CHAPTER 84: WHAT DID WE DO TO DESERVE THIS?

[And with this final battle, the third day of the Great Spring Tournament comes to an end! Today, you witnessed a spectacular clash between the young masters of the Medici Clan, who demonstrated their skills. Tomorrow, the tournament will enter its fourth day, promising even more excitement and surprises! Don’t miss it!]

In the waiting room, Kael was chatting with his mother, Alessia. His expression was slightly soft as he listened to her speak.

"Son, why don’t we go out to eat to celebrate your victory?" Alessia asked with a big smile. Her life in the mansion, which had once been filled with contempt and ridicule,

had taken a 180-degree turn. All because of the incredible son she had, who, despite not showing his emotions as he used to, still loved her as much as ever.

Kael paused for a moment and replied in a slightly warmer tone. After all, it was his mother who had asked him.

"Let’s go eat, Mother."

The two left the waiting room and headed toward the bustling, lively city, which was adorned with flowers and other decorative elements.

...

Night had already fallen.

The waning moon hung high in the dark, star-filled sky.

The night breeze rocked the grass and wildflowers on the mountain with a slow, almost melodious rhythm. And the gusts of wind rustled the tree branches, producing chilling sounds.

Fireflies painted the air with their crimson glow. Meanwhile, several miles away from the city, a massacre was taking place.

"AAAAHH! HELP ME! THEY’RE EATING MY BABY!"

"RUN, SAVE YOURSELVES! THE BEASTS ARE ATTACKING US!"

"HIDE THE CHILDREN! THEY ARE OUR ONLY HOPE!"

"SHIT! WHY NOW? DEFEND YOURSELVES!"

The desperate, heart-rending cries, mixed with wailing, filled the air of the village that was under attack.

A swarm of Purple Wolves with iron fangs and black claws like obsidian descended on the houses with insane ferocity. Their bodies, covered in dark fur with purple highlights, moved like living shadows among the corpses.

They tore them apart mercilessly. They bit throats and ripped open torsos as if they were ripe fruit.

Organs dripped from their snouts: hot entrails, fragments of splintered ribs, tongues torn out by the roots. Their fangs were bloody spikes decorated with scraps of human flesh and embedded eyes that still trembled with final spasms.

Several houses had already been destroyed, and many corpses littered the swampy ground while wolves feasted with bloodshot eyes.

The few who had managed to enter the forest shortly after began to hear their heart-rending cries in the distance.

The massacre that the village was suffering was shocking.

As they were just commoners and peasants, they had no way to defend themselves against the beasts.

The mating season was over. And the beasts were hungry.

"BUAAA!"

A baby’s cry rang out amid the horror. Pure. Innocent. Lonely.

For a moment, all noise seemed to cease as if the world itself were holding its breath.

But it was only for a moment. Then, silence.

One of those who was running turned his head.

He saw him.

A wolf walked among the remains, its tiny body caught between its fangs. The creature hung limply, its little head tilted to one side, its eyes still open in amazement.

The man fell to his knees. Not because of an injury. It was his soul that was broken.

His legs gave way. His hands trembled. He looked up at the moon, suspended in the sky like an indifferent witness.

"Why...?" he whispered. "What did we do to deserve this?"

A tear rolled down his cheek, dirty with dirt and blood.

And then, a wolf leaped out of the shadows. There was no warning.

Its claws ripped his throat open in a single motion. Blood spurted out like a fountain, painting the air a vivid red. The body collapsed, trembling, and within seconds, another feast began

The moon remained there. Watching.

As it always has.

As it always will.

The ruthless massacre continued, with screams filling the air. Until little by little they faded away, until all that remained was the sound of wild beasts eating, feasting on all the bodies.

An hour after the village was destroyed, in the nearby trees, a group of knights stood on the branches, watching the wolves play after eating, surrounded by corpses.

"They’re getting closer and closer to the city," said one of the knights with a grave expression.

"We have to hurry back and report this. The beasts are advancing too quickly," said another with a dark expression, after looking at the scene of the destroyed village.

He felt something brewing in the darkness, but he didn’t know what it was, and it terrified him to the core.

"Let’s go, there’s nothing else to see here."

They stopped looking and began to leave the scene to report this incident, where there was not a single survivor of this horrific massacre.

Just then, the entire group was quickly beheaded, and their heads fell to the ground, followed by their bodies. Lying on the damp, muddy ground, their bodies suffered slight spasms.

"Phew, thank goodness we made it in time." A female voice echoed in the surrounding area.

She had short black hair, eyes of the same color, and a large scythe hanging over her shoulder that glinted in the moonlight.

"That young man with the coin mask was right. If it weren’t for him, things would have been very problematic," commented a brown-haired man with a scarred face and a sword hanging from his back.

The woman turned her scythe and said with some surprise, "Although I’m still surprised how that young man knew our identities."

"Well, I don’t care who that young man is. It’s just that he’s very dangerous. Why does he know so much about the Medici Clan? Does he hold such a grudge against us that he would plot our destruction?"

The woman put her hand to her lips, thinking for a moment, but then said casually, "That doesn’t matter to me. We still have to keep working."

Without further ado, they quickly left the place, just as they had appeared.

...

The next day, with the sun shining high in the sky,

the coliseum was once again filled to watch the next fight.

It was the first fight of the day.
