CHAPTER 112: ACCIDENT

Eva stared at the television, shock written all over her face when she saw blood spurting right out of James’ head, his guts flying out and landing on some of the civilians who were close to him.

After involving James’ families in their threat to make him talk, it finally worked. Turned out that even while working for a corrupt politician, the man still valued his family and always put them first.

James had confessed to everything that Mr. De Rossi was involved in.

Knowing fully well that a recording would simply be dismissed as being forged, James’s presence at the debate, confessing to what Mr. De Rossi had gotten his hands involved in would definitely not be easily dismissed, especially since the people were all searching for one thing and that was an explanation.

She’d instructed Ryan to send him to the debate and confess everything he knew of Mr. De Rossi.

However, Eva didn’t think that James would die right before he was able to reveal anything.

’I underestimated that man too much,’ she thought to herself as she watched the crowd scream and run for their lives, while some fainted on the spot when their bodies failed to contain the shock.

She quickly rang a call to Ryan who picked up in less than a second as if he was already expecting it.

"I saw it. I’ll immediately release the documents," he said right before she even parted her lips to speak.

This was their plan B.

Their earlier plan was for James to reveal Mr. De Rossi’s secrets. James’ words carried weight since he was already recognized by the public as Mr. De Rossi’s P.A., so if he revealed anything about his boss, a large number of people would believe him.

But they’d prepared those documents that Eva managed to steal in the old man’s office, ready to upload them on the internet.

"I’m going to speak with Dante. I have to tell him everything," she said.

Ryan was quiet at the other side before for a while before he responded, "You still have to be careful. For all we know, he might be the one who shot James just to keep his father’s secret safe."

Ryan’s words made goosebumps appear on Eva’s skin.

She shook her head, completely forgetting that Ryan wasn’t there to see it.

"I trust Dante," she said but Ryan didn’t respond this time.

She hung up on the phone, her hands trembling while his words hovered above her head like a dark storm that refused to go away.

’Dante isn’t like his father,’ she thought, shaking her head. ’He’s not.’

Despite her hands trembling, she placed her phone in her trouser pockets, already dressed to leave the house incase a situation like this called.

If she told Dante everything, perhaps he would team up with her and take his father down. That was her hope.

Since he was the son, it was much more easier.

Yet again, Ryan’s words rang in her head like a bell.

It was already evening, the time hitting 6:30pm. Dante had left for the work that day, completely having no interest in the election.

If Dante was in his office, then she could easily dismiss Ryan’s words out of her mind.

However, when she got to the building, the receptionist told her the last thing she wanted to her.

"Our CEO is not at the office ma’am. Is there a message you would want to relay to him or would you prefer waiting in his office?" She asked with a smile on her face, her face hitting up because this was the first time Eva was present in her husband’s building.

Eva felt like she’d gone deaf.

"I’m sorry, but what did you say?" She asked the receptionist, her eyes already red, trying to hold back tears that had no business falling at that moment.

"Our CEO is not in the office. Do you want to stay in his office and wait for him?" The receptionist repeated.

Without responding to the woman behind the table, she turned to leave, storming right out of the building while digging her hand right into his trouser pockets and dialing a number.

But he wasn’t picking up.

Dante wasn’t answering his phone.

"Where are you?" She wondered.

She didn’t want to believe that Dante would be behind something like this. He couldn’t possibly be working for his father.

Eva got into her car, her hand gripping the steering wheel like her life depended on it.

"He might have gone out for another business. Just because he wasn’t here, that didn’t mean that he was the one who shot James," she told herself.

She’d seen Dante kill before, and he did it so mercilessly.

Eva decided to head back home. Dante would return and she would ask him where he went.

The time was 7:30pm now and the sun had already set into the horizon, leaving the streets dark.

Eva only wanted to get home and wait for Dante there. She was sure he had a perfectly good explanation why he wasn’t at the office.

She received a text from Ryan, informing her that he’d already released those documents from an anonymous account.

She made a mental note to check the comments once she got home.

All of a sudden, Eva felt her car bounce forward with so much force. She checked her rearview mirror and saw a jeep right behind her car.

She was in an empty lane, and the other lanes were empty so the driver could just drive to the other lanes. But no, the driver bounced on her car once again, this time with so much force she jerked forward.

As if that wasn’t enough, the jeep hit her car harder. She tried changing lanes but the jeep followed her.

It was obvious the person driving right behind her was on a mission.

Immediately, she accelerated the car, driving at full speed now. But before she could get far, the jeep hit her car once again, this time bouncing her right off the street.

Eva had a hard time trying to control the steering wheel.

But her car ended up hitting a tree, her head hitting the steering wheel hard.

She heard footsteps approach her, but she was too weak to do anything.

"Is she still alive?" She heard a voice ask, trying to grasp onto reality before she could lose consciousness.

"She should be. Let’s take her to the boss," the other person responded.
