Reborn in the 80s: She Rewrites Life with Radiance
Chapter 46 Preparing to Move to a New House
CHAPTER 46: CHAPTER 46 PREPARING TO MOVE TO A NEW HOUSE
"Mom, Dad, Sister-in-law, you’re back! Is everything settled with the house?"
Ye Qian saw the three walking from afar. She waited eagerly for them to get closer to ask about the outcome. She had heard the new house was beautiful and was itching to see it.
"All the paperwork is done, we’re just waiting to move in next week."
Ye’s mother quickly shared the news with Ye Qian, already noticing her impatience.
"We can move in next week?"
Ye Qian seemed especially excited.
"Yes, originally we could have got the house today, but the sellers needed some time to move, so we’ll go in next week instead."
Ye’s mother explained to Ye Qian.
"Mom, is it true, that we’ll finally have a home in the county?"
Ye Qian still found it unbelievable.
"Don’t ask me, to me, it feels like a dream too."
Ye’s mother’s reaction matched the same sentiment as when Gu Yi signed the contract, truly like mother and daughter.
Gu Yixiao smiled and hooked arms with Ye’s mother and Ye Qian.
"Mom, Qianqian, we’re not dreaming, it’s all real. We’ll work harder to buy even better houses and everything else we want."
"Yes, we will all work hard. It would be wonderful if Hao Hao were at home; he’d surely be happy about this too."
Ye’s mother sometimes felt like something was missing with her son away, especially when it came to sharing big happy occasions.
"It’s okay, Mom, I’ll write to my brother later and tell him this great news."
"Alright then, go write it now, and send it to your brother as soon as you’re done."
Ye’s mother realized, yes, they could write to Ye Hao. Lately, with all the busyness, not only had Ye Qian not been in much contact with Ye Hao, but Gu Yi hadn’t been keeping in touch either, usually just calling him when she was out.
They hadn’t gotten around to telling Ye Hao about buying the house yet.
"Mom, Qianqian, don’t bother writing. Ye Hao might be coming back soon, by the time the letter arrives, he might already be home."
Gu Yi hurriedly stopped the anxious Ye’s mother and Ye Qian.
Both looked at her when they heard that.
"When Qianqian and I visited him last time, he said that since he performed so well in the army, they gave him a spot in military school, and he could take some time off before attending."
Back then, when Ye Hao told her, she feared there might be changes, so she hadn’t told the Ye Family about it.
The last time she went to the army, Ye Hao said the paperwork had been issued, so she assumed everything was set. However, when Gu Yi returned, she got caught up in the busyness and forgot to relay this to the Ye Family.
If Ye’s mother hadn’t suggested writing to Ye Hao, they might have waited until he came back to tell them about military school himself.
"Really? This is wonderful news! Is Hao Hao coming back in the next few days?"
Ye’s mother, upon hearing what Gu Yi said, was eager for more details.
Though Ye Fu didn’t say anything, he was all ears, listening in on their conversation, with a smile revealing his happiness.
"Yes, it’s true. I spoke to him on the phone last week, he mentioned returning in the next few days."
"That’s great, it’s good he’s coming back. When he does, I’ll cook lots of good food for him to enjoy. It’s been over half a year, and who knows how he’s been doing in the army."
"Mom, don’t worry, the army’s tough with training, but they won’t skimp on food. Last time, Qianqian and I even tried their cafeteria’s buns, which were full of meat and vegetables, and so delicious. Right, Qianqian?"
Even though life in the army was tough, someone had to do it. Gu Yi was afraid Ye’s mother would worry too much, so she quickly changed the topic to food.
"Yes, exactly, the buns at my brother’s army base were really tasty."
Ye Qian hurried to agree.
"That’s good, as long as he’s eating well, it’s alright if the training’s tough."When Ye Hao decided to join the army, it was partly because of his own enthusiasm and partly because the Ye Family’s parents didn’t want to hinder his prospects.
Back then, the family’s financial situation wasn’t great, and Ye Hao only completed high school. If he stayed home, he would have been working in the field like them for his whole life, without much hope.
The decision to send him to the army had been made with preparation, but as his mom, sometimes the thought still made Ye’s mother emotional.
As time went on, Gu Yi and the others continued to be busy.
On Friday, the elderly couple, who were the previous owners, handed the keys to Gu Yi. Their youngest son came by car to pick them up today, and they had moved everything.
That very day, Gu Yi and the others planned to move on Sunday.
On Saturday morning, when they had some free time, Gu Yi took Ye’s mother and Ye Qian to town to buy some things for the new house.
Though the previous owner left their furniture for them, it was a new start for them, and they wanted to buy a few things to add a touch of joy.
"Mom, Qianqian, let’s buy some bed linens. Pick whichever style you like, and then we’ll stop by where they make duvets to check if they’re ready."
"No need to buy bed linens, we have two sets in the store and some spares back in the village. Two new duvets are enough."
Upon hearing about buying new items, Ye’s mother felt reluctant to spend so much and thought they could use the extras they already had.
"Mom, it’s a new house, so we should have new things. We don’t have to buy furniture, so let’s get new bed linens to switch them out later. Plus, we should keep two duvets at the store in case anyone gets tired and needs a rest in the afternoon."
"Mom, listen to sister-in-law. We earn money to spend it and enjoy life, right? If we don’t, why do we work so hard? Anyway, I’ve made up my mind; I’ll pick what I like and pay for it myself."
Ye Qian felt confident with money in her pocket, believing in spending on what’s necessary, so they wouldn’t end up denying themselves.
"Look at you, alright, then you can pay for everything later. Your sister-in-law spent on the house, so here’s your chance."
Ye’s mother laughed, gently patting Ye Qian’s shoulder on seeing her little defiant attitude.
"Sure, Sister-in-law, just don’t fight with me later. I didn’t contribute to the house purchase, but I can help with these smaller expenses."
Ye Qian originally intended to pay for these things as she earned her money with her sister-in-law, feeling she should not let her sister-in-law do everything while she stood by idly.
"That sounds good! We’re just short of money, so here’s Qianqian’s chance to shine."
Gu Yi jokingly added.
Gu Yi and Ye Qian each held one of Ye’s mother’s arms, chatting and laughing together along the way.
They ended up buying four new sets, and when it came time to pay, Gu Yi took care of it first.
Once back at the store, they quickly washed and hung the items to dry.
In the afternoon, as Ye Fu was about to go home, Gu Yi asked him to stop by her house and invite her parents and brothers to come over to the new house for a meal the next day.
