Revenge Wears Red Lipstick
Chapter 109: Family Dinner
CHAPTER 109: FAMILY DINNER
The father and son glared at each other for the longest time possible, before Mr. De Rossi parted his lips to speak.
"What if that little wife of yours is behind all of these?"
Dante’s eyes narrowed at his father, unable to believe his thoughts.
"That woman has been snooping around and who knows what she’s been getting her hands into," he continued. "For all we know, she’s been eavesdropping on your conversations, getting information so that things can work in her favor."
This was the second time his father believed he and Eva were the same kind of people. But they weren’t.
However, Dante didn’t bother saying anything regarding that.
He trusted Eva. He’d never suspected her of being the one who was always robbing him of his weapons, but if hypothetically she was the one, he would be impressed, rather than angry.
At least, she would be doing something he couldn’t do.
However, there was still a big chance she might not be the one.
"I only came to relay the message. Once you think of a solution, you can let me know," he said and turned to leave before his father could stop him.
Mr. De Rossi was thinking about how Eva could be connected to robbing them of all their arms.
The Montclair was just as powerful as the De Rossi and although she didn’t look like someone who could be part of a syndicate, after James went missing while finding information on her and her missing sister, it was obvious there was more to her than meets the eye and he would want to find out more.
Tonight was a special family dinner at the Montclair mansion.
Unlike the first time that Dante and Eva had gone there to introduce him to the family while still silently beefing with each other, things were different this time around.
They were holding hands like a proper couple, smiling all the time as the Montclair couple welcomed them inside.
"Everything is going so smoothly for you, Eva," said Jace. "It’s good that you managed to put those people right where they belonged."
He was talking about Nathan and Katherine.
Katherine was still in jail and her hearing was soon. Nathan had already been kicked out of Cross’s corporation and impeached from being the CEO.
According to the media, a new voting system will commence soon as a new CEO will be selected.
Since Mr. Cross doesn’t have a son of his own, he would have to pick one of his lackeys whom he’d been training from a young age to replace him, but before that, he would need to take back the CEO and coordinate things for a little while.
His retirement days were over.
"Honestly, I didn’t do much," she replied with a smile, but deep inside, her heart was jumping in joy.
After the reveal that she was Eva, her fans had been matching her walks as Alisha and Eva, comparing the two.
The news was a big one, and because of that, Veila has been demanding explanations from her.
But Eva didn’t let that bother her.
She already planned on canceling her contract with Veila but signing with Eleoquise later, right after the election.
The other cities have been protesting for a while now, and their governors have been trying to make an explanation that someone must have snuck the drugs into their country. Unfortunately for them, the civilians weren’t buying their explanation.
Things have become tough, and the soldiers are being involved, shooting down civilians also.
It was going to be a hell of a hectic election.
Eva glanced over to where Dante was having a word with her father.
This was probably their second time meeting after months, and they seemed to be having a normal father and son in law conversation with smiles on their lips.
Eva couldn’t help but smile as well. After making Katherine and Nathan pay for what they’d done to her, she felt she had achieved everything.
The last person to pay for his crimes was his father. Thinking of that made the smile on Eva’s smile falter.
She still hasn’t confronted Dante about the conversation she overheard him having with Mr. Jaime Lorenzo.
She sighed, her shoulders dropping. She could only hope nothing had happened to their relationship for the next few days.
Meanwhile, while speaking with Mr. Montclair, Dante’s heart was racing in his chest, goosebumps rising on his skin. And although his father-in-law also had a smile on his lips, it felt threatening to him.
"You want to wed Eva?" The older man asked, his eyes narrowed into slits as he scanned Dante up and down, wondering if he was worthy.
The look made Dante resist the urge to shrink back but he held his ground.
"My marriage with Eva was only on paper to clear up some rumors." His gay rumors have died down over the past few months. Successfully, his team was able to get every photoshopped picture of him off the history of the internet. "And over those past few months, I’ve come to realize that I want an actual wedding with her, to love her forever and have a family with her."
Mr. Montclair’s smile faltered. Although he was touched that his daughter was finally able to find love once again, he was still nervous.
This was also the same way Nathan had come to him asking for her hand in marriage, and he’d given her away so freely, only for her to lose so much, including her life.
He didn’t want to make the same mistake ever again.
He turned to look at Eva who was having a conversation with her brothers. She looked happy, fulfilled.
He couldn’t remember the last time he’d seen her like that.
"Dante," the older man called, his eyes still on Eva. "My daughter has been through a lot, and I hope you never become a reason she has to turn cold once again."
Dante’s heart sank. He was hiding a big secret from her. He couldn’t tell her yet without risking his sister’s life.
"I won’t," he hoped.
Mr. Montclair was about to say something, but a knock on the door interrupted them.
"I’m sorry I’m so late," said Ryan.
Dante glared daggers at the man.
