CHAPTER 31: CHAPTER 31 YE QIAN GETS SCARED

Gu Yi and Ye Hao brought a bowl of noodles back for Ye Qian on their way.

When they arrived at the guesthouse, Ye Qian had just gotten up. She couldn’t tell how well the two were getting along from their appearance.

Ye Hao remained expressionless and ignored the look Ye Qian threw at him, knowing she almost caused his wife to leave him. His face darkened immediately, and he continued to ignore her.

Gu Yi, having lived another lifetime, knew what Ye Qian was up to the moment her eyes shifted.

"Qianqian is awake just in time. We brought you some noodles, eat while it’s hot."

Gu Yi placed the noodles on the table and opened the package.

While Ye Qian ate the noodles, she kept looking at her brother for answers. Ye Hao also ignored her, and Gu Yi found it somewhat amusing.

"I’ll go take a shower, you guys chat for a bit." Gu Yi picked up her clothes and basin and went out.

"Hey, brother, did you make any progress with my sister-in-law?" Ye Qian watched Gu Yi leave and squeezed next to Ye Hao with her bowl.

"Eat properly.""What’s going on? I’m dying of curiosity; my sister-in-law seems nice."

"Your sister-in-law wants to break up with me, says I only married her because of family pressure, and now she’s unwilling." Ye Hao said deliberately.

"Ah, how did sister-in-law find out? Did she hear what I said to mom? Then she knows you like Yang Lin."

Ye Qian was truly frightened; if sister-in-law left her brother, what would happen? How did sister-in-law happen to overhear?

Ye Hao was infuriated by Ye Qian’s words.

"So you really said that? When did I ever like Yang Lin? How come I don’t know?"

Ye Qian saw her brother’s face turn dark with anger and was scared to utter a word.

"Tell me clearly today," Ye Hao shouted, making Ye Qian shiver.

"Mom said last time Yang Lin came home, it was because you arranged it, and then you were never happy about marrying sister-in-law."

Ye Hao laughed out of anger.

"Did I not tell mom? She came by herself, and at that time I hadn’t even met your sister-in-law. It was mom who tricked me into coming home; how could I be willing? But this has nothing to do with Yang Lin."

"Brother, do you really not like Yang Lin?"

"What do you think?" Ye Hao said through gritted teeth.

"You should explain things to sister-in-law, we really didn’t mean it, dad, mom, and I all hope you and sister-in-law can be happy together." Ye Qian was about to cry.

After all, she was his own sister, "Okay, in the future, say more good things about me in front of your sister-in-law, let her not always think about leaving me, also talk to mom about it. Got it?"

"Yes, got it, don’t worry brother. Dad and mom won’t agree to you being separated; we’ll all speak well of you, I promise." Ye Qian said sincerely to Ye Hao.

"Alright, hurry up and eat; the noodles are going soggy."

When Gu Yi returned, Ye Qian looked at her with resentment. She curiously glanced at Ye Hao, who pretended to look at the room’s furnishings, avoiding her gaze.

Seeing it was getting late, Ye Hao really wanted to spend more time with Gu Yi, but they’d just arrived today, must be exhausted, and were going to buy things in the city tomorrow, so needed to rest early.

"Alright, you should head back," Gu Yi didn’t insist on keeping him, and Ye Hao watched her without moving since there was no sign she intended to see him off.

This time, Ye Qian was smart, "Sister-in-law, why don’t you see my brother off? I need to finish eating these noodles; they’re going soggy."

Realizing Ye Qian wanted to reconcile them, mainly unable to bear Ye Hao’s aggrieved look.

"Okay, let’s go, I’ll see you to the door." She spoke and led the way out.

"I’m leaving now." This time Ye Hao left quickly.

"What did you say to Qianqian? She looked guilty and resentful."

"Just told her to behave, and help you more."

Gu Yi looked at Ye Hao, it didn’t seem like he was lying, so she didn’t dwell on it.

"Qianqian is very kind to me, always helping me, and she’s smart. Have you thought about her marriage? Planning to find someone in the village or maybe someone from the army?"

Gu Yi began discussing Ye Qian’s marriage.

"That depends on dad and mom’s opinion. My selfish wish is for her to marry nearby; I’ll be in the army, going to military school soon, likely spending my life in the army, and can’t care for the family. If Qianqian is closer, she can look after them, but ultimately it’s up to dad, mom, and Qianqian’s own wishes."

"Well, that’s true. Anyway, Qianqian is still young, there’s no hurry, but if she doesn’t want to marry within the village, you could find someone suitable in the army. Maybe because you’re in the military, she seems to have a favorable opinion of soldiers."

Ye Hao found it amusing that Gu Yi said Ye Qian was young; she was actually a few months younger than Ye Qian.

But Ye Hao didn’t know that in a previous life, Gu Yi was almost 50 and most people married later, so she genuinely thought Ye Qian was still young.

"Alright, don’t send me off, head back, go to sleep early. I’ll bring breakfast from the camp in the morning." Ye Hao gestured for Gu Yi to return after stepping only a short distance from the guesthouse.

"Okay, you rest early too, we’ll find something to eat ourselves; it’s inconvenient for you to keep going back and forth."

"It’s fine, just wait for me, head back, I’ll watch you go in."

"It’s such a short walk, I won’t get lost, you go on." Gu Yi found it amusing yet warm-hearted.

In her last life, whenever Ye Hao returned or left, he always came or went by himself; she never saw him off or picked him up and never heard him say such things.

For things to head in a good direction, one must start by changing oneself.

Gu Yi arrived at the guesthouse entrance, turned back to see Ye Hao still standing straight there. Seeing her turn, he motioned for her to go inside.

Gu Yi waved her hand at him a couple of times and then went in.

As soon as Gu Yi got inside, Ye Qian pulled her to sit on the bed.

"Sister-in-law, you won’t really leave my brother, will you? My brother is really very good, and he doesn’t have anyone else in his heart; it was just me and mom guessing randomly. Don’t take it to heart; we weren’t aware of the situation before, but today my brother explained it all to me. Can you give him another chance?"

"Did your brother tell you I didn’t want him anymore?"

Gu Yi amusedly thought that man really knows how to hold a grudge, seeing how scared Ye Qian got.

Ye Qian nodded at the side, "Alright, silly girl, your brother was just scaring you. There’s no problem between us. I initially thought he had someone in his heart, that if we stayed together, it wouldn’t be fair for either of us, so I asked if we should separate. Your brother just cleared things up with me; don’t worry."

"Really? Sister-in-law, you don’t know how scared I was. I kept thinking, if you don’t want my brother anymore, where could he find someone as good as you?"

Ye Qian finally relaxed, plopping herself on the bed.

"My brother is too naughty; I was just afraid what he said might be true, then I’d be the culprit along with mom. But sister-in-law, how did you hear mom and I talking? That night I thought you were asleep, so we whispered."

"Oh, I happened to overhear when I went to the restroom; heard you saying your brother didn’t want to marry me, stood outside listening for a bit, haha."

Gu Yi was a bit embarrassed, as it wasn’t really overheard; she only knew about it from her last life. But it’s good Ye Qian thought this way, otherwise she really wouldn’t know how to explain it.
