CHAPTER 117: MISSING

"Are you sure you don’t know where she is?" Dante asked Maxine, his worry deepening when the woman gave a negative idea.

"Today is Eva’s day off and she said she would be resting at home," she said over the phone, her hand on her chest, her tone filled with worry.

Dante hissed under his breath before he hung up on the phone.

He’d just returned home, it was 10pm.

After what he’d done today, he just wanted to lie in Eva’s arms and perhaps tell her the truth.

However, the servants said she’d been gone out since 6:30 p.m. His receptionist had called to inform him that his wife had come to see him at the office, but she immediately left after he told her he wasn’t around.

Dante resisted the urge to pull his hair in frustration.

He dialed Eva’s number once again, but it quickly went to voicemail.

He’d seen her calls hours ago, but couldn’t pick up because he’d been busy dealing with the murder list his father had given to him.

And now, he couldn’t find her.

He grabbed his car keys and went to the Montclair family mansion immediately. He didn’t even wait for the servants to open the door for him, as he pushed it open, only for him to find all the members of the family having what seemed to be a meeting.

Mrs. Montclair was sobbing while her husband had a very serious look on his face. Similar look to his two sons.

"I’m terribly sorry for interrupting but have any of you seen Eva?" He asked.

They all turned to glare at him, rage evident in their eyes compared to the look of warmth they stared at him with, especially his mother-in-law.

Without hesitating, she stood up from her chair and slapped Dante across the face, her face red with rage.

"You did this!" She screamed. The two sons immediately came to calm their mother down, but she wasn’t going to back down so easily. "You killed James!"

Dante forced his saliva down his throat, wondering how they knew about that, and how they knew who James was.

"W-what are you talking about?" He stuttered, something he’d never done before.

Unexplainable fear was starting to creep on to him, and he despised it.

"You don’t have to pretend to not know what we’re talking about," said Jace. "Eva was the one who brought James there to reveal your father’s dark secret, but you killed him just to protect the rotten image of your father."

Ryan was able to hack into the CCTV cameras in all the buildings surrounding the area where the debate was held. It took great effort, but a man holding a sniper rifle had been captured on the last floor of one of the buildings.

He wore a mask to hide his identity, but since they knew Dante’s figure, they could easily identify it was him without seeing his face.

Dante huffed, rubbing his face in frustration.

"I’ll explain everything later, but do you know where Eva is? I’ve been trying to contact her but she hasn’t been picking up—"

"You’re so shameless. After everything you’ve done, you’re still searching for my daughter?" Mrs. Montclair questioned. Dante cocked up an eyebrow at her. "Eva has gone missing. We have not been able to find her."

"What?"

Eva...missing? Especially now of all times?

His mind immediately drifted to his father, the phone call from earlier.

His eyes darkened.

Without saying anything else, he left the mansion, ringing a call to his father.

"Where are you?" He grunted.

An hour later, Dante was at the De Rossis’ family mansion.

He completely ignored his mother who was shocked to see him there and went up to his father’s study room.

He saw the study room. He could see his father sitting there, reading some kind of document as if he cared about the well-being of the civilians.

Dante stormed towards the space, pushing it open with so much force that it caught the older man’s attention.

Before Mr. De Rossi could talk, he was already dragged out of his seat, Dante’s hand tightening around his neck.

"Where is she?" He questioned, his eyes res from rage.

"Where’s who?" Mr. De Rossi asked, feigning ignorance. "Who are you talking about?"

Dante glared at his father. All the hair on his body stood on end, tears threatening to well in his eyes.

His father had made a promise to get rid of Eva. She’s finally gone missing, and who knows what he could have done to her.

"Do you love that woman so much that you would hold your father so disrespectfully?" He asked.

The older man has a grin on his face while Dante’s eyes narrow at the bandage on his cheeks.

"Where’s she?" He demanded, his glare so intense now that it possibly bore a hole in his father’s forehead.

"Let me go first."

Mr. De Rossi was finding it hard to breathe now even though Dante didn’t use all of his strength on the collar, pulling him up.

"If you want to know where she is, then you’d better let me go," he repeated.

Reluctantly, Dante released him.

The older man adjusted his suit, feeding on oxygen as if he’d been starved of it his entire life.

"I sent her to a place she would never return from," he replied. "But before you start barking like a madman again, you need to understand that she pushed me to do it. I wanted to bury her alive, but because of her resilience and stubbornness, I had to shoot her down before doing so. You see Dante—"

Mr. De Rossi didn’t get the chance to say his other words when Dante’s fist collided with his face which left the older man stumbling back until his feet gave way.

"I told you to leave her alone. She’s not a part of any of these. I told you..." Dante pulled his father by the collar, yanking him up now and landing another punch on his face. "I told you to leave her alone."

Mr. De Rossi lost consciousness.
