Chapter 881: Chapter 870 Competing Over It
“Brother Tang, you’re back!” The young man nodded with a smile and said.
“Yeah, you kid, can’t you be more mindful, playing with your phone? You need to exercise more, that’s how you’ll qualify to become a full member of the Special Action Department!” Tang Lin said with a serious and earnest expression.
“Hehe, got it, got it!” The young man replied with a smile.
Tang Lin took out his documents from his hands, handed them to the young man, and said, “Take them and scan them yourself.”
“This… Brother Tang, who is this friend?” The young man asked, taking Tang Lin’s documents and looking at Song Yun.
“This is a colleague too, Song Yun, give him your documents,” Tang Lin said.
“Um!” Song Yun nodded and handed his documents to the young man as well.
“Ah! Are you also a full member of the Special Action Department?” The young man asked in surprise after checking Song Yun’s documents.
“Yes!” Song Yun replied.
“Amazing!” The young man’s eyes sparkled with admiration, and just as he was about to say something, Tang Lin interrupted, “Alright, stop standing there foolishly, we have things to do, hurry up!”
“Okay, okay!” The young man, holding their documents, jogged into the checkpoint, and after some hustle, the barrier in front of Song Yun and the others’ car slowly lifted.
The young man jogged back out and returned the documents to Song Yun and Tang Lin.
“Brother Song, I hope you can look after me in the future!” The young man said ingratiatingly.
Song Yun nodded without speaking.
After the car passed through the checkpoint, Song Yun asked, “Who was that?”
“That was an intern,” Tang Lin said. “They’ve been selected from various places for their talent, but because they lack the necessary skills, they can only intern for now, and typically interns also have to serve as security guards.”
“Why am I not one then?” Song Yun asked.
“You’ve got strong backing and sufficient skills, so of course, you can join directly!” Tang Lin said, pulling the car to the side and then said, “We’re here.”
What appeared before Song Yun was an ancient palace-style building with yellow tiles and red paint. The building wasn’t tall, just about two stories high, and the large gate at the front was wide open, allowing a faint glimpse of some people inside.
Parking beside Tang Lin’s Q7 were many cars of various kinds, ranging from modest QQ Alto to high-end Maserati Lamborghinis. There were several medium-range BMWs, Mercedes, and the like as well.
“Do you know why so many people want to get into the Special Action Department? Great benefits! High status!” Tang Lin said while walking inside, “If you’re not assigned elsewhere to develop some influence, the annual salary is over eight figures, and the state allocates over ten figures to the Special Action Department every year! Don’t underestimate those QQ Altos, they’re all modified. You know 007, right? Those gadgets are impressive? Many of these cars have some of those features, like the Alto I saw that can dive underwater, impressive, right?”
“That amazing?” Song Yun said in surprise, looking at the unimposing Alto.
“Of course, the National Security Bureau’s Special Action Department not only has strong individual members, but it also has a research institution affiliated with the National Security Bureau. Many of our pieces of equipment are developed here.”
Talking, the two walked into this palace-style building.
Inside, there were very few people, only about four or five. These people were either sitting in chairs resting with their eyes closed or chatting with others.
This was quite different from what Song Yun had imagined about the Special Action Department—they must all be impressive individuals, doing impressive things. At least, they should be punching sandbags, working out with equipment, playing with pistols, or playing with high-tech gadgets. But unexpectedly, the four or five people inside seemed like regular folks, appearing a bit unoccupied.
“Old Yang, you’re actually back alive!” Tang Lin shouted as soon as he came in.
The middle-aged man who was meditating, appearing to be in his thirties or forties, opened his eyes, looked at Tang Lin smiling, and said, “You’re not dead yet, how could I dare to die outside? But this time was really… eh, and this one looks unfamiliar, a new intern?”
Tang Lin laughed, “This one isn’t an intern, he’s from Group Three.”
“Group Three?” The middle-aged man was initially puzzled, but upon hearing Tang Lin mention Group Three, he suddenly understood and said, “The lair of the old monster? No wonder there’s such a young full member.”
There was a bit of disdain in his words.
Song Yun couldn’t help but be curious, what kind of person was his group leader?
And all the people around who were initially doing their own thing turned to look at Song Yun, and there wasn’t much regard in their eyes.
“Group Three’s guys aren’t here today!” Tang Lin glanced around and then said, “Looks like I have to personally take him to their group. You guys chat, I’ll come back to see you later.”
Tang Lin seemed to have a good rapport, and the people around nodded in agreement.
Tang Lin led Song Yun through a small door on the side.
Behind the door was a corridor, a corridor with an ancient style, not one of those imitation ancient corridors made by people with money to kill. The painted art on the wooden columns was beautifully done.
“What’s the difference between our Group Three and your other two groups?” Song Yun curiously asked.
“This… you’ll find out soon enough,” Tang Lin said with a somewhat strange expression.
After walking down this corridor, they came upon a fork in the road. Tang Lin pointed at the three paths and said, “These three lead to the different groups. Outside is the main hall where we hang out with nothing to do to bond. If the group leader calls a meeting or assigns tasks, we return to our respective groups. You guys in Group Three take the road on the far right, Group Two uses the middle, and Group One is on the left. But don’t go to Group One without reason. After all, you took out their group leader’s subordinate, and if you go, you might get roughed up.”
Song Yun smiled and didn’t reply.
Tang Lin led Song Yun down the right path, and after about five minutes, another palace-style building appeared before Song Yun, though it was much smaller than the previous one.
Tang Lin took a step inside and shouted, “Anyone from Group Three alive? I’ve brought someone for you!”
“Who dares to shout in Group Three!” A somewhat deep voice resonated from inside, followed by a man who appeared as chubby as Tang Lin.
“Fatty, you’re not out?” Tang Lin asked the man in front of him with a grin.
“Oh, it’s Old Tang! I just got back!” The man called Fatty said, then looked at Song Yun and asked, “Is this the person you brought for us?”
“This is your Group Three member,” Tang Lin said. “I’ve brought him over for you. It’s his first day here today, so be sure to tell him all about our Special Action Department! I’m leaving now! Song Yun, stick with Fatty, Fatty’s an old-timer in Group Three, he’s very nice. I’ll wait for you in the main hall later!”
“Okay, thank you very much!” Song Yun said.
After Tang Lin left, Fatty looked at Song Yun and asked, “When did you join the group?”
“It’s been a while!” Song Yun replied.
“Oh? You’re not Song Yun, are you?” Fatty raised an eyebrow and asked.
“Hehe, that’s me!”
“So it really is you, hahaha, I’ve heard your name in Beijing for quite a while now, hahaha! Didn’t think you’d look like this!” Fatty laughed heartily.
Song Yun wanted to say something, but once Fatty started laughing, he didn’t stop for about a minute before he gradually calmed down.
“Am I that famous?” Song Yun asked awkwardly.
“Yes! Of course, you are! How could you not be!” Fatty said, “You weren’t in Beijing at the time, so you didn’t know!”
“What didn’t I know?” Song Yun asked.
“Back then, when people recommended you, the leaders of the three groups all wanted you and nearly got into a fight over it. But our group leader was much smarter than the others. Instead of pointless bickering, he went straight to Mr. Song and, I don’t know what he said, but he managed to convince Mr. Song, and you got assigned to us. The other two group leaders were really bummed! Hahaha!” Fatty said, and started laughing again.
Song Yun was dumbfounded. Is this guy’s sense of humor really that low?
“Alright, no more laughing!” After another minute of laughter, Fatty said, “The group leader’s in the backyard, let’s go meet him!”
