CHAPTER 140: CHAPTER 140: I DON’T NEED A SELF-STYLED WISE CONFIDANT

Basil Smith did not expect that the first thing the Young Master said was not to order the retrieval of the Young Madam, but rather to ask about this.

Basil bowed his head and said, "I’m not sure."

Godfrey Shaw, with eyes still filled with fury, looked at Basil and said, "Do you know what it means to speak of her spending the night out with a man in front of an out-of-control me?"

Basil gritted his teeth and said, "What I said is the truth."

Although this truth might mislead the already out-of-control Young Master.

After Basil spoke, he suddenly realized, "Young Master, your loss of control has subsided?"

After he finished speaking, he noticed that many of the medications on the side table were missing.

Basil was shocked: "Young Master, you’ve overdosed again, this will cause great harm to your body!"

Godfrey Shaw sneered, "Basil, this time I used the medication I’ve been injecting for years to temporarily disable Amelia. But what if, in my loss of control, I actually broke her leg?"

Basil, without thinking, knelt down with a thud.

Godfrey didn’t tell him to get up. He stood and without looking at Basil, said indifferently, "Basil, I don’t need a smart-ass confidant."

Cold sweat covered Basil’s back instantly, fear rising in his heart: "Young Master, please give me another chance."

Godfrey replied coolly, "Leave, and do not return to the Imperial Garden again."

Basil widened his eyes, void of the usual calm.

"Young Master! I just don’t want to see you get hurt every time you’re with the Young Madam."

Godfrey rose, looking down at Basil, and said, "You still don’t understand, to me, she is more important than my own life!"

Basil trembled all over, as if struck by lightning.

These confidants had followed the Young Master since he left the Capital City at eighteen, eight years ago.

The Young Master established a firm foothold in Riverwood City with extraordinary speed, only starting to inquire about the adopted daughter of the Wright family in the past couple of years.

It wasn’t until this year that the Young Master, under the guise of the Second Young Master, married the adopted daughter of the Wright family, did Basil realize that the Young Master liked Amelia.

But how deep could such affection be?

The Young Master actually said she’s more important than his life.

He simply couldn’t understand, why?

But Godfrey gave Basil no more time to understand, coldly said, "Don’t make me say it again, leave, whether you return to the Shaw family in the Capital City or find another path, you’re no longer my confidant."

Basil repented, "Young Master, I beg you to give me another chance, I won’t make the same mistake again."

Godfrey said mercilessly, "Not everything gets another chance."

Basil and Hailey Smith were orphans from an orphanage.

An orphanage funded by public donations, where funds were embezzled, leaving the children below starving and poorly clothed, often having to scavenge or even beg outside for food.

Basil, with poor health, barely held onto his share of rations under Hailey’s protection.

Living in such hell, they awaited a turning point.

A young man in shiny black car descended. He wore clean, elegant clothes, clearly a wealthy young master.

The servant beside him bent and asked, "Young Master, did you see anyone you like? Only confidants raised from childhood are truly loyal."

All the children bowed their heads in fear and self-abasement.

Only Basil stepped forward, lifted his head, his eyes earnest as if making a vow, "Young Master, choose me, I will be loyal to you for life."

And so, Godfrey Shaw chose the frail Basil.

And at Basil’s request, allowed him to bring along his brother Hailey.

From then on, Basil had a different life.

And he indeed stayed true to his word, loyal to Godfrey Shaw, always siding with him over the main family, unwavering in his allegiance.

Poor health and lack of strength led him to study medicine.

Smart enough to devise strategies.

Over the years, he became the Young Master’s most capable confidant.

But now, the Young Master no longer needed him.

Basil felt lost and fearful all at once.

It’s as if the goal of his lifetime’s efforts suddenly vanished, leaving him unsure of what to do.

He descended the stairs in a daze.

Godfrey Shaw also went downstairs, seeing Hailey and Emma Lewis in custody.

Hailey quickly lowered his head, feeling guilty towards the Young Master regardless of his intentions for forcibly entering the Imperial Garden.

Emma, however, was unafraid, and seeing Godfrey, spewed foul words unabashedly.

"Godfrey Shaw, I truly misjudged you, I once thought you would protect Amelia well. She’s as fragile as a kitten, how the hell can you bear to hurt her repeatedly, even ruining her leg, possibly preventing her from attending the painting exhibition she values. If it weren’t for Amelia, I’d whack open your head and see if there’s anything inside."

Hailey listened, sweating nervously.

Emma was too bold, this is their Young Master, yet she dared to curse him like that...

Imperial Garden’s confidants all darkened their faces, moving to shut Emma’s mouth.

But Godfrey, the one being scolded, wasn’t angry, instead giving the order, "Release them."

The confidants exchanged glances, but immediately complied, releasing the two.

Emma, still stubborn, said, "Don’t think that releasing me will stop me from cursing you."

Godfrey suddenly thanked her, "Thank you for coming to take her away."

Emma was stunned, dumbfounded, what’s going on? Did Godfrey Shaw go mad?

Godfrey gave no explanation, turning to Hailey Smith, "You did well this time, go back and continue to protect her, her leg will be fully functional in no more than two days."

Hailey nodded foolishly, looking at his brother in confusion, wondering if the Young Master had really regained control.

But saw his brother, aimlessly walking out.

Several of the Imperial Garden confidants realized the Young Master had regained composure, also noticing the silently leaving Basil.

Hailey couldn’t help asking, "Brother, where are you going?"

Basil trembled all over, "I’ve been exiled from the Imperial Garden, henceforth... you, take good care of the Young Master."

Hailey widened his eyes, bewildered.

Other Imperial Garden confidants looked at each other, not understanding what had happened.

Godfrey Shaw, weary, turned to go upstairs, his distant voice lingered, "Let them go."

Emma rubbed her twisted arm, glanced at Godfrey, then ran out quickly, as if afraid she’d be caught if she lingered.

Hailey also hurriedly ran out, unable to catch up to Emma, but he caught up with his brother.

Hailey, like a child who made a mistake, lowered his head, "Brother, I’m sorry."

Basil stopped, smiling bitterly.

"You did nothing wrong this time, it’s my fault, my failure to appreciate the Young Master’s kindness in recognition, it’s me who hurt the Young Master under the guise of what I thought was best for him."

"Then where will you go, brother?"

"I don’t know."

"Why don’t you come with me to the old town to protect the Young Madam."
