Reborn in the 80s: The Smart Wife with a Secret Space
Chapter 53: Could Kick Myself
CHAPTER 53: CHAPTER 53: COULD KICK MYSELF
Thinking that He Jinxuan used to be in the military, he surely kept in touch with his old comrades, so she understood Ye Silai’s meaning: "Thank you, Sili."
Ye Silai waved his hand with a smile, "You’re welcome."
He thoughtfully moved a nearby stool over for Yu Xinyan, "Sister, have a seat."
After speaking, he didn’t disturb Yu Xinyan any longer and ran back to the bed to continue reading the little picture book he was reading before. Yu Xinyan glanced at him, "Sili, can you understand the words on it?"
Ye Silai nodded, then shook his head, "I know some, but most I don’t. My mom used to teach me some, but after she was gone, nobody taught me anymore."
As he spoke, his mood turned low, probably because he was thinking of his mom.
Yu Xinyan wished she could slap herself for asking such a question: "If you want, sister can take some time to teach you to read."
Ye Silai looked up, his eyes immediately brightening, "Really?"
Seeing him like this, Yu Xinyan said, "Of course."
Ye Silai smiled, "Hmm, I want to learn a lot of words and grow up to be as great as dad."
Yu Xinyan wasn’t familiar with the Ye family’s situation. She only knew his mom was gone, and she was afraid to ask something wrong and make the little guy sad again, so she didn’t ask further and just encouraged him with a smile, "Keep it up."
Ye Silai was very perceptive. Seeing Yu Xinyan sit down, he just replied "Alright" and didn’t bother her anymore.
But from time to time, he would glance at Yu Xinyan and occasionally stretch out his hand to check his younger brother’s forehead temperature.
Yu Xinyan quickly finished writing the letter, read through it once, felt there were no problems, and then put it away, planning to mail it when she went out again.
She got up and walked to the bedside to check Little Siyan’s forehead, thinking: As long as there is no fever tonight, the child should be fine.
Seeing him sleep soundly, he probably won’t wake up anytime soon. She said to the side to Ye Silai, "Sili, watch your brother at home. Sister will go out for a bit and be right back."
Ye Silai looked at his brother on the bed, his expression a bit complex. He wanted to go out with his sister but was afraid that if his brother woke up and found no one, he would cry, which made him very conflicted.
Yu Xinyan noticed his thoughts, "I’m going next door to Grandma Xie’s house to get some scallions and will be right back."
She had good eyesight, and when she went out at noon, she saw scallions sprouting on the windowsill of the Xie house. Since Little Siyan had porridge for lunch, she thought of changing up the taste for the child at dinner.
Moreover, seeing that the Xie family’s yard had a vegetable pool, she thought they would probably save seeds for autumn, so she wanted to build a good relationship first and see if she could get some seeds.
She hadn’t even left yet when people arrived in the yard.
It wasn’t anyone else but Granny Xie next door and the Zhao Family’s Sister-in-law who greeted them before.
Yu Xinyan went out to greet them, "Auntie Xie, Sister Zhao, come in and sit."
Granny Xie smiled and said, "Is Siyan better?"
Before Yu Xinyan could reply, Ye Silai came out from the house, "My brother is sleeping."
Hearing what Sili said, Granny Xie quickly lowered her volume, "Oh dear, then let’s just chat in the yard. We won’t go in."
Sister Zhao was straightforward too, "Yes, the sunshine is just right now, talking in the yard is fine."
As she spoke, she handed over two eggs, "Don’t mind it’s few, just use it to nourish the child later."
Yu Xinyan felt a bit troubled. After all, she wasn’t part of the He family. And with the owner not around, eggs were still a precious item. If she accepted them and He Jinxuan wasn’t happy about it later, wouldn’t she be asking for trouble?
