Chapter 67 -: 67, Silas Graves
CHAPTER 67: CHAPTER: 67, SILAS GRAVES
Outside the Adventurer Guild, Shadow walked through the market but didn’t buy anything. He went straight to a narrow alleyway and after making sure nobody was near enough to see him, he uttered some words,
"Transform."
With that, the mask he was wearing deformed into a liquid state and started to take a new shape on his forehead. His clothes also began to dissolve and merged with the liquidated mask and then turned into a pure black headband on his forehead.
After the mask was gone, a handsome face of a young man was revealed with black hair and eyes like the color of pure darkness itself. His pale skin looked like that of a porcelain doll and his face was as if carved out of stone, cold and ruthless with no sign of emotions.
The man looked at his surroundings and again making sure nobody had witnessed his transformation, he walked back to the market area.
Within the market, he wandered around from shop to shop. He purchased some fruits and vegetables and some meat. After picking up his groceries, he then left.
Behind him, one of the new shop owners asked the man beside him, "Hey, who is that young lad? Never saw him before."
"Oh, you must be new here, so you don’t know him. He is Silas, the son of the fallen Graves noble family from the border town. A tragedy took the lives of the entire family seven years ago, the boy is now the only one remaining of that bloodline." The old man beside him replied.
"You mean the town at the top of the backbone? I heard that the town is now managed by the Temple. So how did that family meet its downfall?" The man asked again.
"The Graves were a very kind and generous family who showed kindness to everyone and had deep hatred for evil worshippers. Because of that, they were ruthless if anyone was proven to be an evil worshipper. But even then, they would investigate thoroughly to make sure the person was actually an evil worshipper, making sure no innocent was wronged.
"Alas! Because of their righteousness, they had made many enemies throughout the years. Then one day, they were ambushed by a big group of evil worshippers. Everyone died, but he survived as he was hidden away by Mrs. Graves before her death." The old man added.
"So, why are those evil worshippers not back, like to kill him and wipe the last bloodline of the Graves family? Nobody would be stupid enough to leave a variable or a chance that he might want revenge."
"It would’ve been like that only if the boy had the ability to take revenge."
"You mean?"
"The boy has been examined to have no potential in being a transcendent. He is barely a level 10 with a D-rank Artificer Class. The evil worshipers wouldn’t risk being exposed to eliminate someone who is no threat to them."
"I see..." The shop owner nodded in understanding. "Pitiful child, his family was annihilated and he can’t even strive for revenge..."
Silas Graves ignored the nearby whispers of everyone in the market and left Whiteburn City after purchasing enough rations for the week. The guild request deadline is in two weeks, enough for him to rest for a week and then again begin with the hunt.
Getting out of the city gate, Silas noticed many travelers coming up from the teleporter connected to the lands. There were merchants, explorers and adventurers from other cities with some people who wanted to go to the neighboring nations for either immigration or exploration.
He then walked ahead, heading to the monstrous backbone path towards the upper section. He walked through the three kilometer wide backbone path. After walking for about an hour, he saw a tall circular disk built with stone that covered the backbone, blocking any force that might try to enter the Empire sneakily.
Anyone, no matter how strong the person might be, would have to enter the empire in the normal way everyone else enters. Even the royal families from other nations have to enter through proper procedure.
Even people who might come with malicious intentions would have to come through these gates across the borders of the Empire.
Why can’t they just enter through the large forest below the remains of the being? Because the monsters below the bone plains, even the weakest would be level 200 or higher. And even if they enter somehow, they would quickly be captured and imprisoned.
Why? Simple, people who aren’t given permissions would be detected by the royal detector as invaders and would be taken actions against.
Silas Graves walked towards the barrier and entered the backbone town connected to it. This was the place Silas Graves was born and lived most of his childhood, until the tragedy struck.
As Silas slowly walked towards a certain resident in the town, also considered the second biggest house his family has left for him, and the only place he can live.
Some of his neighbors who were going out noticed him. They pointed at him and talked about him that were circulating about him after he was found to have no talent to become a transcendent.
Silas ignored them and went inside the residence. After locking the door behind him, Silas placed the grocery bag on the table and headed to his room.
His room was on the second floor, so he climbed the stairs and headed upstairs. His room was tidy with very little valuable decorations that were once here at some time. There was one bed and one big study table that Silas brought with the remaining money he had hidden from the scavengers.
He then took out some old wrinkled papers from a book that had many extricate and deeply drawn patterns with each having its own separate page and descriptions on which pattern can do what. It looked somewhat similar to a guide book.
After a long silence of staring at the patterns, a voice entered his mind, "So, aren’t you gonna clear out the rumors?"
Silas should’ve been panicked, but he wasn’t. He calmly looked at the patterns and said in an indifferent tone,
"Why should I? I am not the real Silas."
