Revenge Wears Red Lipstick
Chapter 62: Evil Man
CHAPTER 62: EVIL MAN
"You’re my daughter-in-law, even though I don’t know how you managed to enter my son’s life," he said as he took one step closer to her. "But I wouldn’t want to have to get my hands dirty before the elections begin, don’t you think, Alisha?"
"Excuse me?" Alisha asked, flabbergasted by the words that slipped from Mr. De Rossi’s lips. She wasn’t sure if she could use the word slip because it seemed he wasn’t intending to sugarcoat his words at all. He wanted to pass his message across correctly, and he stared at her, as if he had just stated the weather condition.
Alisha blinked at him.
"I’m still trying to figure out how you have my son wrapped around your fingers," Mr. De Rossi said. "I’m still wondering how you two met, Eva," he called her by her real name and her body immediately stiffened. "But you’re not the daughter-in-law I want."
Alisha frowned at him, her eyebrows furrowed in confusion as she patiently waited for him to continue.
"Like I said, the election is around the corner, I wouldn’t want to get my hands dirty."
The man seemed to be talking in riddles, making her even more confused than she already was.
But one thing was for sure, he knew her real identity, and he probably sensed something that made him threaten her so openly.
"I really don’t know what you’re talking about, father-in-law," she said.
Mr. De Rossi scoffed.
"I don’t know why you’re stalking me, but you should quit," he said and everything made sense to Alisha.
No wonder she didn’t find him when he went into the bar. He’d spotted her and hid himself.
"If you weren’t hiding anything, you wouldn’t be so agitated," she said. "Like you said, the elections are around the corner, and I would like to see how you win."
She decided to drop the act instead of stretching things out.
Mr. De Rossi took another step towards her, his grin spreading with something evil laced in his gaze.
Alisha took her stance. She wasn’t going to be intimidated by such an old wicked man who was so greedy that he would put the lives of innocent people in danger without a single care in the world.
"I always get rid of obstacles on my way, no matter who they are. You might be my daughter-in-law, but that doesn’t make you an exception." Then he scanned her up and down before meeting her gaze once again. "You’re just one woman, what can you do?"
Alisha glared at him, feeling rage course through her body.
She’d always suspected Mr. De Rossi was an evil man, and now that his real identity was coming out of the cupboard, she couldn’t help but feel enraged.
She was about to respond to him when she heard another footstep approaching them.
It was Dante.
His gaze narrowed when he saw his father speaking to his wife. He could only see Alisha’s face since his father’s back was facing him—and she didn’t look happy at all.
"What’s going on here?" He asked, instinctively pulling Alisha to his side.
Mr. De Rossi noticed the gesture and his face soured for a second before he went back to smiling once again.
"I was just speaking to Alisha about our father and daughter-in-law date since we hardly have the time to chat," he said.
Obviously, he was lying and Dante didn’t believe a word that came out of his mouth.
"Well, I think I should get going now. It was nice meeting you Alisha. Let’s talk some other time. You should also consider my advice." He left while giving Dante a pat on the shoulder.
"Did he hurt you? Or say anything?" Dante immediately asked.
She shook her head.
He didn’t hurt her, at least not yet but he made it clear he would if she didn’t steer clear off his way.
She looked at Dante, deeply wondering if he was aware of the misdeeds that he’d been involved in.
She wanted to ask him, but she felt like it wouldn’t be the wisest thing to do at the moment. Dante may have saved her life several times already, but could she really trust him?
"I’m fine," she said. "Nothing happened."
Dante stared at her hard, as if he wanted to know what was going through her mind.
"I’ve told you, my father is not the type of man you should be speaking with. He may look stable but he’s anything but stable," he said, earning a frown from Alisha.
"He knows I’m Eva," she said dismissively. "Did you tell him that?"
She wasn’t worried about Mr. De Rossi finding out about her true identity at all. Their families never clashed so there was nothing much to be worried about. However, she felt he was up to no good, especially now that he knew she was stalking him.
"He researched you," he stated, not surprised at all. He’d expected his father to find out soon enough.
He sighed, his arm holding her waist even tighter this time around. "Promise me you’ll avoid him no matter what."
Alisha stared at him for a few seconds before she nodded.
Indeed, she needed to avoid him but she couldn’t. After what she’d found in his study, she was far from wanting to avoid him.
Like he said, the election was only less than a month away now. He may not even need the citizens to vote for him to win since elections were rigged most of the time.
He sounded so confident that he was going to win so she was sure the elections were going to be rigged.
But if she exposed him to everyone, would he be arrested and punished for his crimes, or would Dante help him out?
It already seemed he wasn’t in a good relationship with his father, but Alisha couldn’t hold on to that.
Realizing she was quiet for too long, she spoke up, "I’ll avoid him."
