CHAPTER 34: CHAPTER 34. A FORCED EVOLUTION (2ND PART)
A forced evolution (2nd part)
"Eris, what are you planning to do today?"
I asked while we were having breakfast.
"I would like to go out of the palace for a while."
Since in the past weeks she diligently trained, I thought it was alright for her to get out of the palace for a while as a reward for the hard job.
"Alright, I will make sure you have everything ready so you can depart tomorrow."
"Oh."
"Is there any problem?"
"Honestly, I was planning to go on an adventure with you."
"I see, so this is what you were aiming for...eh?"
I said in a teasing tone, but Eris turned completely red. Since I regained consciousness, she started acting like a teenager even though she is supposed to be older than that, maybe because her actual appearance made her subconsciously act like one. Well, it was not something that bothered me in any way.
"Hahah, you are completely red."
"..."
"Alright, after finishing eating, we will go and prepare all we need to bring."
"Alright!"
As we continued eating, I noticed among the maids Rose was not the only one who was bothered about something. I more or less guessed since one of them was looking at me with eyes full of hatred. After taking a deep breath, I kept eating.
’This is quite childish.’
[You can’t blame them compared to you or Eris; they are indeed children.]
’How annoying.’
I thought as I took the cup of black tea to drink a sip of it, but [Global Wisdom] stopped me from doing so.
[If I’m in you, I will not be drinking that tea.]
’...Why?’
[...]
’Are you not going to answer?’
[I can but you must firstly contain your killing intent before Eris notices it.]
’...’
I looked at my back, and the maid behind me was starting to feel unwell. I looked back at Eris, who had not noticed anything yet.
"Mom, is there any problem?"
Before answering her, I took a deep breath and gathered the strength to make a smile.
"No, I was just thinking about what we would need for our trip."
"Haha."
’Who?’
[I don’t know but most probably one of the maid present here.]
’Why did you notify me? You know I’m not affected by poison.’
[True, but if you had found out by yourself, you would have killed all the maids here present. Am I wrong?]
’It is annoying because I can’t deny that.’
[See, that is why I preferred to warn you about it.]
’Ahh, this is so annoying. For real, how can somebody be so childish?’
[Anyway, are you not happy to go on a trip with your daughter for the first time after years?]
’Absolutely, I can not wait anymore, but these idiots will make today a tough day.’
[Well, I can’t guarantee you it will not be like that.]
’Ahh, let me finish here and move on.’
After finishing eating, I parted momentarily with Eris. The poisoning attempt pissed me off more than I expected. So before doing anything, I went back to my room to rest a little.
Needless to say, there was another assassination attempt while I was drinking my tea rose made for me. Somebody hiding on the ceiling threw a poisoned needle at me.
"You know what, Rose, can you please say to Eris that we will move this afternoon?"
Rose seemed surprised by the sudden change of plans but didn’t complain; instead, she bowed her head and walked out of the room. Once I was alone in the room, I started talking with the assassins.
"Oi, earlier I didn’t do anything because Eris was there; now I’m closing an eye out of consideration, but there will not be a third time. If you try, or I find out who you are, your death will not be painless. Now be gone."
After I had finished speaking, I heard what sounded like agitated footsteps coming from the ceiling. A couple of minutes after they were gone, Eris came to my room.
"Mom, why did you anticipate our trip so suddenly?"
"I was thinking about it, and I reached the conclusion that it would be better for you if we went today instead of tomorrow. We don’t know what may happen tomorrow, so it’s better to go today."
"You are right; I will go and pepper my stuff!"
"Rose, you are coming as well."
"Ah, can I really come along?"
"Naturally, among the maids, you are the one I trust the most, so of course you are coming with us."
"As you wish, Lady Nyx."
"Can you also stop calling me ’Lady’? Just my name will do."
"B-but."
"No ’but,’ just do it. There is no need to be so formal with me."
Rose stayed in silence for a while before making a big smile and saying.
"Alright, Nyx."
That was the first time I saw her being so happy. Since she was my personal maid, I wanted to make friends with her, so all that formality was unnecessary. After around two hours, I walked to the front gate of the palace and waited there for Rose and Eris.
[They are taking their golden time to prepare themselves.]
’You can’t blame them, after all; it’s the first time for both of them going out of this place.’
[But they are really taking too long!]
’True, what are they doing? ...Oh, here they come!’
"Eh... What the fuck is that?"
I shouted, seeing both of them coming with a one-meter-tall backpack on their back.
"We could not decide what to bring, so we just took a little bit of everything."
Rose said with an embarrassed smile on her face.
"Alright, I understand the excitement, but just so you know for the next time, you don’t need to take so much; usually you would find some natural resource, but considering the place we are, you did well on bringing this much."
"Heheh, thank you."
Both of them giggled at the same time.
"Anyway, who is he?"
I asked, noticing a male arachne rith behind the two.
"Oh, him, do you remember that I could not get out of my room when the spiders were being controlled?"
"Yes, I remember that you told me something about it. But what does he have to do with that?"
"Well, he is one of the spider generals who was blocking the door that day. Since then he started working as my bodyguard to atone for his sins."
"Ah, now I understand. Welcome to the team."
I said to the guard, but he didn’t say anything in return and completely ignored me as well.
[He is quite the rude one.]
’Yeah...’
Eris and Rose found his inappropriate behavior irritating; they stared at him with bloodthirsty eyes before they sentenced the little prideful guard to death. I changed the topic.
"Anyway, did you pack all you need?"
"Yes!!"
"Then put all in my shadow and let go!"
After walking all the way through the hallway, we passed through the first door, and at the second one, we had to stop.
"So what is the problem now? Why did you guys stop walking?"
"The thing is we can’t go past this door."
"Hmm, really."
"Tch, she doesn’t even know this much."
"Eh?"
’Look at this fucker.’
[He is really irritating.]
"Mom, sorry for his manner."
Eris said as she bowed her head. The general, seeing this, tried to complain again but got stopped this time.
"I will have a long discussion with Leter. For now, just stay quiet; don’t even think of opening your mouth even once."
Honestly, seeing the general being scolded like this was really enjoyable.
[This reaction is really refreshing.]
’Absolutely.’
I was barely able to hold in the laughs seeing the angry general.
"Raise your dead. You are not supposed to be the one to apologize. But can I ask you a favor?"
"What is it?"
"Can you give me permission to destroy him if he makes me angry again?"
"Eh?"
"There is a skill I still need to use on a living being; I think you already saw it. I am talking about the shadow mist with fangs."
"Ahh."
"Up to this day I just used it on dead bodies as an easy way to eat, but I still need to find out if it works on living things as well."
I stared at the boy straight in the eyes before adding,.
"After all, I never forgive people outside of the family a third time. It is not in my style. If somebody thinks he can be arrogant in front of me despite being so weak, well, I should teach him where he stands in the food chain."
The boy, after I finished talking, turned completely pale.
"Of course! Mom was always like this. Always so heatless whit men."
She replied with a big smile on her face. I took a look at Rose, who was worried about what I said, and smiled at her, ensuring that no matter how many mistakes she made, I would still forgive her. You can say I grew really attached to her after all; she was the only one among the maids who was honest with me.
’So, how should we resolve this problem? You got any idea?’
