Remarried Wife: Mr. Ex, We Will Never Reconcile!
Chapter 29: "Aren’t You Averse to Physical Contact with the Opposite Sex?
CHAPTER 29: CHAPTER 29: "AREN’T YOU AVERSE TO PHYSICAL CONTACT WITH THE OPPOSITE SEX?
Vera Sheridan brushed it off lightly, avoiding the main point, "A guy in the dance troupe got into a fight."
Maeve Holloway knew she didn’t want to trouble Noah Grant, but now Ian Kane couldn’t be relied on, could he?
She said directly, "Senior Grant, Vera was harassed in Club K, her student defended her and got into a fight, the other side started it, do you think this counts as self-defense?"
Noah Grant clenched the strap of his bag.
His attention was entirely focused on the phrase "was harassed."
"Wait a moment." He said this, then strode towards the inner room.
The case officers, seeing such an important figure, all stood up to greet him, "Attorney Grant."
Everyone knew him, the second young master of the Grant family in the legal profession,
Noah Grant was straightforward, "Release the boy who acted in self-defense first."
The officers were momentarily stunned, then quickly said, "Yes, it was self-defense."
Noah Grant continued, "Who’s the captain here?"
One of the officers replied, "Attorney Grant, Captain Chambers is in the office, please come in."
Noah Grant nodded and followed the officer towards the inner room.
The office door was knocked on, and the officer entered, "Captain Chambers, Attorney Grant is here."
Captain Chambers picked up his tea mug, "Which Attorney Grant?"
The officer replied, "From the legal system’s Grant Family, the second son, Noah Grant."
"Here about Mrs. Kane, Vera Sheridan’s case."
Captain Chambers quickly put down his tea mug and stood up to greet him, thinking, what does Mrs. Kane’s case have to do with him?
Noah Grant had already entered the room, exchanged pleasantries, then handed Captain Chambers a cigarette and personally lit it, whispering four words into his ear: "Attempted rape."
Captain Chambers was taken aback.
He paused for a moment and nodded, "Yes."
...
Outside, Vera Sheridan softly complained to Maeve Holloway, "I didn’t want to bother him again and again, why did you have to tell him?"
Maeve Holloway replied, "How is it a bother? I think Senior Grant is more than willing to help you. He used to be very concerned about you. I even thought you two would end up together."
Vera rolled her eyes at her, "Stop talking nonsense."
Maeve Holloway retorted, "I’m not talking nonsense. Back then at Veridia University, who didn’t know? The aloof Heartthrob Grant cared only for little junior sister Vera."
Vera was pulled into memories.
In her freshman year, to win the generous prize of the National College Go Championship, Noah Grant played game after game of Go with her and taught her many tactics.
At that time, she also thought he considered her a friend.
Later, when he left without saying goodbye, she realized he helped her win for the sake of the Go club.
Vera snapped back to reality, "I don’t even count as his friend."
Maeve Holloway countered, "One snowy night, when I was returning from a movie with my first love, I saw him personally feeding those stray cats for you—"
"Milo Hale’s out." Vera saw Milo Hale, interrupted Maeve Holloway, and went to meet him.
The young man’s pale, handsome face had a bruise at the corner of his mouth with traces of blood, and his hand was casually wrapped in a white bandage.
Vera hadn’t expected him to fight for her; before, because of Nina, this Milo Hale had always been biased against her.
The young man was about to walk towards the lobby door.
As if he were not familiar with her.
Vera grabbed him, "Besides these external injuries, is there anywhere else you’re uncomfortable?"
Milo Hale said, "No."
He was about to leave again, Vera held on to him, speaking seriously, "Sit down, let me treat your wounds, Attorney Grant hasn’t come out yet, you can’t leave."
Milo Hale frowned tightly, reluctant, but he sat down.
...
A Rolls-Royce Phantom pulled into the precinct courtyard, the driver opened the back car door, Ian Kane stepped out, and the police leaders came out personally to greet him.
He exchanged a simple greeting, walked up the steps, and entered the lobby.
As soon as he entered, Ian Kane immediately saw the gentle figure sitting in the corner.
His wife, holding a cotton swab, was treating a young man’s cheek, the two of them in close proximity.
She gently blew on the boy’s face, a look of tender care.
Ian Kane’s jaw tightened, his fingers brushed his wedding ring, and he strode over.
As he got closer, he saw Vera stand up.
He thought she saw him, quickened his pace, but then saw her walking in another direction.
At another glance, Ian Kane saw Noah Grant.
Vera’s slender figure had already reached him, her beautiful side profile adorned with a smile, saying something, looking very warm and lively.
The veins on Ian Kane’s temple twitched.
"Hey, Old Man Kane, you’re still alive!" Maeve Holloway returned with food and drinks for Vera and the others, saw Ian Kane, and greeted him loudly.
Mocking him deliberately.
Ian Kane pressed his tongue to his cheek, turned around with an easygoing demeanor, "Just got off the plane, when Vera called me, my phone wasn’t on."
"Vera wasn’t hurt, was she?" He said this while stepping forward to help Maeve Holloway with the paper bags.
Maeve Holloway dodged, still showing no good expression, "She’s your wife, you’re the closest person to her, how she is, you come to ask me?"
Seizing the opportunity to rebuke him for being out of touch, intentionally neglecting Vera.
Ian Kane was momentarily speechless, then quickly smiled, "Yes, my fault."
Maeve Holloway’s expression softened, "Old Man Kane, you’re really going too far this time. Vera came to you to communicate, and you avoided her, that’s very hurtful."
Ian Kane continued nodding, "Yes, I’m reflecting on it."
Maeve Holloway, "You should reflect."
"..."
The two walked together towards Vera and Noah Grant.
Vera, having asked about the situation, just turned around and was taken aback by Ian Kane’s familiar, handsome face she hadn’t seen in days, her fingers discreetly pinching the palm of her hand.
The man wore a black, thin long coat, a white shirt with a black tie underneath, looking refined and abstinent, appearing a bit slimmer.
When he reached her, he brought a fresh, woody scent, and the next second, he publicly embraced her intimately, leaning close to her ear, "Wife, you’ve been wronged."
Vera’s nose tingled, her fist pressed against his chest, she whispered, "Let go."
It was still the police station, so many people.
Ian Kane, however, held her even tighter, slightly raised his eyelid, glancing at Noah Grant not far away, lightly kissed Vera’s hairline, then let go, "Are you hurt?"
Noah Grant was talking with Maeve Holloway, but his gaze was fixed in this direction.
Vera gently broke away, "I’m not hurt, the other party didn’t touch me, Milo Hale from the dance troupe protected me."
"I also ran into Senior Grant, he helped secure Milo."
Ian Kane nodded.
Only then did Vera realize, the boy had slipped away at some point.
Ian Kane, holding her hand, walked towards Noah Grant, "Old Man Grant, I’m indebted to you again!"
Noah Grant glanced at him, "I’ve heard that line enough times, I did it for Vera."
Ian Kane’s eyes darkened, he didn’t say anything.
But Maeve Holloway noticed the subtle ambiguity in Noah Grant’s words and smiled imperceptibly.
The four of them walked out of the police station lobby together, Noah Grant and Maeve Holloway each got into their cars, Ian Kane helped Vera into the Phantom.
Just as she sat down, Vera, worried about Milo Hale, sent him a message, reminding him to keep the wound dry and apply medication on time.
Especially the wound on his face, if it became inflamed and swollen, it would look bad for the performance on the day after tomorrow.
Before receiving Milo Hale’s reply, her phone was forcefully taken away by Ian Kane, Vera frowned, turning her face to his sullen expression.
"Why did you help that kid with his wounds, doesn’t he have hands? Does he need you to take care of such minor injuries?" The man’s voice was eerie with evident jealousy, "And you were so close."
"Aren’t you averse to interacting with the opposite sex?"
As he spoke, Ian Kane tore off his tie, remembering how she wasn’t averse to Noah Grant either, adding a heap of frustration in his heart.
