Chapter 221: An Unexpected Ally

I couldn’t believe what I was hearing.

Lilith Doomspire — the daughter of the Demon King of the Doomspire Empire — stood before me under the cloak of night, delivering a revelation that shattered my expectations: she came to offer an alliance to defeat her own father.

Both Envi, Runa, and I stood frozen in disbelief. The air around us grew colder, sharp as ice against my skin. A chill of dread crawled down my spine, not just from her presence, but from the gravity of what she had said.

She was serious. Deadly serious.

But I couldn’t trust her just yet. Not without proof. I summoned her status window once more — the last time I tried, some of her information had been mysteriously hidden.

What I saw this time stunned me.

Name: Lilith Doomspire

Title: Overlord Rank 4th, The Dimensional Sovereign, ###ERROR###

Level: 115 (Weakened)

Status: Temporary Sanity

In my thoughts, I asked Envi, “She’s really the Demon King’s daughter. Look at her surname.”

“You’re right, Nao… And there’s no mistake — she truly possesses spatial magic. That title proves it. We don’t even know the limits of her powers. She’s dangerously powerful. But why… why come to you? Why ask for an alliance?” Envi’s voice was filled with confusion.

“I don’t know,” I answered, “but that new status… ‘Temporary Sanity’ — that has to be the key. Let’s hear her out first.”

Envi reluctantly agreed. I slowly sheathed my katana and signaled Runa to return to her human form.

“Lilith, is it…? Why would you help me? Just days ago, you unleashed chaos upon the kingdoms of Braveheart and Gildoria by opening portals for the demons to invade. Countless lives were lost because of you. You even helped the other Overlords escape.”

I stared at her coldly.

She returned my gaze — fierce, unwavering. But then, slowly, her expression softened.

“I had no choice,” she said quietly. “I… I can’t fully control myself.”

She turned away and, with a deliberate motion, revealed the back of her neck.

Under the moonlight, her deep violet skin shimmered with an eerie beauty. Even Envi, in my mind, gasped in awe.

“Nao… she’s a demon, but damn, she’s stunning! Look at her skin, her sharp features, and that flowing dark-purple hair!”

“Focus, you cursed system! She’s still our enemy… for now,” I snapped back.

And then I saw it — a glowing red sigil etched into her neck. A magic circle pulsing with malevolent energy.

Lilith’s voice was low but clear, “This… is the [Seal of Dominance]. It’s a curse placed upon high-ranking demons — Overlords and even the Demon King himself — by the Outer God. Since the Great War against the gods, humans, and the Celestial Races a thousand years ago… we’ve all been under its control.”

Her words struck us like thunder.

She continued, her expression flat, but her voice heavy with buried emotion. “This seal granted us immense power: strength beyond limits, overflowing mana, and the ability to evolve our Dark Magic into corrupted, forbidden sorcery. That’s why you’ve seen such horrific variants of it… especially from the Demon Warlords and Overlords.”

“But…” Her voice darkened. “It came at a cost. The seal slowly eats into our minds, warping our souls… until we’re no longer ourselves. The madness consumes us, turning us into puppets obsessed only with destruction and power.”

Lilith’s eyes stared far into the night.

“That Outer God… turned my kind into its weapons. I’ve tried countless times to awaken the others — to remind them who they were. Even my father. But it’s hopeless. Their minds are long gone. They’re not demons anymore… They’re annihilation incarnate. My father… has become nothing more than a vassal of that Outer God who nearly destroyed this world once before.”

“I’ve fought this seal for centuries,” she whispered. “Most of the time I lose… and when I do, I become the very monster I hate. But somehow… after resisting for so long… I’ve learned to claw back a fragment of my sanity — just ten minutes each day.”

Her gaze locked onto mine.

“That’s why I came to you, Child of Fate. In the only sliver of clarity I have left.”

None of us could speak. Even Envi and Runa were silent, overwhelmed by the truth laid bare.

I finally broke the silence.

“…I had no idea. This is beyond anything I imagined.”

“But tell me this, Lilith. Why betray your own kind? Why your own father?”

Lilith’s hand rose to her chest. Her face — once proud and imposing — now bore a sorrowful shadow.

“My father has not only brought ruin to humans in Eldaris… and the Special Races in Celestian… but also to our own kin in Doomspire. If he awakens again… this world will fall.”

She looked at me with burning resolve. “If you ask me for a reason, then know this: I will atone for the sins of my kind… and the sins of my bloodline… by any means necessary. Even if I must destroy them all myself.”

Her voice didn’t waver. Not even once. She had made this decision long ago.

I smiled faintly and said, “I see… Your conviction is real. But Lilith, you must understand — there’s no telling when your sanity might break again. You could turn on me in an instant.”

“I need insurance,” I added carefully. “Something that guarantees you won’t become a threat.”

Without hesitation, she nodded.

“If I lose control… and turn on you… then you have my permission to kill me. I’ll even give you my weakness.”

“…!!”All three of us — myself, Envi, and Runa — were shocked. She was deadly serious.

Lilith stepped closer, extending her hand. “Bring out the Akashic Record. I know you have it… ever since you defeated Xir.”

My heart skipped a beat. How did she know that?

Slowly, I summoned the [Akashic Record]. Envi tried to stop me, but I reassured him with a glance.

I handed the book to Lilith. She opened it with practiced hands and began chanting a spell — one that unlocked a hidden page, glowing with ancient magic.

“The Akashic Record is a pseudo-grimoire I created over millennia. It contains every spell, every curse… every weakness of the Demon Warlords and Overlords. Including my own. Only I can access these pages. But now… I give them to you.”

She handed it back.

“…These are your weaknesses?” I asked, stunned as I read the page.

Not just hers — but also those of the Overlords.

This knowledge… this moment… could change the entire tide of the war.

Envi and Runa stood in stunned silence. None of us spoke — but the truth had already settled in our hearts.

We chose to believe in Lilith.

“…Very well, Lilith,” I said quietly but firmly. “What you’ve shared… is beyond valuable. You’re truly serious about this.”

She nodded — a quiet, resolute affirmation of her conviction.

I exhaled softly, a faint smile tugging at the corner of my lips.”Actually… I had a feeling. Back during that battle… I sensed someone was helping me from the shadows. Was it you?”

Lilith nodded again. “It was. I allowed Xir to steal the Akashic Record from me. I used his greed — his hunger to rise as an Overlord — to set a plan into motion. I could’ve taken it back any time… but then you defeated him.”

She paused. “That’s when I realized… you might be the one. The only one I could fight beside. So I let you keep the Akashic Record.”

I stared at her, trying to take it all in. She’d been behind more than I imagined.

“I also left the portal open in Braveheart,” she added. “So you could reach the battlefield in time… and beat Nosef and Lucius.”

Everything began to make sense. She had been helping me, all along.

“My doubts are gone now, Lilith,” I said. “I believe you.”

There was a glimmer of something in her eyes — like the first hint of sunrise breaking through eternal night.

“You can count on me,” she whispered.

I nodded. “Truth is… I’ve been holding on to hope for you… for longer than you know.”

She blinked, confused. “But… we only met in battle. How could you…?”

I shook my head.

“No. I knew of you long before that. Vorx… In her final moments, she told me about you. She said you were the only one she ever considered a friend within the demon army. She asked me to give you her farewell.”

Lilith’s eyes widened. Slowly, her head bowed, her fists clenched.

Pain twisted her expression.

“…Vorx,” she murmured. “So… in the end, you returned to your senses. You were… the only one who stood beside me, back then. When I heard of your death, I was shattered. But the one I cursed most… was myself. I couldn’t save you. I couldn’t break the chains.”

Her voice trembled, heavy with guilt.

She turned her gaze to the sky — and a tear slid down her cheek.

“But I’m relieved. That it was you, Child of Fate, who ended her suffering. And that she still remembered me… That she spoke of me…”

Lilith closed her eyes. “Thank you, Vorx. Even in death, you’ve given me the strength to go on.”

In that moment, I saw past the demonic form — past the cursed blood and dark magic. There was something deeply human in Lilith. A soul that could mourn. A heart that could break.

“Nao,” Envi said in my mind, “She’s just like Vorx. She feels. She grieves. She’s more human than demon, in the ways that matter.”

Lilith looked back at me, her voice quiet. “Child of Fate… what were her final moments like?”

I took a breath. “She smiled. And walked away, hand in hand with her older brother, Zorx into the ‘real’ freedom.”

“…I see.” Her face remained calm — but a small smile touched her lips. A bittersweet one. A human one.

I turned to Envi and Runa. “My decision is made.”

They both nodded without hesitation. They understood.

I stepped forward, facing Lilith.

“Lilith… I’ve always intended to defeat the Demon King. And I made a promise to Vorx… that I’d help make this world better. So yes. I’ll fight beside you. We’ll bring him down — together.”

Lilith’s eyes widened slightly. Then — she smiled.

“Thank you, Child of Fate… I’m in your hands.”

And in that moment, her smile was radiant. Not cruel, not twisted… but sincere. Hopeful.

Beautiful.

A smile I never imagined I would see from a demon.

Maybe… just maybe…Demons and humans can walk the same path.
