CHAPTER 93: THOSE MEDICINES

"Oh, did I forget I have another file with me?" Rico said, pulling out another file from his bag that Dante hadn’t noticed he had brought.

Dante frowned at the file. Unlike the normal files that he’d seen, this one has the country’s symbol on it, meaning it was an official business file between governors, senators, or any other political party.

Dante opened it curiously.

"The person I bribed was quite handy, maybe I should give him a raise next time," he mumbled to himself while Dante quickly skimmed through the words.

It was an agreement between Greg and his father.

Being the governor of Lexora during his time and coming from an influential family, Greg had so many businesses and wealth that someone like his father would want to tap into.

At that time, Mr. De Rossi was merely a city council member. So in terms of power and wealth, Greg Santos was strong enough to step on anyone he wanted, even his father.

Dante’s eyebrows furrowed when he read that his father wanted a share of the mines the Santos family had acquired over the years and he would make sure that Greg won in all of his elections.

The offer was laughable because Greg didn’t need someone like Marcus to win an election since he came from a very strong background.

Obviously, that wasn’t enough reason for Greg Santos to agree with Marcus’s conditions and hand him a share of their mines just like that.

Knowing his father, this must have angered him.

"I have to say your father is a greedy man," Rico said from out of nowhere.

Dante couldn’t help but sigh.

"Tell me something I don’t know," he said.

Greg Santos was long dead now and his cause of death was a cardiac arrest. Thinking now, there was also a chance that his father was involved in his death.

"And here comes the last file for the day. You know you don’t pay me enough for this stress," Rico bit out as he pulled out another file from his bag and handed it over to Dante. "This is about Alisha’s sister."

Dante’s head was already swarming with the possibility that his father was involved in more crimes than he thought he was.

But this one was most important. Finding Alisha’s sister would make her so happy and he wanted her to be happy.

Dante opened the file and repeated the routine of skimming through it.

In his last research, his conclusion was that Keisha, Alisha’s older sister, was adopted by a wealthy family, who probably cleaned off all her traces so no one would find her.

Alisha had mentioned her sister having a scar on her face.

If his speculations were correct, then she probably had cosmetic surgery to get it off. Cosmetic surgeries are expensive, only heightening his instincts that she was indeed adopted by a rich family.

Dante could have gotten all this done by himself, but he was too busy and needed help from Rico.

The file contained wealthy families all over Lexora, starting from the middle class to high school. A few had adopted children but most of them had been sons.

"I really tried hard on that case, but it’s difficult since we don’t have a single clue on where to start from," Rico said dejectedly.

Dante closed the file and kept it aside.

"You tried your best. But we need to go deeper into this investigation. Especially on finding Eva’s sister," he said and Rico nodded.

It was only morning and Dante’s head was already throbbing with a headache.

He sighed. It was still better to do these now than to start doing them later.

Alisha was at a party she’d been invited to.

After being the face of Veila, she was officially a huge celebrity now. Maxine has become extra busy with phone calls and e-mails who wanted Alisha for their brand.

However, at the end of the day, Veila would be the one to choose whichever brand they wanted her to work with.

That situation sickened her as she stepped into the open space flooded by people of the high class. She was a high-class herself, but because of her face, no one knew her real identity, and that she was the daughter of the Montclair family.

The party was just a celebration one of the brand owners she’d collaborated with hosted to celebrate their newest collections—nothing out of the ordinary. Just someone who could spend the money he had.

Unfortunately, Maxine couldn’t come with Alisha so she was alone. Now that Maxine was becoming busier, Alisha couldn’t help but think of getting an assistant who could accompany her to events like this.

Alisha greeted the people by kissing them lightly on both cheeks, nothing extra.

Her chest still gnawed because of what she’d overheard Dante saying to Jaime Lorenzo and she hadn’t confronted him yet.

Alisha noticed that her train of thought was about to move to Dante and his conversation with Jaime, so she quickly diverted her thoughts to something else. She can’t be thinking about such a thing in there.

Feeling pressed, she excused herself and headed towards the restroom to relieve herself.

And that’s where she found Katherine, reapplying her makeup.

She didn’t see her the entire time she’d been mingling, just to find her here.

Alisha’s mood soured when Katherine grinned at her.

"Face of Veila huh? I have to say you sure know how to climb the ladder quite fast. It took me a year of hard work just to be the face of Veila and it took you what? Three months?" Katherine asked with an edge to her tone even though there was a huge smile plastered to her face.

"What can I say? Heaven sure favors me," Alisha said dismissively.

Katherine glared at her as she rummaged through her bag to find something and Alisha’s eyes quickly caught on something. A medicine, a familiar medicine.

It was the medicine she’d seen in her home one time two weeks after her third miscarriage.
