a strange smile and strode towards the direction of the army gate with an air of arrogance.

Seeing this, Gu Yi smiled and shook her head.

Was this all to set her up by frequently visiting Li Dongxiang? It wouldn’t be long before she regretted it.

Sometimes, Gu Yi was just too lazy to argue but wouldn’t allow herself to be bullied.

For Yang Lin, she didn’t have much sympathy; it was all self-inflicted.

Now the weather was gradually warming up.

Today was another sunny and windy day.

Gu Yi stayed at home, her mind filled with thoughts of how Ye Hao was doing outside. She thought it would be better to find something to do.

She took a hoe and turned over the soil in the yard outside.

She left a small path from the yard’s door to the house’s door.

Seeds were scattered on both sides of the path.

The remaining ground was sown with vegetable seeds—beans, cucumbers, and peppers.

Gu Yi thought that she wouldn’t be spending much time in the army this year.

The vegetables she grew could either be dried or pickled if not finished; none would go waste.

After she tidied up the yard, it was already evening.

Gu Yi casually fixed something to eat, washed up, and laid on the bed.

Since it was still early, she could hear the sound of soldiers training in the training ground.

Suddenly, Gu Yi felt an emptiness at home.

"Ye Hao, when are you coming back? Why is there no news at all?"

Gu Yi talked to herself as she stared at the ceiling.

Waiting wasn’t scary; waiting without knowing when it would end was the most agonizing.

Gu Yi closed her eyes, and images of nightmares surrounded her vision.

She opened her eyes again, sighed, and reached for the novel on the bedside table to read.

When it got late, and she could no longer keep her eyes open, she put down the book and slowly fell asleep.

Meanwhile, on the other side, Ye Hao was hiding among the bushes, gazing at the moon.

Wondering what Gu Yi was doing now, was she thinking of him just as he was thinking of her?

Was she worried that he hadn’t returned yet?

"Captain, how much longer do we have to wait here? Do you think the intel from above might be false?"

Next to Ye Hao, Wang Wei couldn’t hold back and spoke to Ye Hao softly.

They had received orders to move from another ambush location to here and had waited several days, but the criminals they were waiting for still hadn’t shown up.

Wang Wei wondered if someone had provided false information to their superiors.

Waiting like this indefinitely, they didn’t know when they could return to the army.

"There should be no mistake. Let’s keep a close watch and try not to make any noise. Those people are cunning, any slight sound could alert them."

Although Ye Hao also wished to return, as the leader, he needed to keep the soldiers’ spirits high.

As soon as he finished speaking, everyone quietly returned to their positions.

The next day after breakfast, Gu Yi watered the yard.

She lingered until three in the afternoon.

Only then did she leave for school.

When she returned home from school in the evening.

Soon after entering, the phone at home rang, and her heartbeat accelerated.

Gu Yi quickly checked the phone number to see it was from the Ye Family.

She relaxed and answered the call, sitting down on the chair next to her.

"Hello?"

"Sister-in-law, it’s me, Qianqian."

"Qianqian, what’s up? Why are you calling so late?"

"Sister-in-law, didn’t you say last time that I could develop in B City? I wanted to ask if it’s okay for me to go now."

Hearing this, Gu Yi felt that something must have happened to Ye Qian.

"Qianqian, what’s wrong?"

"Sister-in-law, I’m a bit scared. Mom and Dad didn’t want me to tell you because they didn’t want you to worry over there."

Ye Qian’s voice was choking up on the other end of the line.

"What exactly happened?"

Ye Qian hesitated, while Gu Yi was anxiously waiting on the other side.

"It’s still Wu Liang. Now he comes to the shop every day. He doesn’t come in, just stays at the door, watching me. Whenever I go out, he asks for another chance. I’ve told him many times that it’s impossible between us, but he just shows up every day. I’m really scared."

Ye Qian now regretted the time when her sister-in-law and brother said Wu Liang wasn’t suitable for her, yet she didn’t listen.

"Did you call the police?"

"We did, but the police said he’s standing in a public area, not in the cake shop, so they can’t do anything."

Gu Yi pressed her temples while listening.

"What did Mom and Dad say?"

"Now Mom and Dad are accompanying me in and out. They think Wu Liang’s behavior will only last for a while. After some time, he’ll leave on his own, so they didn’t want me to tell you or my brother."

Ye Qian couldn’t help wondering if she was out of her mind back then, thinking of spending a lifetime with Wu Liang.

"Then close the shop for a while. You and Mom and Dad can come visit me here. Once you’re here, we can figure out a plan."

Gu Yi knew that Ye Family’s parents were right too; Wu Liang couldn’t just hang around doing nothing forever.

But for now, it seemed like he would be lingering around Ye Qian for a while.

Ye Qian was still young, and it wouldn’t be good for her to develop a psychological shadow towards men.

"What if Mom and Dad refuse? The shop’s business is pretty good recently, and I’m afraid they won’t want to leave."

Ye Qian was worried her parents might not agree, and then she’d have no other options.

"I’ll talk to Mom and Dad. I’ll call back at noon tomorrow. Before you come, don’t let Wu Liang sense anything. If he comes several times and doesn’t find you, he’ll eventually leave."

Gu Yi thought that her in-laws would definitely listen to her for Ye Qian’s sake.
