Revenge Wears Red Lipstick
Chapter 92: More Findings
CHAPTER 92: MORE FINDINGS
He set the phone aside, his knuckles white from how hard he’d been gripping it. The call with Jaime had left him more unsettled than he wanted to admit. Jaime Lorenzo wasn’t the type of man to bluff—if he was standing his ground against the De Rossi family, it meant he had something, some kind of card tucked under his sleeve. Dante knew better than to underestimate him. A man like Jaime wouldn’t walk into a battlefield unarmed, especially when he knew exactly who his enemies were.
The weight of the decision pressed against Dante’s chest. He needed to act fast, but recklessness would only add more blood to his hands, and he was already drowning in enough of it.
Unbeknownst to Dante, the entire time he’d been in the bathroom, he didn’t notice someone had been listening to his conversation.
Alisha’s expression was grim and blank, not sure of how to react. Just when she thought that Dante wasn’t involved but it turned out he was. But his words with Jaime seemed he cared enough to tell the man to escape.
She heard Dante’s footsteps then she quickly ran to the bed and covered herself and stayed in the exact same position as she’d done earlier.
Dante came in, wrapped his arms around her and breathed in her fragrance like a hungry man. When his breath was steady on her, her eyes opened, filled with doubts and the determination to find out the truth.
Dante was in his office the next morning, reading the report that the investigator he’d hired to keep watch on Nathan.
"Nathan had gambled most of the money in the company for a greater deal, yet, he still ended up losing. From the looks of things, no one knows about it, not even his father."
Dante couldn’t help but scoff. "Does he think that he can save up the money lost through his employee’s salaries?" He couldn’t help but ask.
For years, The Cross Corporations have been doing well, too well while it was in the hands of his father. After the old man retired, handing the company down to Nathan, things had started to change.
"Not only that, but it seems that Nathan is looking for someone," said the investigator. Dante cocked up an eyebrow at him so he continued. "A man is always entering his office at least every three days. And I recognize him from my line of work. He’s also an investigator. So I believe he’s searching for something, or someone."
Dante’s eyes narrowed at this.
’Who could that bastard be searching for?’ He wondered, thinking deeply about the situation.
After Katherine’s scandal, definitely, the couple must be one string away from completely falling apart. And since the world believes that Eva went missing, could he possibly be searching...for Eva?
Dante couldn’t help but scoff at this conclusion. Nathan was never going to find her, so he didn’t need to worry himself about it.
"Continue to investigate, and find out any possible thing that you can find," he instructed and the investigator nodded and took his leave.
Rico was also about to enter the office, so he made way for the investigator, glaring at his back before facing Dante.
"You’re really serious with this Nathan guy," he said as he took a seat opposite Dante.
"He’s up to no good," he rubbed his head in frustration before focusing on Rico. "Did you also find anything useful for me this morning?" He asked Rico with so much hope in his eyes.
Rico handed the file to him. "I had to bribe someone to enter your father’s office in Unity Tower to get this document. Thankfully, they didn’t get caught."
Dante picked up the file and skimmed through it like he was hungry for words.
"This here says..." He faced Rico to be sure he was reading what he thought he was reading.
The latter nodded. "I was shocked too."
Dante read the words again—it was an agreement between his father and someone familiar, but the latter didn’t consent to it.
"My father was the one who offered Peter Gonzales the money to assassinate Greg Santos years ago," he stated.
Since his father had refused to say anything of use so he could find out the real killers of Eva’s real parents like he’d promised her he would, he decided to go extreme measures by finding things out his own way. Only for him to find out his father was the one who offered Eva’s father a large sum of money to kill his boss.
Peter Gonzales was a man of high dignity. He was just a mere bodyguard for a politician who wanted to give his family a good life.
Ten million dollars was a huge sum of money, and if he’d accepted it and killed Greg, he could fly away with his family to an unknown land and no one would be able to trace him.
Yet, he didn’t.
Dante’s mind was flooded with questions now. What if his father had killed Greg because the man refused his offer?
The question made Dante gulp down his saliva hard in an uncomfortable way.
But then, Greg Santos died not too long ago after his bodyguard died.
Dante rubbed his temple in frustration.
"Before your head will burst in flames, there’s one thing that’s on my mind," Rico cut through his thoughts, casually twirling on his braid.
Dante went silent as he looked at him.
"Why does your father still have this document? It’s been what...two decades already and he still has it stuffed right into his shelf knowing fully well that you’re suspicious of him."
Dante thought about it yet no answer could come to mind.
He was well versed with his father’s games, but the man could change his path once he felt his enemy had started predicting his ways.
So, Dante didn’t have an answer for this.
Even if Peter Gonzales agreed to the offer, there was still a high chance that his father would get rid of him so he wouldn’t be able to tell another person what he’d done, revealing his name in the end.
The man died, leaving two children behind, one he has fallen deeply in love with, and one he’s still trying to find.
"Oh, did I forget I have another file with me?" Rico said, pulling out another file from his bag Dante didn’t notice he brought in with him.
