CHAPTER 247: MEETING HER DOPPELGANGER

There was not a single grain of rice or a hint of green in a kitchen that was rather huge.

"You were here for quite some days now. What were Secretary Ji and Ronan eating?" Ella was bewildered as she turned to Adrian, "What did they feed us today?"

Adrian paused, "Takeouts."

Ella was speechless. Fair enough.

"Baby, is there a supermarket nearby?"

Adrian paused for another moment before he shook his head.

"None?"

"I don’t know."

"_"

For some reason, Ella felt like Adrian’s survival skills were rather... delicate.

Regardless, she checked for any supermarkets around the area and lucky for them, there were quite a few.

Since he was unwell, Ella told Adrian to wait at home while she can go get the groceries as the supermarket was at a walking distance.

But the moment she stepped out, Adrian followed her, dressed in a stunning suit and standing on his gorgeously tall legs.

"Wait... You... You are fine?" Ella looked at him, "You can walk?"

"I injured my hands," Adrian said nonchalantly.

Ella squinted, "Then earlier, why did you let me support you all the way here?"

"Because you wanted to."

"_" Ella had the feeling of being scammed for some reason. Yet, given Adrian’s current condition, she could not bring herself to hold a grudge against him.

...

At the supermarket.

"Oh my god, who is that man?"

"So charishmatic..."

"Look, he is even dressed in a suit."

"It must be a reclusive celebrity out for grocery shopping on a random weekend..."

"I would know him if he was a celebrity."

"You don’t believe me? Can’t you see his short assistant walking ahead, holding that cart?"

Ella nearly stumbled off when the last few words fell in her ears.

Short? Assistant?

She turned to Adrian who was almost a foot taller than her, dressed in an expensive black suit, "Baby, who wears suits to a supermarket?"

Adrian gave her an obvious look of ’I do’.

Following that, the man moved to grab the cart from her hand.

Ella moved it away, "Your hands are injured. I told you, you just need to follow me today."

Ella paid her entire attention to groceries.

Meanwhile, Adrian followed after her, his gaze fixated on her.

The scene between both the people was rather harmonic, despite the chaos they stirred in the supermarket.

After an hour, Ella finally walked to the checkout counter.

The cashier’s eyes widened when she caught of glimpse of Ella from the corner of her eyes, "Miss, I was just about to call for you..."

Ella pointed at herself, "Me?"

The cashier registered Ella’s short hair and took a proper look at her, "Ah, my bad. It’s not you."

At this moment, a sweet fragrance lingered in the air as a young lady stepped past Ella, "Excuse me, I forgot to pay for the items that I added later."

The cashier hurriedly nodded, "Miss, the both of you really look familiar. I almost misunderstood..."

Ella couldn’t see the woman’s face, but she was dressed in a plain brown dress, and her hair was tied in a long braid.

It was only when she turned around and left did Ella catch a glimpse of her.

And for a moment, she was rooted in her spot. The woman... had quite similar features to her.

Now that she was losing weight, she was recovering her features. And for a moment, Ella felt like she was looking at her younger self in the mirror.

No wonder the cashier was confused.

The woman looked nodded at her with a small smile before walking past them.

Ella turned around, still in awe, "Now that I think about it, there is indeed a theory that says around seven people share the same face across the globe. I never believed in doppelgangers until today—"

She trailed off when her gaze landed on Adrian.

The man was looking in the direction in which the lady had left.

"Baby, do you know her?"

Adrian turned around and stroked the top of her head, "No."

Ella blinked. She did not doubt his words but it was rather rare for someone to catch Adrian’s interest for no reason.

Her inner voice: Well, you caught his attention for no reason as well.

Ella: "_"

"S-S-Sir, we... I..."

Hearing the cashier stuttering, Ella snapped out of her thoughts.

When she looked ahead, she was speechless.

Adrian had extended his rare black card towards the cashier who had gone pale with shock.

"Baby, let me pay instead..." Ella gently tugged at his hand, pulling it back, before she offered her own card.

Adrian looked at her confusion but he did not protest.

The cashier on the other hand looked extremely relieved.

Ella found the situation rather comical.

At this point, she did not have to ask Adrian to know that this was his first time in the supermarket.

As they walked out, Ella glanced up at him with a teasing smile, "Did the normal-people experience overwhelm you, Mr. King?"

Adrian looked down at her, expression unreadable but his hands moved, neatly snatching the grocery bags from her hands. "I didn’t hate it," he muttered.

When Ella moved to get the grocery bags back, he lifted his hands so high that she could barely reach.

"Baby, let me hold them. You will hurt your hands."

Adrian chuckled, the sound of his deep laughter halting her in her tracks.

When Adrian met her gaze, he stopped laughing.

His eyes gradually darkened as he shifted all the stuff to one hand and yanked her into his arms with the other hand.

When he lowered his head, Ella unconsciously held her breath.

"I can still carry you with my other hand, along with these."

Heat crept up her ears and an unspoken tension cackled between them.

Ella gently nudged him back but the man did not budge in the slightest.

"Want me to try?" He continued asking.

Red splotched her cheeks by the time he released her.

This time, she no longer fought for the grocery bags and let him carry it all instead.
