CHAPTER 48: CHAPTER 48 MISUNDERSTANDING

The women finished eating first, while the men were still drinking and talking loudly.

Once they were done, they went to the kitchen to chat, and soon Gu Hui and Gu Min wanted to sleep.

Gu Yi suggested her two sisters-in-law take the children to her room to sleep.

Ye’s mother knew that Gu’s mother and Gu Yi wanted to talk, so she sent Ye Qian away to give them some privacy.

"Yiyi, your father-in-law came to us yesterday, and your dad and I were quite surprised. But buying a house is a good thing."

"Mom, it just happened that way. The person selling the house was in a hurry, so I didn’t get a chance to let you know."

"That’s no problem. But do you have enough money to buy the house?"

"I have enough. I earned some money over the past two months, and my in-laws gave me an extra thousand. Ye Hao had also given me quite a bit earlier, so it all added up."

"Your in-laws are sincere people. You should be good to them in the future; they have it tough with Ye Hao serving in the military and both of them having to manage the household."

"Yes, mom, I know."

"Today, I noticed Ye Hao is really good. He knows to hand the money to you, he looks spirited and is polite. Several times I saw him sneak glances at you; the more I see him, the more I like him."

Gu’s mother couldn’t help but smile broadly as she said this.

"Mom, you’re like a mother-in-law looking at her son-in-law with more amusement by the day."

"He really is a nice young man. Now that you have the house, you should hurry up and give me a grandson; that’s the main thing."

"Mom, you never forget this, do you?"

Gu Yi felt a bit embarrassed by her mother’s words.

"What’s there to be embarrassed about? You’ve been married for so long; you should hurry up."

"Yes, yes, you’re right, okay."

This was one of the rare occasions in the past two months when the mother and daughter had a heart-to-heart talk.

Ye Hao had only met Gu Yi’s family during the wedding, and he didn’t get a chance to drink with Gu’s father back then.

This time, he wanted to take the opportunity to get on the good side of Gu’s father and the Gu Family Brothers, reassuring them about his relationship with Gu Yi.

The Gu Family wanted to see how Ye Hao held his liquor; after all, they say that a man’s drinking reflects his character.

Gu’s father sat at the table, and Ye Fu accompanied him the whole time.

They started at noon around twelve and didn’t finish until nearly two o’clock, with Gu Yi reheating dishes several times in between.

Everyone’s faces were bright red from the drinking; it was obvious that Ye Fu and Gu’s father had drunk too much.

The Gu Family Brothers, though flushed, still seemed quite sober.

Except for looking paler than usual and smelling of alcohol, there was no telling how much Ye Hao had drunk.

Ye Hao and Gu Yi saw the Gu Family to their car together.

"When you get back, let Ye Hao have a good sleep; he definitely had too much today. The kid can really hold his drink; even teaming up with me and your second brother didn’t bring him down."

Gu Family’s eldest brother said this to Gu Yi as he pulled her aside when leaving.

After the Gu Family left, Gu Yi walked back while observing Ye Hao.

Did he get drunk or not?

Ye Hao seemed a bit more out of it than usual. When Gu Yi looked at him, he smiled at her, but in no time his face returned to being expressionless.

Gu Yi knew he must have had too much; otherwise, he wouldn’t have looked so silly when smiling.

When they got home, Ye Family’s parents and Ye Qian were not in sight, presumably already back in their rooms resting.

Gu Yi took Ye Hao to their room and went to fetch a basin of water from the kitchen.

When she came back, Ye Hao was still sitting upright on the edge of the bed. Seeing her, he kept smiling.

Gu Yi playfully glared at him, and he immediately put on a pitiful face.

When Gu Yi said to wipe his face, he obediently leaned forward; when she said to wipe his hands, he extended his hands obediently.

"You should get some sleep; I’ll pour out the water."

After setting things up for him to sleep, Gu Yi went to pour out the water.

When she returned, Ye Hao was still sitting upright.

"Why aren’t you sleeping yet?"

"I want to wait for you."

Gu Yi felt her face heat up at this.

"Ye Hao, do you know who I am?"

"Gu Yi, my wife."

Alright, seems like he’s not totally out of it.

"Okay, you go to sleep now."

"No way, we have to sleep together."

Even though she knew Ye Hao was drunk, she still felt embarrassed hearing it.

When Gu Yi didn’t move, Ye Hao just sat there looking at her.

"Fine, you win. Sleep now."

Seeing Ye Hao’s reddened eyes, Gu Yi couldn’t bear to argue with him anymore.

Gu Yi lay down on the bed first, and seeing her lie down, Ye Hao quickly climbed in beside her.

In the end, he lifted his head, thought for a moment, and then hugged Gu Yi, resting his head on her neck, finding a comfortable position, and sleeping soundly.

While Ye Hao slept comfortably, Gu Yi suffered.

Ye Hao naturally had a high body temperature, and after drinking, he clung to her like a vine.

When Gu Yi tried to edge away from him, he held her tighter as if afraid she’d leave. After several attempts, she dared not move again.

Gu Yi was initially tense, her heart pounding.

Although they had even had a child in a past life, they’d never held each other like this.

As she lay there lost in thought, whether it was from being overheated or truly exhausted, she soon fell into a steady rhythm of breathing.

When she did wake up, she felt she hadn’t slept this well in a long time.

She left the room, seeing Ye’s mother already cooking dinner.

Looking at the clock, it was already half past five, and she was surprised at how deeply she had slept. Gu Yi stood at the doorway, pondering.

"Yiyi, you’re up! It’s almost time for dinner."

Seeing Gu Yi standing dazed at the door, Ye’s mother quickly called out to her.

"Mom, I’m sorry. I slept in. Let me help out."

Feeling quite embarrassed, especially since it was their first day moving in and she had already taken a long nap.

"It’s no problem at all; I’m almost done. You take a rest."

Gu Yi noticed the unconcealed joy in Ye’s mother’s eyes and found it odd, but didn’t think too much about it.

"Mom, where is Qianqian and everyone else?"

When she woke up, everyone seemed to have disappeared.

"Hao Hao and the others have gone to the shop. The students have evening self-study tonight."

Ye’s mother knew Gu Yi was too embarrassed to ask where Ye Hao had gone.

"Oh, I’ll go help out at the shop then."

Worrying Ye Hao and the others would be too busy, Gu Yi hurried over to the shop.

"Yes, go ahead. Come back quickly for dinner after you’re done."

Hearing Gu Yi say she’s going to the shop seemed to make Ye’s mother even happier.

In the afternoon, Qianqian was about to call her sister-in-law to open the shop for the evening business.

Ye Hao had come out from the room and told them Gu Yi was exhausted and to let her sleep, so he went with Ye Qian and others to the shop to help out.

Ye’s mother felt like her grandson was waving at her.

She was too excited all afternoon.

Gu Yi assumed Ye’s mother’s joy was from buying the house, so she went straight to the shop without overthinking it.

On her way there, the more she thought about it, the more it seemed off. While buying a house is indeed joyous, Ye’s mother shouldn’t be that thrilled all the way to now, even more so than in the morning.

Suddenly realizing something, her face flushed red.

When she entered the shop, Ye Hao saw her and quickly approached.

"Why didn’t you rest a bit longer? You must be tired."

As soon as Ye Hao spoke, Ye Qian immediately turned to look at her, and Ye Fu quickly grabbed a bowl and went into the kitchen.

Alright, with Ye Hao’s comment, the misunderstanding just got worse.

The warmth that had faded from Gu Yi’s face now rushed back up.
