After lunch, Nianyang and Jiang Tian packed their luggage, ready to take the bus back to school.

When Nianyang and the Jiang family arrived at the field, they saw Wang Ying wailing on the ground, with a patch of vegetables beside her that had been dug up into a horrible mess.

"Gu Nianyang, you damn girl, aren’t you going to help me? I’m your mother. What’s wrong with me taking some of your vegetables? And these fools here even want to grab me. Aren’t you going to teach them a lesson?" Wang Ying spotted Nianyang and immediately yelled loudly.

"Mom, I clearly told you last time, we have already divided the family. If you come and steal vegetables from our farm today, who else would they catch if not you?"

Nianyang said coldly, having absolutely enough of Wang Ying’s shamelessness.

The Jiang family remained silent; after all, this was Nianyang’s mother. It wasn’t their place to comment, and they left it to Nianyang to handle.

"What do you mean ’your family’s farm’? Have you forgotten that I gave birth to you? I’ve heard that this farm of yours is rented with your money. Dividing the family isn’t cutting ties. Won’t you even give me some vegetables if not money?"

Wang Ying had heard that Jiang Aiguo’s farm produced well-flavored vegetables that made a lot of money.

So she and Gu Yuandao plotted that if they couldn’t get money from the Jiang family, they might as well get some vegetables to sell. Who knew they would be caught, but so what? She’s Gu Nianyang’s mom. Would Gu Nianyang dare to hit her?

Nianyang struggled to remain calm and said, "Dad, when we split the household, we agreed on everything. The way you’re acting now is too disgraceful. Mom comes and steals vegetables without a word — is that what a mother should do?"

"Your mom’s actions are wrong, but she is still your mother. She only took some vegetables, really, can’t you be that generous with your parents?"

Gu Yuandao was quite astute, exploiting the situation by constantly steering the conversation towards filial duty given that village onlookers were gathered.

If Nianyang truly refused, she’d risk being criticized for not even giving her own parents some vegetables, which would seem cold-blooded and heartless.

Thus, Nianyang could only watch with a cold expression as the Gu family left triumphantly with a basket of vegetables.

The two of them thought their tactic worked well, planning to use the same approach next time for more vegetables. As long as Nianyang is their daughter, the Jiang family can’t shake them off!
