Dominic slowly turned and looked at the man sitting next to him. He narrowed his eyes and questioned, "I hope—you are not suggesting that one of us was responsible for administering this attack?"

Killian simply grinned at the man’s question. "I never suggested that, but at least we will be able to eradicate this suspicion that it was one of us. There is nothing wrong with clearing off the suspicion, right?"

"You are trying to muddle the situation by directing suspicion to us!" Elder Norman started with a growl. "You think that you can do just about anything just because Seth has been wiping your ass all these years?"

"There is no need for you to be upset, Elder Norman." Killian tilted his head to the left. "This is just a simple step, one that can help us bring the culprit to light. After all, Alpha Remy is one of us. The fact that he has lost his mate must have brought him great grief, and as his dear friends, the least we can do is to make sure that he will get some ounce offort by getting the name of the culprit who killed his mate."

"We already have a culprit. No, two of them—"

Killian simply rolled his eyes. He clicked his tongue and stated, "Only fools will believe that two women who were silly enough to be captured at the crime scene were involved in the killing of L." A pause, and with a wicked grin, he stated, "And I don’t see any reason why you are so strangely against my suggestion. Unless you are scared that it might bring your deepest, darkest secrets out?"

No one said a word, but at the same time, they were not happy with the suggestion either. No one truly liked Alpha Remy. The man was too sly, and his actions were hardly worthy of being a shifter. The way he flexibly shifted anywhere—many shifters looked down on him due to this. So, no one was really sorry about him losing his mate.

Elder Norman huffed. "You can try to bait me as much as you want, but I have done nothing wrong to be scared of."

Killian shot him a wicked grin. "That’s the spirit."

"Send me a detailed report on what you all were doing three weeks prior to the murder, including on the day it happened,"manded Seth. "Anyone who tries to sneak their way out of this will be strictly punished. The meeting is hereby adjourned."

Even with the meetinging to an end, Killian couldn’t shake off the annoyance and frustration that was building at the back of his neck. Usually, he felt better after pulling the legs of these elders, but today, even this was not enough to make him feel any better. It felt weird. Like some sort of evil foreboding.

"You should be a bit more polite to the elders," said Noah as he got to his feet. With his expression ever so calm, he stated, "Even if your blood is as barbaric as it can get, you can still act civil."

"And here I thought that you knew everything about lycans." Killian moved past the round table. Heading straight to the oak doors as he tried to shake off the tail that had caught onto him. "Lycans do not respect anyone who does not deserve it."

    "They are the elders—"

"Then let me correct myself." Killian paused and turned to look at the man behind him. With a sickly sweet smile, he stated in a quiet voice, "I meant I am only going to respect them if and only if they earn my respect. Sitting in fancy chairs and acting all lofty and mighty is not going to get them my respect."

Noah’s expression turned into something twisted. Murderous even.

However, Killian knew that the man was way too disciplined to even try and attack him in the council. He was a follower of the rules through and through.

Killian shed him onest smile before turning around on his feet and heading out. He needed to go out and investigate this tugging and pulling within his chest. If Inez was back in the territory, then it was well and good. If she wasn’t, then the world better be prepared, for he would be an inch away from setting it on fire.

Killian didn’t even blink upon hearing the words of his beast. "Should you not be stopping me from causing havoc?" Usually, his beast was the one who would try to restrain his temper. But then again, there was nothing usual about their mate’s disappearance.

iI would have if she were fine. But I know she is not—I don’t know how I know this, but I just do. We need to hurry, or else our mate will be in danger. /i

    iI know. /i

"Having trouble?" Dominic caught up to him, noticing the frown on Killian’s face; he raised his eyebrows slightly.

"Nothing out of the usual." Killian turned and nced at the man walking next to him. "What about you? Any signs of your runaway mate?" His lips instinctively curled upon that question. Killian didn’t care what happened between Dominic and Inez. What he cared about was the thought of Inez’s beautiful, sea-green eyes staring at Dominic with tears and betrayal. A poor woman who was rejected by her mother and abandoned by her mate. The thought alone was enough to make naked rage burn in his stomach. It seemed like loving someone was hating on every single bastard who made her cry.

Dominic stiffened. With an air of seriousness that he usually didn’t have, the man turned and looked at Killian. "Don’t you try to pull something on her, Alpha Sokolov. Men like you can never take care of someone like Inez. If you try to make a move at her, I will not sit quietly."

The words simply felt too amusing, especiallying from his mouth. Killian chuckled softly as he tried to stop himself from hurling a punch at the audacity of the man. "What are you going to do if I do, and with what rights? Have you forgotten how you rejected her in front of everyone?"

    "Killian—"

Before Dominic could say something, Seth walked out of the conference room and called, "Killian."

Killian and Dominic stared at one another before Killian turned to look at Seth, while Dominic offered a polite nod to the head of the council and then turned around on his feet before walking away.

iHe is still hanging on even though the mate bond is weakening. /i

Which was weird. If Dominic cared so much about Inez, why did he embarrass and reject her? If he was going to cling to her like that?
