CHAPTER 158: CHAPTER 158: MARRIAGE ALLIANCE

The air in the elevator was stagnant.

Half a step behind Elias Crowe, Jean Crowe held his breath, his gaze cautiously darting between his boss and Vera Sheridan, waiting to see her reaction.

Vera had her hair tied in a neat high ponytail, wearing a cream-colored suit jacket paired with a skirt of the same hue, accentuating her tall figure.

A ray of sunlight happened to slant in through the high window on the side, the light spots danced, landing on her cold, pale profile and straight shoulders.

Her face was expressionless, she just slightly raised her eyelids, her clear voice breaking the silence:

"I’ll wait for the next one."

Hearing this, Elias Crowe instinctively turned his head, his gaze falling inside the elevator.

Inside, Ian Kane was dressed in a sharp black suit, his figure was much leaner than before, exuding a cool, hardened slenderness.

His excessively cold and handsome face was indifferent, without a ripple.

His jawline was tense, lips pressed into a straight line, his eyes calm, his whole being like a sculpture.

Elias Crowe’s tongue swept over his molars, giving Vera a brief smile as a greeting: "Okay, we’ll go first."

The group followed Elias Crowe into the elevator.

The elevator doors closed silently.

The doors opened, and the bright light of the underground parking garage flooded in.

Jean Crowe quickly stepped forward, well-trained, "President Kane, the timing is just right to head to the airport."

Ian Kane nodded slightly, glanced at Elias Crowe, said nothing, and stepped away, followed closely by several core project members.

Elias Crowe watched his outstanding silhouette blend into the crowd, "Looking forward to your good news."

Ian Kane bent down to get into the Maybach, taking the tablet Jean Crowe handed him, the screen lit up with the final contract summary of the Norheim energy project and flight information.

"Inform Hal’s team that the project kickoff meeting will begin promptly two hours after landing," he instructed blandly as his eyes quickly scanned the key data points on the screen.

Jean Crowe replied, "Yes." The boss’s charisma was back with his earnest work.

Street scenes flew past the window, Ian Kane put down the tablet and raised his gaze.

The car was passing by the historic gates of Veridia University.

His eyes lingered on the gilded school name for less than half a second before moving away, a faint blurred image flickered across his mind... and vanished in an instant.

He picked up his phone and dialed his mother, Jean Crowe.

"Ian," Jean Crowe’s voice came through, with a hint of cautious probing, "Have you seen the marital partner I picked out for you? What do you think?"

Ian Kane’s lips curled slightly, almost imperceptibly, his voice steady and unruffled: "Good. We’ll discuss it after I return from Norheim."

...

In the hospital elevator, Vera Sheridan quietly waited, her gaze fixed on the floor numbers that kept changing.

Wade Winslows stood silently half a step behind her, to the side.

From the nearby nurse’s station, voices purposefully lowered, faintly reached them:

"Did you hear? The young President Kane who just left... my God, so young, and overnight, his hair turned all white! It’s eerie just to look at..."

"Really? His medical check-up results came out—"

"Are you crazy? Shut up! Have you finished your work to be gossiping here!" The head nurse’s stern voice sharply cut off the latter half of the sentence.

Vera’s brow instinctively furrowed slightly but then relaxed, her face remaining expressionless.

Just then, with a soft "ding," the elevator door slowly opened in front of her.

The bright light of the elevator cab spilled out, reflecting a tall, familiar figure.

Noah Grant stepped out, his dark suit accentuating his broad and clean-cut shoulder line.

His gaze fell on Vera, "Finished the check-up? How was it?"

As he spoke, he had already reached her side, his tall figure bringing a kind of silent reassurance.

Vera smiled slightly, "Just finished, only a small part of the results have come out."

Noah Grant naturally took the report folder from her hand, his fingertips inadvertently brushing the back of her hand, "Are you tired?"

As he asked, he quickly scanned the key indicators that had been released, "The bone density value is slightly low, what did the doctor say?"

Just as he finished speaking, a soft voice came from the side and behind them: "Noah? What a coincidence!"

Noah Grant and Vera Sheridan turned their heads in response.

They saw Vivian Langdon gracefully approaching from the other end of the corridor.
