Reborn Together: The General and I Reach for Power
Chapter 133 - 131: Fierce Ghost
CHAPTER 133: CHAPTER 131: FIERCE GHOST
The sky was about to lighten when Nanny Lv got up and dressed, ready to attend to Madam Su for her grooming.
Nanny Lv walked to Madam Su’s bedroom door in a few steps and gently knocked: "Madam, it’s time to get up."
There was no response from inside.
Nanny Lv knocked harder and raised her voice: "Madam, are you awake?"
The room remained silent, and Nanny Lv reached out to try the door, but it wouldn’t open; Madam Su had bolted it from the inside after she left last night.
Left with no choice, Nanny Lv called out more forcefully, but Madam Su still didn’t respond. At this point, Nanny Lv sensed something was amiss and hurriedly instructed: "Quick... bring someone to open the door, the Madam sleeps lightly and shouldn’t be this hard to wake, something must be wrong."
The Su family’s servants were startled by Nanny Lv’s demeanor and hurriedly called a few family members over.
With a loud "bang," the door was forced open, and Nanny Lv pushed aside those around her, rushing into the room first. As soon as she entered, she saw a figure hanging with both feet off the ground in front of the bed.
Madam Su’s hair was disheveled, her face was bluish-purple, her lips slightly parted with her tongue stuck there, appearing utterly terrifying.
"Ah..."
"Madam..."
Screams echoed.
Nanny Lv staggered back two steps, but quickly recalled something and hastily approached Madam Su’s body.
Nanny Lv’s hand just grasped a corner of Madam Su’s dress.
"Stop."
A loud voice was heard, and everyone turned to see several individuals dressed as government officials standing there.
Nanny Lv hadn’t expected to see people from the government office in an inn by the roadside.
Without further ado, the person ordered others around him: "Take her down."
Then he looked at Nanny Lv and the others: "Everyone else in the room, move to the courtyard and wait for the Prefecture’s people to come for questioning."
Appearing terrified, Nanny Lv refused to leave, saying: "I must serve the Madam, I need to stay."
The officials came forward, pushing, forcing Nanny Lv out of the room as she cried out. Just as she was about to step out of the doorway, she saw the officials shake their heads and silently mouthed two words: "Dead."
Nanny Lv exhaled in relief, her clothes soaked with cold sweat, trembling as she stood in the courtyard, surrounded by the murmurs of the servants.
"Mama, what do we do? Madam, how could she do this?"
Nanny Lv didn’t respond until the forensic doctor took Madam Su’s body away; only then did she approach and grasped the official’s arm: "Lord, our Madam—"
"Dead." The official looked sternly at Nanny Lv’s hand.
Nanny Lv quickly let go of her fingers, at a complete loss.
"I’m asking you," the official said, "last night, did your Madam say anything?"
Nanny Lv shook her head: "Yesterday, after I attended to her grooming, Madam instructed me to get up early today, how could she... We were supposed to go to Zhenzhou."
The official frowned: "What are you going to Zhenzhou for?"
Nanny Lv had anticipated such questioning, though it should have been in the government office instead of an inn, but this was just a minor deviation.
Nanny Lv hesitated.
"Did you hear me? What are you going to Zhenzhou for?"
Finally, Nanny Lv spoke reluctantly: "To... to stop the Master... Master he..."
The words cut off abruptly, and Nanny Lv instinctively shut her mouth, displaying a regretful expression, aware she had misspoken.
The official lost patience with her stuttering words and waved his hand: "Take everyone to the county government for questioning."
In the county government office, taken aback by the officials beside her, Nanny Lv spoke the truth: "The Master had complained against the Madam with the government office, so the Madam was rushing to get to Zhenzhou.
Last night, Madam was in poor spirits, repeatedly lamenting that the Master shouldn’t have done this, that it was pushing her towards death.
I noticed the Madam was different, and thought of staying in the room, but the Madam wouldn’t allow it, I had to leave, Lord, did my Madam really act impulsively just because..."
The words "hanging herself" couldn’t escape Nanny Lv’s lips, but everyone knew what she meant.
The clerk said: "We will have to await the autopsy results."
In the government office for an entire day, Nanny Lv and the Su family’s servants left only after the case was unclear; they could only stay in the county until then.
Madam Su was dead, and all accompanying servants of the Su Family were frightened, only settling down to sleep late into the night.
Assured that those around her were asleep, Nanny Lv got up and stealthily opened the door.
As previously agreed, with everything going smoothly here, Nanny Lv was to send word to Lin Xu’s men; the sudden appearance of several officials at the inn had brought some change. Lin Xu’s men were surely waiting impatiently, and she also wanted confirmation from that person that Madam Su was strangled and hanged on the beam.
As long as they met and exchanged updates, everything would be peaceful.
Nanny Lv walked out of the courtyard, looking around, certain that Lin Xu’s person would follow her, seeing her come out and approach her for a conversation.
After waiting for a while, Nanny Lv suddenly noticed a figure standing in an alley not far away.
The person wore a cloak, their face unclear, but was watching her, then turned and walked swiftly deeper into the alley.
Nanny Lv didn’t hesitate and hurried forward.
The person, intentionally leading the way, was walking not too fast. Nanny Lv watched as he entered a courtyard, and Nanny Lv could now confirm he was sent by Lin Xu.
They both entered the main house one after the other; as Nanny Lv stepped inside, she didn’t forget to turn around and close the door, at which point the light in the room brightened.
Nanny Lv exhaled in relief and was about to speak: "You..."
After saying one word, Nanny Lv’s eyes widened; the scene in the room made her hairs stand on end. In the center of the room sat a person on a chair.
She wore a ginger-yellow dress, her hair loose, and her blood-red eyes stared intently at her—that was Madam Su.
"It’s you," Madam Su shrieked, "you’re the one who wants to harm me."
Nanny Lv instinctively shook her head: "No... no... It’s not me, Madam. It wasn’t the servant..." She couldn’t discern whether Madam Su was human or a ghost.
The freezing cold in the room caused Nanny Lv’s teeth to chatter: "It wasn’t me, don’t come after me."
"Then who?" Madam Su demanded harshly, "Who?"
Overwhelmed by terror, Nanny Lv turned to try to open the door to escape, but no matter how hard she tried, the door wouldn’t budge.
Madam Su stood and took steps closer to Nanny Lv.
"It’s not me," Nanny Lv finally broke down, kneeling on the floor and shouting, "Madam, the servant had no choice, it was the Master who made me do this, it was the Master who saw things couldn’t be contained, that came up with this idea, to let Madam bear all the guilt.
At that time, it would be said the connection with those people was the Madam’s."
Madam Su’s eyes widened, a look of disbelief on her face: "Is it my brother?"
"No... you’re lying, it’s impossible..." Madam Su refused to believe it.
Nanny Lv said: "It’s true, the Master had you alter the accounts simply for this day, if you had no guilt, why change the accounts? Now the accounts are changed, and the Master has gone to the government office, you must die."
Madam Su stumbled, collapsing to the ground.
It was only then that Nanny Lv realized that things might not be what she thought, the Madam before her might not be a "fierce ghost."
Nanny Lv contemplated, once more trying to open the door, and this time it easily opened. Standing outside were several people, calmly watching them.
