CHAPTER 278: THE COURSE OF HER LIFE

Ella stood in a crowded alley, her eyes roaming across the row of small houses. She walked off the house in the corner, slightly secluded from the rest.

"Do it properly. Do you want your father to die?!"

A saucepan landed near Ella’s feet and her eyes locked onto the figure sitting on the ground, wiping the floor.

"Clean it there too..." A man pushed his wheelchair out, instructing Violet, "The house has gotten so dirty yet instead of cleaning it, you’d rather fool around outside... Who are you?" The middle aged man’s gaze snapped to Ella.

Ella finally moved her gaze away from Violet’s figure and looked at the man, "Violet’s friend."

Hearing the voice, Violet jerked upwards and turned around. Her eyes widened when she saw Ella, "Ella, why are you here...?"

She paused and turned to her father, "Dad, I have already cleaned up your room. Why don’t you rest there for now? I will clean up the house in no time once I finish speaking to my friend..."

The middle aged man’s gaze scanned Ella from head to toe. Despite her striking appearance, she was dressed in a plain hoodie and leggings. The man’s lips curled down when he noted that.

"You should be selective about who you befriend out there," the man grumbled as he turned his wheelchair around, "Not everyone is as kind as Miss Yu..."

After he left, Violet smiled at Ella and walked towards her, "I am sorry about that. Esther helped in paying for Dad’s treatment and he has always been fond of her. I did not tell him about the recent incidents so as to not stress him out."

Ella nodded slowly, letting the girl lead her to the small garden space. Earlier when Ruby and her cornered Esther in that room, the words she uttered rang in Ella’s head.

[Violet is no longer a part of this drama, I am replacing her. The director doesn’t want a disfigured actress for this role.]

"Has your skin not healed yet?" Ella looked at Violet.

Violet paused for a moment before she pulled her top down, showing her the fading scars below her collarbone. They looked like they would disappear in a matter of a few days.

"It’s not about the scars. Like you predicted, these would have gone before the shooting started. They needed an excuse to replace me and this... was perfect."

In fact, Violet was not as significant in the entertainment industry.

They could have replaced her without any excuse and she could not fight back at all but her scars gave them the perfect excuse to paint her as the person who deceived them to get the role.

Ella looked at the girl, "You are giving up?"

"I... am not capable, Ella. I have skills but skills are not enough to survive in an industry that is so ruthless," Violet sighed, "Esther offered me an exclusive contract to be her stunt double in all her future projects."

Ella’s eyes narrowed.

"If it was before, I would have agreed. But knowing that the person I treated as my true friend wanted to disfigure me, I can no longer go back to how things used to be between us. I turned her down..."

Ella looked in the direction where Violet’s father had disappeared, "Now..." she paused, not knowing how to continue.

"We come from a small town, I got into the university because of my scholarship... and a part of it was also luck. But I think my luck has run out. I will convince dad to move back to our hometown, I have shortlisted some jobs..."

Ella fell silent.

"You don’t have to pity me..."

"What about Mo Jun?"

Colors drained from Violet’s face and she glanced at Ella in astonishment.

Ella looked at her solemnly, "It was you he was supposed to love, isn’t it?"

The handkerchief that Mo Jun had resembled the one Violet had dropped.

But Mo Jun’s handkerchief seemed to be pretty old even though it was in a good condition, as if it had been cherished over the years.

Ella could not draw the connection between both these people for long. As if there was a missing link.

Until Ella suddenly recalled a memory from her previous life. Once when Esther arrived at the Eve Mansion, extremely drunk, she had felt terribly sick.

Ella had searched her bag for medications, only to stumble upon a satin handkerchief with small violet flowers embroidered in it.

The moment the drunk Esther saw it, she flashed a disgusted look, ’Throw it away... How... cheap! I need to have that bitch’s stuff to hook that fool?!"

’Essie, what happened?’ Ella had immediately hugged her in concern, ’Did someone wrong you?’

Back then, Ella had surmised that Esther must be facing challenges in the entertainment industry. And that is why a soft and obedient girl like her had lost her temper so badly.

"I don’t know what happened between you but if you leave now, then you can never clear the misunderstandings," The moment she said that, Ella noticed the pain that flashed across Violet’s face.

But in the next moment, Violet smiled, "You came to my house to look for me. Was there some special reason behind it?"

Seeing that Violet did not want to talk about it, Ella sighed, "You caught me."

Smiling, she pulled out a small box from her bag, "Ruby and I were concerned about you when we got to know about what happened but she couldn’t tag along because of the photoshoot."

"This...?" Violet took the box curiously.

"I made these chocolates, as a thank you for the cute hoodie you gave me..."

Violet hugged Ella, "I should say thank you. All along, I have only ever been snarky towards you. Yet today, you came here to see me..."

Ella patted the girl’s back. For some reason, her heart grew heavy.

Ella had thought that she knew what was going to happen in the future so she could control the events.

But now, things seemed to be evolving in their own way.
