CHAPTER 30: INTIMIDATE HER

Alisha returned to the ballroom, a few minutes before the main performance had started.

Maxine had insisted on coming along with her, but Alisha had objected. There were some things she wanted to get done before Dante found her.

There was this feeling that if he found her, he would watch her like a hawk and keep her by his side, which would only limit her movements.

She’d seen a man right when she was walking in with Katherine. It was Lucas Tedoro.

He was a man in his early sixties, short and mighty. He’d been seen in the past, speaking with the same politician that Alisha’s father worked for right before he died.

It wasn’t every day she saw the man in public space, especially at his age, and also, he didn’t hold any political office, making the chances of seeing him at events very thin.

However, Alisha had, and she was going to question him tonight. If she were lucky enough, he would be willing to tell her something, anything helpful at all about her parents’ killer.

Alisha scanned around but she didn’t see him anymore. If she wandered off for too long, she might end up getting seen by Dante or Katherine, who were the last people she wanted to see at that moment.

Right when Alisha was about to give up in the bustling ballroom with the sound of champagne glasses clicking, she found him in their midst, having a word with Mr. De Rossi.

They seemed to have a good relationship due to how loud they were laughing at what seemed to be a joke.

Alisha’s lips twitched. She couldn’t go there now. Come to think of it, she hadn’t seen Mrs. De Rossi around, perhaps she didn’t come with her husband.

Alisha monitored them, waiting for the perfect chance to interrupt.

However, someone suddenly blocked her vision. She looked up at the man.

It was Nathan.

She frowned slightly, looking behind her to see if Katherine was probably right there.

But she wasn’t.

"Is there something I can help you with, Mr. Cross?" She asked with a tight smile.

"Nothing actually," Nathan said, a grin on his lips. "This is the second time I’m meeting you in person. The first time, we didn’t get the chance to talk," Nathan added, reminding her of the time Dante had taken her to his wedding.

"And what would you like to speak to me about?" Alisha asked, still confused about why he was speaking to her in the first place.

"My wife had come to me with a complaint that you were making things hard for her in the academy," he started while Alisha stared at him with an impatient look. "Look, I didn’t come here to scare you—"

"Katherine never mentioned anything like that, Mr. Cross. We’ve been very close and if she had any misunderstanding with me, she would come to me and not...send you," she said, swiftly looking behind him only to find Mr. De Rossi and Lucas are still talking.

"Exactly! I don’t want to make things hard for you at all. I love Katherine, she’s my wife. I’m not saying this to you as a threat, but if you hurt my wife again—"

Alisha sighed as she came to the conclusion that Nathan was only talking because he had the ability to. But from what he’d said so far, it was obvious Katherine had reported her to him.

Maybe he had a hand in what had happened in the pool? Was he in cohorts with her? She wouldn’t be surprised if he was at all.

"Mr. Cross, up till now, I still don’t understand what you’re trying to say to me. I’m just a rookie who’s trying to climb the ladder to fame. Katherine is a senior and I respect her, but if you’re still going to blab about what you’ll do if I hurt her without actually giving a real context, I’m sorry but I don’t want to continue this conversation anymore."

She walked past him as soon as she saw the conversation of the two people she’d been monitoring the entire time had ended without giving Nathan a chance to react to her words.

She could feel his glare on his back, but what she didn’t know was that he was looking at her butt.

He licked his eyes.

’I might have to try harder if I want to intimidate her,’ he thought to himself.

Meanwhile, someone had been looking at Alisha the entire time, a big frown on her face.

’Why is that bitch still alive?’ Katherine wondered through gritted teeth.

Alisha was close, passing through the crowd as calmly as possible so she wouldn’t be suspected of anything.

"Mr—"

Right when she was about to call his name, a pair of hands wrapped around her waist, pulling her into a dark corner.

Instinctively, she readied herself to land a big punch on the person’s face but her fist paused mid-air when she saw their face.

It was none other than Dante.

He was always interrupting important moments and she couldn’t help but wonder if he was already watching her.

"What do you think you were about to do?" He questioned her, eyes sharp.

"What do you mean by that? I was just about to speak to Mr. Tedoro when you interrupted. Do you have a keen interest in always interrupting my plans?" She questioned, yanking his hands off her waist

"And why would you want to speak with him? You don’t even know him," he said, eyes furrowing in confusion.

Dante didn’t know her initial plans but one thing was for sure, Mr. Tedoro was not the type of person she would want to talk to.

"It’s none of your business," she almost yelled. "Get a step or two back, will you? You’re too close."

He wasn’t too close. Just that his cologne infiltrated her nose and the warmth seeping from his body wasn’t letting her think straight.

Dante didn’t move.

"Tell me why you need to speak to Tedoro and I’ll help you," he offered.
