Remarried Wife: She will Remarry, But Another Person
Chapter 5: A Complete Break
CHAPTER 5: CHAPTER 5: A COMPLETE BREAK
When she arrived, the man’s phone happened to ring.
He took out his phone and hurried away.
Sabrina only managed to catch a glimpse of a tall, upright, and noble figure.
Without caring about anything else, she withdrew her gaze and focused on her daughter’s situation.
"Zara, are you hurt?"
She urgently looked over the little one in front of her.
Zara seemed a bit stunned, took quite a few beats before she replied in a trembling childlike voice, "No, the uncle... caught Zara..."
Sabrina confirmed that she indeed wasn’t hurt and then nodded.
"Mommy saw, the uncle saved you."
Zara nodded her little head, "Gone... didn’t say thank you..."
Sabrina felt a bit regretful too.
The other party indeed left too quickly, she couldn’t even see his face clearly.
She asked her daughter, "Zara, do you remember what he looks like? If you do, next time we meet, you can thank him then?"
Zara nodded again, "Remember... uncle, good-looking..."
Sabrina was slightly surprised upon hearing this.
Zara has always been weak in perceiving the outside world, she usually doesn’t pay much attention to others.
This is the first time she described a stranger as ’good-looking’.
It seems that his act of saving her made an impact on her mind.
Sabrina rubbed her head, affectionately said, "Really? Then if we meet him next time, you’ll definitely recognize him... Zara, do you want to keep playing?"
Zara nodded, not at all scared off by the previous incident.
Sabrina felt a bit relieved and soon let her go.
It was at this moment that Jordan Hawthorne called, questioning, "Didn’t you promise to come today for the transition, why didn’t you show up?"
Sabrina’s heart skipped a beat, then she remembered.
She replied coldly, "Zara wasn’t doing well today, I..."
Jordan interrupted with a bit of displeasure, coldly stating, "Sabrina, I’m very busy and don’t have time for your stalling games. Don’t think using Zara as an excuse will change my mind. I expect you to come to the company for the transition tomorrow morning!"
He issued his final ultimatum and hung up without waiting for her response.
Sabrina listened to the busy tone on the phone, feeling a chill spread through her limbs.
He didn’t even ask: What happened to Zara?
He only thought she was using her daughter as a ploy.
Her heart was heavy with bitterness and resentment, but Sabrina quickly suppressed these feelings and put away her phone.
Very well, then, I’ll go and end this tomorrow!
...
The next morning, Sabrina went to the Hawthorne Group as promised to conduct the job transition.
When she got to the R&D department, she immediately saw Brooke, sitting in her spot.
The woman was dressed intellectually in a white chic-style suit that exuded an air of elegance and sophistication, like a pure lotus blossom.
Sabrina clenched her fingers tightly.
Back then, it was for Jordan Hawthorne’s sake that she stepped into a field she was not good at.
The dedication and effort she put in, she didn’t expect him to remember them, but she also hadn’t thought it would end with being pushed out.
Sabrina closed her eyes.
So be it!
Anything related to Jordan Hawthorne is no longer worth it...
With that thought, Sabrina calmly walked in.
Brooke in the office turned to look as soon as she heard footsteps.
Her face was originally gentle and peaceful.
But when she saw Sabrina, it was as if her face changed, becoming cold, with a hint of arrogance in her tone, "Why are you only here now? Miss Hayes, do you not even have a basic sense of punctuality? Or are you using this as an excuse to delay again? Do you think this will make Jordan relent?"
Sabrina was slightly surprised by her attitude.
Though they hadn’t interacted much before, she had seen her from afar.
At that time, her demeanor was not like this.
Who would’ve thought... that she could have two faces!
After collecting herself, Sabrina’s expression turned cool, "The start time at Hawthorne Group is nine o’clock, it’s eight fifty-eight now, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with my punctuality. If you can’t wait, you don’t have to!"
Brooke sneered, a hint of contempt on her face, "Jordan said today the management of this research room would be handed over to me, did you think saying this would make me go away?"
Her eyes narrowed as she assumed a condescending stance, "Don’t waste time, hurry and hand over the work, Jordan is still waiting for me to report progress!"
Sabrina listened to her vaguely bragging tone, feeling a slight sting in her heart.
But she didn’t show it.
She didn’t want Brooke to feel even more triumphant.
Sabrina maintained a cold expression and, out of responsibility for her work, patiently conducted the transition with Brooke.
She spoke in great detail, hoping to bring a good end to this work.
But before it was over, Brooke was already looking impatient, "Alright, I get what you’re saying, it’s about enough!"
Sabrina frowned slightly, "There’s still an important part of the research direction I haven’t mentioned..."
"But it’s all outdated data, what’s worth mentioning? Once I take over, those old things will be eliminated! That’s also why Jordan let me come!"
Brooke finished and stood up, looking down at Sabrina from above, "Now, you can leave here!"
Seeing her like this, Sabrina’s lips moved twice, then she sneered coldly, "Fine! Hope you can truly handle it..."
The R&D department’s scope is not small, the various data, she worked on for three years, it might not even be possible to transition in a few days.
This woman’s confidence is laughable.
Brooke’s expression darkened, "What do you mean? Questioning my abilities? Yet... it’s precisely Jordan who chose me!
Sabrina, you should understand by now, neither this company nor he is something you can reach for!"
Her expression quickly reverted to one of smugness.
Sabrina looked at her gloating face and said indifferently, "Indeed I deeply regret getting involved, thought it was a cold and noble diamond, didn’t expect it was so tainted."
"What are you insinuating?"
Brooke frowned, glaring at her.
Sabrina’s tone was mocking and icy, "Nothing, if you don’t understand, then forget it! But I’m curious, if you cared so much about Jordan, why did you marry someone else back then and have a child with him? Is it really love?
Or is it... that once it didn’t work out, you unwillingly decided to settle for second best?"
Brooke’s expression changed suddenly, like her tender spot had been hit, her eyes flashed with panic for a brief moment.
Sabrina caught it slightly and smirked, "Seems like some things are no coincidence, the moment Grandma Hawthorne passed, you couldn’t wait to come back."
"You..."
Brooke seemed utterly caught off guard by Sabrina’s daring mockery.
She wanted to retort but couldn’t find the words.
Sabrina noticed her reaction and it seemed she had guessed some truth.
But... it didn’t seem important anymore.
After all, Jordan Hawthorne is willing to be the fallback guy, isn’t he?
