CHAPTER 118: HALF A YEAR

Dante started searching for Eva everywhere. It wasn’t easy since he didn’t get the location of where his father had buried her before losing consciousness.

His teeth were gritted when he ordered Rico to try hacking into every possible camera in the whole of Lexora.

It was a difficult task but Rico managed to hack as many as possible, unfortunately for them, they didn’t find anything.

Since Mr. De Rossi had her buried, their first clue was to head to all the cemeteries in Lexora, but there were no newly dug graves. He attempted to dig out the ones that had already been buried, but the authority had to intervene, stopping him.

Dante didn’t sleep. It was already 6am, his eyes bloodshot, staring into all the cameras, searching for any possible clue.

When his father regained consciousness, he demanded to know where Eva was buried, but he was denied the information.

"Because of what you did to me, I’ll make sure Rhea has a little taste of it," Mr. De Rossi threatened.

Dante had no choice but to coordinate himself. His head was about to burst, thinking of where his father could have buried Eva.

If he truly buried her, she would be out of oxygen by now and...

Dante shook his head when the lifeless image of Eva appeared in his mind.

"No," he shook his head once again. "She’s not dead."

The Montclairs weren’t happy with the news of their daughter’s missing. They still believed she was missing and not dead like Mr. De Rossi had told Dante. But he couldn’t say anything to them if he wanted to keep Rhea safe.

Days turned into weeks, weeks turned into months, yet there was no news about where his father could have possibly had Eva buried.

The election was over and the winner was announced. Of course, his father won, while Dante had no choice but to continue killing the people on his murder list.

Six months later,

"What did the doctor say?" Jace asked, taking a seat near the bed, his eyes soft when they landed on Eva’s body. Only the small rise of her chest indicates she was still alive.

But she’d been lying on that bed for the past six months, and not a single movement from her has been recorded. It felt like watching a lifeless body for the past six months.

"All they keep saying is she’s stable," Ryan replied. "But they can’t predict when she’s going to wake up. The bullet was one inch close to her heart, and she only survived by a miracle. And there’s a chance she might never wake up."

Jace forced his saliva down his throat. He didn’t like what he was hearing, but there was nothing he could do to help his little sister wake up sooner.

If only she had never been involved with Dante from the beginning, then she would probably be enjoying her life, going for photoshoots as she’d always wanted to, changing agencies, and becoming a top model.

But everything was ruined because of the De Rossi family.

"We need to find a way to stop Mr. De Rossi. That man has started gaining political influence from other countries’ presidents. He’s started plotting for the presidential election when it’s only a few years away," said Ryan.

Jace could only rub his face in frustration. Nothing was looking out for them for the last few months.

Thankfully, on the day Ryan was able to track Eva, she was wearing the earrings that Ryan had personally designed for her with GPS trackers in them.

After informing them of Mr. De Rossi’s threat to her, Ryan had made sure to replace every single thing she owned, or either placed a GPS tracker in them in case a situation like this occurred. And it did.

Unfortunately, he was late when going to the forest. The last time he’d made a phone call to her was after six in the evening. After uploading all the documents on the internet, it stirred up uproar from the civilians before it was immediately taken down.

He’d called her several times but she didn’t pick up, so he was left with no other choice but to track her down, only to find her location deep in the ground.

The cement had blocked her nose, stopping her from breathing. Her blood was everywhere.

The scene had been too gruesome and painful to watch even when he wasn’t the one who was hurt.

Ryan couldn’t risk taking her to a hospital in Lexora. Instead, he called a family doctor to keep her stable before flying her out of Lexora.

As for the civilians who were still enraged with what they’d seen of Mr. De Rossi, the man had no choice but to organize a charity, sharing food, water, money, and clothing with the homeless to divert their thoughts, which worked.

Eva had been the one who led them in cases like this, but now that she was unconscious, fighting for her life, they’d been disoriented for the past few months.

They’d not attacked any weapons shipment anymore as all their worries were on her.

"We can’t keep on slacking off like this," said Jace with a sigh. "People’s lives are in danger. But before anything, make sure that he never finds her."

Ryan knew who Jace was talking about.

Dante had nearly gone mad now. In fact, he looked like a madman from the pictures taken of him.

The media were also curious to know what had happened to Eva. Since she’d gone missing once before, they suspected that an enemy had gotten to her once again.

But since Katherine was still in jail, they didn’t have any suspects. They didn’t know what lies beneath the entire show so they’d been bothering Dante for answers and what he’d been up to.

"I’ll never let him find her," Ryan promised, glancing at Eva’s body. She looked so pale and helpless his heart couldn’t help but ache for her. "He has caused enough damage."
