CHAPTER 362: HOW CAN I FORGET (II)
Then his attention shifted to Tracy. Oh, it seemed like this man was not as stupid as she thought he was.
"Do you know who did it?" Dominic questioned. As if realising that there was no point in harping over Inez being his mate. Smart. No wonder he was made the alpha of his territory so quickly. "Without evidence, I am afraid that the council will not let Inez leave."
"I will prepare a report of what happened to the inner circle members and get her out of this little mess. You don’t need to worry about her," said Killian as he moved around the room looking for the first aid box that he had placed in one of the cabinets, but he hated coming to work at the council and thus didn’t quite remember where he had put the box.
"I am sorry," Inez apologised to him, knowing that she had caused a lot of trouble for Killian without meaning to. The number of enforcers he had killed for her was more than she could count on her hands. Naturally, he would be questioned by the council for the sudden show of murderous intensity at the council grounds. All because of her.
"Don’t fret; we will deal with one thing at a time," replied Killian before adding, "You might not have slept the night. Get some sleep while I look for the first aid kit."
Inez shook her head and pulled her legs close to herself. "I don’t want to sleep." She really couldn’t sleep. Every time she closed her eyes, she would recall the memories of being locked up in prison, being whipped and being chased. Those memories would, in turn – her eyes darkened as she turned and looked at Dominic. "Why are you still here? Do you want to record my agony and publish it on the site? Was doing it once not enough that you are thinking of doing it all over again?"
"I didn’t," Dominic said. He could feel his heart crying out in anguish when Inez shot him that dismissive yet doubtful expression. "I swear I didn’t do it... I will never do it—believe me."
Killian scoffed. "You didn’t? You might not have posted that video, but there is no denying the fact that you were the one who did those things to Inez. Now don’t go ahead and lie to all of our faces that you didn’t do it." He straightened up after finding the first aid kit and turned to look at his beta, who was peering inside the office with a tentative expression on his face. "Go and call Anderson. Tell him that I need him in my office right away."
He turned to look at Inez and explained, "Anderson is a healer and also an expert in dissecting bodies. He can tell the cause of death within seconds. He is the best in the council."
"Won’t he..." find out what she was? Inez trailed off as she peeked at Dominic, who was now straining hard to hear what she and Killian were talking about.
"He knows how to keep a secret, though not about everyone —" He trailed off with a smile. "But I saved his life when he was about to be killed by a bunch of rogues, so he is loyal to me."
"Are you sure you want to speak about such things in front of me?" Dominic questioned. His eyes narrowed as he studied the arrogant man in front of him.
Did he not fear that Dominic would tattle this bit of information to Noah?
"You can go ahead and disclose the information to Noah, but then you will have to carry another guilt in your heart. Not that you have any less guilt to carry," remarked Killian as he pulled out a cotton ball and started wiping the blood off Inez’s back. She winced in pain, and the man’s smile hardened. "Just try to hold it in for a while."
Inez sucked in a breath and gritted her teeth, ignoring the one gaze that was burning a hole in her back. She didn’t turn her head, and neither did she pay any more attention than necessary to Dominic.
Something he noticed as well. Grinding his teeth hard, he stated, "I am not guilty of anything."
"If you were not guilty of anything, then you wouldn’t be here," Killian fired back smoothly. He continued to wipe the blood off Inez’s back while stating in a cold voice, "The fact that you are still haunting Inez is enough evidence that you need, Alpha Cherith. You might as well quit lying to yourself and start on with that report."
"What report?"
"The report where you need to tell the council that you all fucked up—"
"---Fuck."
Tracy’s voice cut through what Killian was saying, and she groaned. So loudly that everyone turned to look at her. Rubbing her forehead, she threw her head back and looked up at the ceiling, her other hand propped on her hip.
One look at her stance and anyone could tell that Tracy was exasperated and annoyed with something. But what? Inez had no idea about it.
"What? What is it?" Inez asked. Her heart tightened as she could see that Tracy had really bad news, and she had had enough of them for the entire night.
"I forgot the vessels." Tracy smacked her forehead hard enough to make a loud ’snap’. She did it once, and she did it one more time. Then again and again. And then she was pacing around in the room as if she had forgotten something really important. "Damn it, how could I forget the vessels?"
Killian’s attention snapped to Tracy, and so did Dominic’s.
"What vessels?" asked Killian with a frown.
"The hideout... oh, that warehouse—ah, damn it. That is not the point," said Tracy as she ran her hands through her hair. "I forgot to tell you that—that alpha, Alpha Dawson or whatever his name was... he joined hands with the witches to open a research institute. One where they were trying to recreate the amorphous shifters. And they failed a lot of times which means the mutated shifters are still trapped in the facility. "
