CHAPTER 106: FIREARM COMBAT COURSE

With nothing else to do for the day, Adam thought he might as well go and check out this combat class and learn some tactical techniques to improve himself, as it’s better to be prepared for an extreme scenario than ignore it, thinking that it would never happen.

Adam has experienced regression, so a hostile situation where people start blazing guns and start shooting at others is much more likely to happen.

Adam walks past Julia’s room again and finds it quiet. ’Probably decided to lock herself in, not wanting to interact with me,’ Adam thinks and smirks.

But Adam doesn’t care; the day of her reckoning is coming. Or it might just turn out to be the best thing possible that can happen to her. Soon, she won’t be able to keep Adam away from herself.

She will be forced to go out of her way to engage with him, and when that happens, she will never be able to go back.

Adam just needs to be a little more patient, and the day he has been dreaming of for ages is closer than ever.

He leaves his house once again, gets in his car, and drives out.

An hour later, Adam arrives before the combat class. He looks around and sees no one, only a few old cars and small trucks. This is understandable as not many people want to learn how to fight with a gun.

The only people who actually want to learn how to fight with guns are paranoid people who think everyone is out to get for them, military obsessed people who don’t actually want to join the military, and Adam, a regressor who wants to make sure that he will never allow himself to be in situations that are outside his control.

And even if it means doing something that people would find weird, like learning gun combat training.

He parks his car outside the facility and heads in. Inside, he finds a middle-aged, fat woman bored out of her mind, scrolling through her phone.

But as soon as she noticed Adam’s arrival, she perked up and put her phone away. "Welcome!" she greets Adam, looking at him with fanatic eyes.

Adam gets creeped out feeling her gaze. It’s not one of admiration that he gets all the time from the ladies because of his good looks; her stare feels predatory. Adam already starts regretting coming here.

’I shouldn’t have trusted those reviews,’ Adam thinks, takes a deep sigh, and decides to go through this before he starts judging.

"I saw an ad about the firearm combat training," Adam inquires.

"You are in the right place, kid. Here, sign this, and you are ready to join. Don’t worry about the fees because trust me, it’s worth it. One’s life is worth way more than a few thousand dollars," the woman says.

The more she speaks, the more Adam thinks this is a scam.

"Before I make any commitment, I want a test run," Adam says, seeing the price on the form. If he is going to spend thousands of dollars learning how to fuck people up with a gun, he needs to know if it’s legit or not.

"Sure, no problem. Why don’t you head in? The instructor will guide you through everything." She says with a smile on her face.

Adam nods and walks through the curtain.

As soon as he walks past the curtain, he sees a middle-aged man who looks very rough. Blad, clearly on TRT, wrinkled face, and wearing military-like clothing, a white t-shirt, and cameo pants.

The man lifts his head up and looks at Adam. "What do you want?" He asks. His voice sounds deep and rough, probably due to smoking and drinking for years.

"I am here for the firearm combat training," Adam says. Hearing his words surprises the man. He once again gives Adam a look, his eyes checking out Adam from head to toe.

His sharp, experienced eyes immediately notice the strong frame Adam is hiding underneath his clothes.

"Do you go to the gym?" the man asks. "I train in MMA," Adam answers.

The man nods his head. "Why do you want to learn firearm combat?" He then asks.

"Well, I recently got a gun, so I thought, if I have to use it, I’d better learn how to use it in the most efficient and effective way possible," Adam answers.

The man nods his head again.

"Do you have any experience using firearms?" the man asks. "Not much, but my aim’s amazing," Adam says, smiling.

The man frowns, thinking Adam’s bragging, but he doesn’t call Adam out on it yet. He is a practical man, so he would rather see before he judges.

"Follow me," the man says and takes Adam to the gun range.

Unlike the one in the gun store, this one is out in the open with the targets placed very far away.

"Here, take this," the man says and hands over a compact handgun to Adam. "See those balloons over there, pop at least one, and you are in," the man says.

"I thought you could just pay up front and get in," Adam says as he is surprised hearing that he has to fulfill a condition to get in.

"Don’t bother listening to my wife outside. She is too obsessed with money; I am not. This is my training course. I set the rules," the man says.

"Okay..." Adam says, aims the gun towards the target, lines the target with his eyes, and then shoots.

The target is very far away, but Adam still nails it, popping the balloon in his first try. This surprises the old man because even some experienced guys struggle to pop the balloon, especially with a handgun.

The man actually gave Adam the handgun, thinking that he would fail, and when Adam begs him to teach him, only then would he agree, but he didn’t expect Adam to actually succeed in his very first try.

’How lucky is this kid?’ the man thinks. ’Well, I can’t back out now that I have given my word,’ he thinks, and is about to ask for his gun back when he sees Adam move his hand and aim for the next balloon. He sees Adam pull the trigger and pop another balloon.

This time, he is shocked. ’Was it not a fluke?’ he thinks as he watches Adam aim at another balloon, shoot, and pop it. He does it over and over again, popping all ten balloons.

The man has never seen anyone with such extreme accuracy as Adam.

"Okay, you have shown enough. We can start today if you are ready," the man says. He is not going to beat around the bush now that he has seen that Adam’s not lying. Like he said, he really does have good aim, so it would be a waste for someone like Adam not to learn firearm combat.

Adam smiles and hands the handgun back to the man.

"My name’s Harry Jones. You will call me Instructor Jones. This will only be a seven-day class; you can come any time you want. If you cannot learn everything in seven days, you will pay extra for more classes," He says and begins walking.

’Then what was all that talk about not being obsessed with money?’ Adam thinks but doesn’t voice it out loud. Paying over a thousand dollars just for seven classes is definitely a scam, but since firearm combat training is not something most of the world’s population wants to learn, these instructors clearly hike up the price a lot because the people who want to learn it will learn it, no matter the cost.

Adam’s the same.

He follows Harry to another section of the land. Adam is surprised by how big this facility really is. As he arrives at the other side of the facility, he sees a complete obstacle course, multiple walls that make a maze, and brick houses simulating an active urban warfield.

Adam is surprised by everything that’s in the facility, which makes him realize why the fees are so much. With bullets flying, these things will clearly get damaged.

What surprises Adam even more is that there are actually quite a lot of people here. From the outside, this place looked barren, but from inside, it’s full of people going through the courses.

As he really thinks about it, it does make sense. This city is home to over 35 million people, and among them, a few hundred will clearly have weird hobbies.

Harry takes Adam to the storage room and hands over some gears to him. "Put this on, it will simulate the weight and balance of what an average soldier has on himself in a war zone," he says, handing over a heavy-looking Kevlar armor.

Adam puts it on but doesn’t feel anything. He is too strong for this. Seeing that Adam’s showing no discomfort, Harry gives him some fake guns that emulate the exact weight of real guns, but even with the added weight, Adam doesn’t feel much.

Harry thought Adam would start struggling, but he thought wrong. He then hands over some metal plates, which Adam shoves into his armor, adding more heft to his body, but again, nothing. Adam’s strength is too much.

"You seem fine, but let’s see if you can survive the brutal simulated terrain of an active Warzone," Harry says and brings Adam before the very gruesome-looking obstacle course.

"This looks fun," Adam says, looking at all the tall walls, rope climbs, nets, wooden logs, and barbed wire all over the place.

"Your goal is to complete the obstacle course within five minutes; if you can’t, you fail. You won’t be taught anything else before you complete this course," Harry says with a wicked smile on his face.

He clearly wants to push Adam and see if he breaks or not.
