Reincarnated As A Lion In Another World
Chapter 340: Fortune Stability
CHAPTER 340: CHAPTER 340: FORTUNE STABILITY
Leonine Heaven.
A man sat at the edge of his continent, staring below at the seemingly endless multicolored void.
His hair was black and long, reaching the center of his back. His nose was straight and pointed, adding to his good looks.
The eyebrows positioned above his eyes were thin, dark, and long, giving the impression of sharp blades hanging on a wall.
His black eyes were peaceful, reflecting the glow of the environment he was in.
Sitting at the edge of this floating continent, any ordinary person would have been scared out of their wits. The continent was so big but compared to the seemingly endless multicolored void below, it didn’t look big at all.
This place was a nightmare for anyone scared of heights.
But this ’man’ sat there cross-legged, on the ground in silence. He had no fear because he had done this many times before he inherited this continent as his own and had been doing so after he became a Lion King.
He donned the black robes of a king, covering every part of his body, even his crossed legs. Only his head and neck were exposed to the world.
This man was Ma’abu, Wadolius’s father and the current leader of the new Anti-Primordial Coalition.
*Sigh!*
Ma’abu sighed, an air of melancholy surrounded him.
This place gave him a feeling of clarity, it reminded him that the known universe was much bigger than what he could imagine.
Many mortal creatures didn’t even know that a place like Leonine Heaven existed, talk less of the other heavens. He was born here, privileged to be among one of the most dominating races ever.
But, now, he wasn’t feeling so privileged. Occasionally, he would feel that perhaps, it would have been better if he had not been born as a lion, or if he had not been born with the power of time at the very least.
In the past, there were times when he would sit at this same spot to meditate, and other times, to think. There were also times when he had sat down here to talk with someone.
His son, his most promising child, Wadolius, had sat here with him on many occasions. They had talked, mostly about the future.
Ma’abu had told Wadolius that a day would come when he would be king. He had been stern and unemotional most times when he talked with his son. He wasn’t a psychopath, he had emotions too, just heavily suppressed over the years.
He wasn’t the type to get attached to anyone, not even his children, but Wadolius had been one of the best he ever had.
As he reminisced about the discussions he had with Wadolius, he sighed once more, knowing that he would never see his son again.
His smooth black hair shifted slightly to reveal his pale brown ears which twitched slightly. Someone was coming, he could hear it.
Ma’abu remained still as a statue, waiting for his guests.
Soon, the hum of a low-riding hover platform was heard. Two circular hover platforms approached from a distance, each having a humanoid on it.
The vehicles stopped a few meters behind Ma’abu and the riders got down from their transport.
One of the humanoids was Thawne, the slightly chubby fellow who had joined Xu Ying and the others for the expedition in Eridoria.
The other was Thawne’s father, Saul.
The two of them wore luxurious clothing that was fit for royalty.
They moved toward the sitting Ma’abu, acknowledging his presence and the strange time dilation that had begun as soon as they got close.
"Saul," Ma’abu opened his mouth to speak, "Do you have something important to say to me?"
Saul shook his head with a wet smile, "Not even a welcome greeting. At least, we are friends from the same alliance, don’t you..."
"No, we were not," Ma’abu cut Saul off, "We are not friends, we were never friends. We were simply allies who came together to protect our self-interest.
Don’t sugar coat it,"
Thawne looked at his father to see that Saul did not really have a change of expression. It seems he was used to Ma’abu talking like this.
Always direct, harsh, and with an intent in mind.
"Even though you don’t act like it, I know you’re upset about Wadolius." Saul said, "I would be upset if anything happened to Thawne."
Thawne who stood by the side wondered what his father was trying to do. Couldn’t he see that Ma’abu wasn’t in the mood for emotional talks?
Saul was about to continue but Ma’abu raised his hand, causing Saul to subconsciously shut up.
Ma’abu slowly placed his hands on the ground, using them to support himself as he stood up from his cross-legged position.
His black robe cascaded to the ground, the edges sweeping gently against the rough surface of the earth.
Saul and Ma’abu looked at each other, both having different expressions on their faces.
Ma’abu looked calm but his eyes were disturbingly empty, like someone who was suppressing way too much within.
"Ma’abu..." Saul started.
"Why have you come here?" Ma’abu asked.
Saul signed, trying to have a deep conversation with Ma’abu was almost impossible.
"Both of us are coming from the Strings Of Fate Coalition meeting. All the fortune lions there have joined forces to sense the general fortune of the lion civilization.
Ma’abu, it is no longer stable. I was there and I could feel it. The lion civilization is no longer guaranteed good fortune.
We are trying our best to influence the trajectory at a cosmic scale but it’s not easy."
Saul’s words were indeed worrying as they caused Ma’abu to frown. But the frown was wiped away instantly and he returned to his indifferent facial expression.
"And so?"
Saul raised his eyebrow, "So? You know what this means right?"
Ma’abu nodded, "Naturally, I expected this. It simply means we can’t depend on our luck anymore, nothing much to it."
"Not just that Ma’abu, if we don’t have to depend on luck alone, that would be fine. But the fact that it’s unstable means that our fortune could turn to misfortune at any moment." Saul said, frowning and displeased. To him, it seemed that Ma’abu was not taking the matter as seriously as he was supposed to.
"I know what you’re trying to imply Saul, and I know the gravity of the situation. But it was still expected," Ma’abu said as he walked past them.
His steps were measured and heavy, his head was raised high and his shoulders were firm. He looked like he was ready to face the whole universe.
"You expected it because you are the one who caused it," Saul barked. The power of misfortune in the surrounding seemed to rise slightly. "The moment you claimed to go against the Primordial Lion, you started the Instability.
You are the cause,"
Thawne sealed his saliva hard as he followed them. It would be bad if these two started fighting and he was present here.
"Yes," Ma’abu nodded, "I was the cause, but that’s where it ends. It would have happened either way.
The presence of the Primordial Lion would have caused our whole civilization to spiral into waves of bad luck and tragedy. It needed a stabilizer, something to balance the equation.
I am that stabilizer. I and the Anti-Primordial Coalition are the reason why our fortune hasn’t gone completely negative.
You all should be thanking me." Ma’abu’s voice was without stammers or stutters. He meant what he said and everything he said had a bit of truth in it.
Saul knew he was somewhat right. No fortune lion really knew if the situation would have been better or worse if Ma’abu had not done what he did.
Even now, they couldn’t even do anything to him as they were afraid that his absence might cause the fortune to go haywire.
What if the Primordial Lion was really a threat to the whole civilization, wouldn’t it be better to have someone like Ma’abu around?
But what if he wasn’t? Ma’abu wouldn’t care and would still attempt to eliminate the Primordial Lion either way.
"Did you come here to tell me what I already know, or did you come here to join my cause?" Ma’abu stopped his footsteps and asked.
Saul shook his head, "Actually, they asked me to come here to see what you were doing right now.
Recently, the grand fortune has become more unstable. Something is happening somewhere that is tilting the scales in ways we do not know yet.
We guessed that either you were doing something, or the Primordial Lion was doing something to cause the Fortune Instability."
"Hmm," Ma’abu’s face darkened. His mind worked fast and he instantly understood the implications of what Saul was saying.
The Primordial Lion was not remaining idle, he was not staying still and waiting. Whatever he was doing that was indirectly affecting the fortune of a whole civilization, it was something that could hinder the operations of the Anti-Primordial Coalition.
Sigh.
"Thank you for this information, Saul," Ma’abu said, then continued walking. Within a few seconds, he had increased the time dilation around him and sped toward his pyramid.
Saul and Thawne were left alone, wondering what Ma’abu was planning.
