Rejected Luna: Untamed Desire Of The Lycan Alpha
Chapter 311: Conference At The Council
h4Chapter 311: Conference At The Council/h4
"Good morning, Alpha Sokolov," Elder Darius greeted him with a smile, a smile that Killian couldn’t return. Not when he could feel his chest ache, even though Tracy kept telling him that he didn’t form an imprinting bond with Inez; the tugging and pulling within his heart made him draw a sharp breath every next second. He knew that there was something wrong with Inez. He knew that she was hurting. Somehow, he could feel it in the marrow of his bones.
He didn’t care what Tracy said about the imprinting bond not even being present.
He knew that it was right there, and he could feel it pulse within him. If there was no bond between him and Inez, how would he know that she was hurt and afraid?
And yet, instead of looking for her, Killian was dragged to the council by Finn and the rest of the enforcers, because apparently, this was way more important than looking for Inez.
iYou are overthinking, Kill. If she were hurt, then don’t you think she would have called you? /i
This was what Finn had told him. And he wasn’t alone; the rest of the enforcers were also on it. They kept telling him that he was being way too paranoid, that Inez was fine and if something happened, then she would have called them through the pack bond. But they didn’t know her like he did. That girl had stayed alone for so long that she didn’t even know that she could rely on him or her pack when things got rough. If she ended up getting into trouble, Inez’s train of thought might not even go in the direction where she would think of relying on the pack.
Because for years, she had been alone.
"Elder Darius," ignoring Finn nudging him in his ribs, which was totally unnecessary, for he was still listening to what the man was saying to him, Kilian greeted the man back. "Can you tell me why I was called to the council?"
"There is a meeting regarding the murder of Alpha Remy’s mate," replied Elder Darius as they started to head down to the meeting room.
Killian arched his brow. "Alpha Remy’s mate?"
"Do you know her?" Elder Darius asked with a hint of curiosity in his tone. He then shook his head and stated, "I just don’t know what is going on. Someone could actually kill the mate of an alpha; if this is for the safety of the council, then I fear that it won’t be long before alphas will start umting their own personal shifter army. The only relief is that the culprits were caught. If not, then how would we even think of stepping out of our territory?"
"Even the mate of an alpha was killed. I wonder what more is waiting for us in the future?"
iIt’s indeed strange. How could the mate of an alpha be killed? Howe he never noticed that she was missing until she died? /i
His beast was prowling beneath his skin, snarling to be unleashed, to run and to tear down stone after stone until he could see his mate again. But beneath all that anger, he was still paying attention to what was happening around him. He mused within himself, sounding confused.
Indeed, how could Remy not sense the disappearance of his mate and howe he didn’t catch on to anything before she died? There were too many missing elements in this case but what surprised him was—
"They caught someone?" Killian asked. He had been involved with many cases of the council and he had never heard of the guards being so efficient that they had caught someone in a matter of a few hours. Even when he was leading a hunting team, they took at most a week to capture a culprit. Howe this time around the culprit was caught in just mere hours? Especially when these murderers were responsible for killing the mate of an alpha and that too someone who was part of the inner circle of the council.
Killian continued to walk down the corridor, his thoughts already weaving with ifs, buts and whatnots.
"I believe they are trying to figure out who hired those two women to kill Alpha Remy’s mate. Who do you think can be this bold, Killian?" Elder Darius turned and looked at Killian.
"Alpha Remy has countless enemies. Anyone could have made the move for he loves to cause chaos in territories he should not be poking his nose into."
"Like yours."
Killian raised his head and nced at the man who was smiling at him serenely. He knew what Elder Darius was ying at but he didn’t let the man poke fun at him. "Indeed, but if it were me. I would have killed that motherfucker and eaten even his intestines, making it difficult for the council to even find traces of the murder for months. So I assure you that it’s not me."
"True," Elder Darius conceded. "It’s not in the nature of the lycans to leave their prey in the hands of others. They like to do their dirty dealings on their own, don’t they? I heard it from Noah." He added when Killian continued to stare at him.
"Of course, Noah knows a lot about lycans, doesn’t he?" Snorting, Killian put a boost to his pace, his mind churning with possibilities. What if Inez was really in danger? What if, while he was busy with this meeting, she was suffering in pain? Could she even get out of that trouble? Or maybe she was waiting for him? What if he missed something? Was there something more in the note that she sent to him? No one other than him would worry about her going missing if she really ended up tumbling into a messy situation.
He shoved the thought away, refusing to let them drag down the puddle of negativity. No more spiralling out of control. He would just do with this meeting and then go looking for Inez. And when he was going to find her, he was certain that his bubble would roll her eyes at him and tell him that he was acting way too crazy.
