Chapter 356 - 183 Warm Atmosphere
CHAPTER 356: CHAPTER 183 WARM ATMOSPHERE
Chen Yanfei had no ill intentions.
On one hand, she wanted to teach Han Lie a lesson and, at the same time, play a joke on Ding Xiang, teasing this introverted and shy sister.
On the other hand, she hoped Ding Xiang would see Han Lie’s true nature and wisely choose to back off.
Everyone has their own desires, and Chen knew well what to fight for and what to let go of. Of course, the decision had only recently been made.
She had to admit that the discussions about "God Lie" on the school forum had greatly influenced her change of heart.
When Han Lie was just the tough guy, they were good friends who could chat well, and occasionally, some subtle feelings of affection would arise. But she would control the distance and pace, leaving more possibilities to time.
A smart girl must know how to "wait and see." Waiting is waiting, and seeing is seeing – the former requires patience, and the latter wisdom.
However, Han Lie turned into "God Lie" too quickly. Before she had seen enough, she had no choice but to take to the field again, out of sheer necessity. Waiting any longer would only increase the pressure.
Pan Ge, Xi Luting, Yu Yun, Ding Xiang... who would be next?
Chen Yanfei didn’t have to be with Han Lie, but she was extremely unwilling to give up.
She had to at least try, right? Running away without a fight wasn’t her style.
...
"How are we going to get there?"
Once they had decided to go to the International Finance Center, Han Lie became somewhat impatient.
Chen Yanfei instinctively looked around to gauge how far they might have to walk to catch a taxi.
The three of them were in the middle of the pedestrian street, and neither direction offered a short walk. However, Chen Yanfei glanced around and saw the East Nanjing Road subway station right across, 30 meters away.
She asked Han Lie instinctively, "Can we get there by subway?"
Something stirred excitedly in Brother Lie’s heart. The subway, huh!
On weekends, Line 2 could be so crowded it might leave women pregnant and men sterile. Chen Yanfei might not understand, but could Han Lie be clueless?
This sly dog was looking forward to it, but he feigned difficulty and furrowed his brow.
"We can get there by subway, sure. We go down and take Line 2 for one stop, and the exit is right at the International Finance Center’s gate..."
"That’s great! I’ve never taken the subway before!" Ding Xiang spoke without hesitation, a bit excitedly.
Brother Lie continued to act reluctantly, gesturing with the dozen or so shopping bags in his hands, "Are you crazy? Carrying all this stuff to squeeze onto the subway?"
Chen Yanfei clapped her hands with a smack, "You take care of it!"
"No, no, no! How am I supposed to handle that?" Han Lie immediately refused, an expression of distressed urgency on his face, as if she were making life difficult for him.
"Besides, I’ve heard that Line 2 on weekends can be incredibly crowded. Why should we put ourselves through that?"
The more reluctant the sly dog acted, the more amused Chen Yanfei became, giggling flirtatiously, "But you are the God Lie we both admire! Such a little thing should be a breeze for you! You can do it! Go for it!"
She smiled broadly, clutching her small fists and waving them energetically, radiating with vitality and brilliance.
Ding Xiang, caught up in her enthusiasm, pleaded with Han Lie coyly, "I really want to experience the subway... Please, pretty please, is that okay?"
PHEW! When it came to coquettish wheedling, Ding Xiang was a hundred times cuter than Yin Qin. You could tell she was doing it on purpose, but because of her naive and adorable ways, you could only help but grin foolishly.
Brother Lie didn’t grin foolishly, though. He played out the whole act.
"Ah, you two are hopeless..." With a sigh and a shake of his head, his tone softened, and a doting affection immediately emerged.
"Come on then, follow me!"
Han Lie didn’t head to the subway station; instead, he walked across the street toward the Cartier boutique.
Once inside, he dumped their shopping bags near the entrance and boldly told the sales assistant, "Pick out a couple’s bracelet or a pair of rings for these two."
"Huh?" Chen Yanfei and Ding Xiang were bewildered.
Han Lie persuasively insisted with a hint of impatience, "Hurry up, I’ll pay for it, then have them deliver your stuff to the school."
"Is that even possible?" Both understood what Han Lie meant, and their eyes lit up in an instant.
Ding Xiang actually didn’t lack Cartier jewelry, having received pieces from her mother and friends, but being quite young, she wasn’t a Cartier VIP yet. That’s why she thought Han Lie was incredibly clever.
Chen Yanfei, on the other hand, rarely dealt with jewelry. During her high school years, she was always a plain Jane, never engaging in the one-upmanship among girls, so she didn’t own any luxury items. But as a girl, how could she not like those shiny jewelry pieces? It was just that she could control her desires.
"We’ll pay for it ourselves." Chen Yanfei was very determined, and Ding Xiang nodded in agreement, "Yeah, Brother Lie, we have money."
Such nice girls! However, since Han Lie had brought things this far, there was no way he’d let them escape.
Without agreeing or disagreeing, he just smiled and urged, "Whatever you say, just go pick something quickly!"
So the two of them, arm in arm, chattered and wandered about... err, for a whole hour and five minutes.
Poor Han Lie, sitting there waiting, had almost turned silly from the wait. And how did it end?
Han Lie slapped his card on the counter, forcibly making a decision among all the items they’d tried on.
"We’ll take that LOVE ring! Please ring it up!"
The two girls, feeling very embarrassed, panicked.
"No, no, let me do it!"
"Brother Lie, I really do have the money..."
Han Lie ignored their protests and gave his cellphone number to the cashier, "Charge it."
Only when the sales associate began the transaction did he turn to glare at them, cajoling and intimidating at once.
