CHAPTER 58: CHAPTER 58: KICKED OFF WITH A SINGLE KICK

"This child..." Wu Zhaodi smiled, "Tomorrow your dad is going to buy New Year supplies, you should ask him to bring back a couple!"

"Okay!" Bai Ruyue nodded.

"Auntie, is Uncle going to the town tomorrow?" Bai Ruxue asked.

"Yes! It’s almost New Year, gotta buy some supplies somehow, right? If we don’t go tomorrow, it’ll be too late!" Wu Zhaodi said.

Just as they were talking, Uncle Quanzi’s wife from the East Yard, Sun Hong, walked in.

"Ah, Zhaodi is here too?" Sun Hong saw Wu Zhaodi as soon as she entered the room and greeted her with a smile.

"Yes! Sister Sun Hong, are you here for a visit?" Wu Zhaodi quickly stood up and greeted her.

Sun Hong was thirty-seven, older than Wang Cuihua and Wu Zhaodi.

"Just something minor, came to find Cuihua!" Sun Hong said as she sat down.

"Sister, what do you need me for?" Wang Cuihua asked.

"Nothing major, just came to ask if you’re going to Pingyang Town tomorrow? Quanzi is borrowing an ox cart tomorrow, so we won’t have to walk!"

"I’m in my confinement period, can’t go," Wang Cuihua said, looking at her eldest daughter, "Xiao Xue, are you going?"

"Just as well, we haven’t bought New Year supplies yet, let’s go!" Bai Ruxue realized that she had only picked up some snacks and daily goods from the supermarket and hadn’t yet gone to the supply store to buy some bowls and plates or anything. Buying new bowls for the New Year symbolizes adding both regular wealth and unexpected gains in the new year. If there are children about to be married, it’s a hope for better luck next year and a thriving family.

She couldn’t find the coarse porcelain bowls and wooden chopsticks typical of this era in the supermarket, plus they had a stove at home but no small pot for the stove; the kettle was leaking too, all needed to be purchased.

Luckily, she had plenty of industrial tickets, so she could buy those things.

"Big sis, I want to go too..." Bai Ruxia heard there was an ox cart going, and quickly scooted over to look at Bai Ruxue pitifully.

She had never been to town growing up. Originally, if she had attended middle school, she would have gone to Pingyang Town, but Grandma Bai stopped them, and they couldn’t go to school.

"Alright, Xiao Yun, are you going?" Bai Ruxue replied, figuring since there was an ox cart, she could take them along to stroll around.

"Big sis, I’m not going. I need to hurry and finish the cotton clothes and pants, so I can wear new clothes on New Year’s Day!" Bai Ruyun answered without lifting her head while sewing clothes.

She was too interested in making clothes to be attracted by anything else.

"Alright then, just us two!" Bai Ruxue decided, "Aunt Sun Hong, tomorrow Xiao Xia and I will go, call us when you’re leaving!"

"Alright! I’m heading back then! Busy with stuff at home!" Sun Hong said and got up to leave, moving quickly.

"Sister, take care!" Wang Cuihua only had time to call after her.

"Mom, can we go tomorrow? Let’s not let Dad go!" Bai Ruyue asked, seeing her two cousins going, wanting to go too as a child.

"Go back and talk to your dad!" Wu Zhaodi shook her head, smiling.

"My dad will surely agree!" Bai Ruyue’s little face was full of excitement.

In the evening, when Zhang Yuan came over for dinner, Bai Ruxue told him about going to town the next day, but he said he had other things to do and didn’t go along.

Originally, if Bai Ruyun could sew all night, everyone’s cotton clothes and pants would be done, but the big sis wouldn’t allow her to stay up, leaving the brothers’ unfinished.

The next day, they got up early, had breakfast, and Aunt Sun Hong came over to call them.

The two sisters dressed warmly and went out, Bai Ruxia also wore her snow boots.

Uncle Quanzi was driving the ox cart, and besides Aunt Sun Hong and the sisters, Wu Zhaodi and Bai Ruyue were also on the cart.

The little girl was excited, with flushed cheeks, chattering constantly. It wasn’t boring at all along the way.

Not long after leaving the village, they saw two people walking ahead, and on closer look, it was two female educated youths from the educated youth spot, one of whom Bai Ruxue knew—Zhao Hongmei, who had looked at her coldly that day.

They turned their heads and saw the ox cart, smiling happily, and waited by the roadside.

"Uncle, give us a ride, we’re exhausted!" Zhao Hongmei waved her hand as the ox cart got closer.

Seeing young girls asking like that, Quanzi had to stop the cart, letting the two girls hop on.

Getting on the cart, Zhao Hongmei saw clearly that Bai Ruxue was also on the cart.

Bai Ruxue had her face wrapped with the scarf Zhang Yuan gave her, so you wouldn’t recognize her on close inspection.

"Oh, isn’t that Bai Ruxue? What, got money from men and off for shopping?" Zhao Hongmei remarked sarcastically.

She had seen from afar that day Zhang Yuan brought over a bicycle and a sewing machine to her house.

Jealous, she hadn’t slept well that night, thinking if not for Bai Ruxue, Zhang Yuan would have been hers, and those things would all belong to her. Yet out of nowhere, this meddling girl messed it all up.

"What did you say?" Bai Ruxia was immediately displeased, "Say that again if you dare!" She fiercely said, ready to stand up.

"Say it again if you want! Whatever seducing tactics your sister used to lure Zhang Yuan, she knows herself! This sparrow turned into a fake phoenix, what? Didn’t Zhang Yuan give you a bicycle? Why didn’t you ride it?" She said with a false smile, acting superior, feeling like a princess.

"Hongmei, she’s just a countryside girl, a mud-legged one, how could she ride a bike? Don’t make things difficult for her!" The female educated youth beside her covered her mouth and giggled.

Looking at the faces of Aunt Sun Hong and Wu Zhaodi filled with anger, calling them mud-legged insulted them all, not to mention, Xiao Xue was sitting nicely, hadn’t provoked them, and they started trouble as soon as they got on the cart. These educated youths really weren’t decent.

Bai Ruxia kicked out immediately, making the female educated youth yelp.

"Stupid girl, what are you doing?" The female educated youth hunched over to hold her aching leg, yelling.

"Kicking you! Dumb to even ask?" Bai Ruxia stood firmly, with an aggressive stance.

"Bai Ruxue! Can’t people even speak the truth? Do you admit Zhang Yuan gave you a bike and a sewing machine?" Zhao Hongmei, seeing her companion kicked, wasn’t having it, shouted loudly.

"Ha... You’re just like winter flies that won’t die, are you taking yourself for something important? Ignore you, and you act up even more?" Bai Ruxue lifted her head, looking at Zhao Hongmei coldly, "What Zhang Yuan gives me is my business! It’s none of your concern! He’s not giving you anything, why are you barking? Or are you in love with Zhang Yuan, got rejected, now looking for a sense of presence here?"

"You... you shameless b*tch, fooling around with a man at such a young age..." Zhao Hongmei pointed at Bai Ruxue’s face and started cursing, her mind exposed, she was a bit ashamed and angry.

But before she could finish, Bai Ruxue kicked her off the ox cart, "You care about your face, you walk yourself! And let me tell you, see me in the future, watch your mouth clean! Otherwise, don’t blame me for knocking out all your teeth!"

Zhao Hongmei was kicked off, landing on her butt, pain bringing tears to her eyes, "You damn girl, you wait for me!"

The other educated youth on the ox cart was stunned, dumbfounded, looking at Zhao Hongmei kicked off.

"What are you waiting for? Waiting for me to kick you off too?" Bai Ruxue asked coldly.

"I..."

"Get off!" Bai Ruxia pushed aggressively, the educated youth couldn’t hold on and fell down.

But the snowy road hadn’t been traversed much by cars, so it was quite soft; falling down wouldn’t hurt much, just a bit painful.

Those two mouthy ones were kicked off the cart not long after they got on, pitifully, still having to walk to town, now with aching butts.
