Chapter 32 POISON!
The door began to buckle at the top, it broke off its hinges. The only thing keeping the zombies from breaking in now was all the stuff piled in front of it. Soon, they’d break through and begin to consume the two people crying in fear as the man kept grabbing more things to pile while the woman pushed the pile towards the door so it wouldn’t just slide away from it.
*Bang* *bang* *bang* *bang* *bang*. With the sudden gunshots. Both the zombies and the people froze. Shortly after, they could barely hear the sound of a beatbox as it began to play ‘Poison’ by Bell Biv DeVoe. Cut to the man as he began to dance around the five zombies with holes in their heads, who were trying to make their way out of the entrance lobby.
“Poison! Poison! Poison! Girl, I must warn you!” Danny sang along as he made his way out of the water and up the stairs, carrying the boombox with him. The song had drawn most of the zombies towards it. He fought his way up the staircase as three zombies were suddenly impaled with bone spikes before the man made a set of bone-spiked brass knuckles to use.
He was still singing and dancing as he slit the throat of a zombie at the top of the first floor. “Let’s cure it cuz we’re running out of time!” Dozens of zombies were piled onto the first floor, which was the only floor without any survivors. Those unlucky enough to try to flee gave themselves away with no way to fight against the sheer numbers.
He became more of a blender, cutting through zombies as he kept walking, dancing, and singing. “It’s all so beautiful! Relationships they seem from the start!” At this point, the zombies got wise to the situation, the man was more of a monster than they were. They panicked and ran towards the staircase on the other side of the hallway. “It’s all so deadly!” Bone spikes pierced the ones furthest away in the legs, making them drop and clog up the rest of their escape.
“When love is not together from the heart!” Kicking a zombie into the rest, still charging the man, began to stomp heads as he danced, trying his best to smash the bottom half so the cores wouldn’t be broken. “It’s drivin’ me out of my mind! That’s why it’s hard for me to find!” One of the zombies was holding a wheeled bed for moving patients and charged at him. It got a bone spike through the eye, which made it collapse, dragging the bed down with him. “Can’t get it out of my head! Miss her! Kiss her! Love her!”
Zombies pop out from the room, ambushing him, as if he expected it. The man had a shotgun pulled out of nowhere and fired it into the clump of zombies. “Wrong move, you’re dead. That girl is poison!” He spun in place, dancing with a giant smile on his face as his real weapon came out. The entire time since he came back, he had been using his storage to make something. It was finally finished last night.
A giant homemade sword big enough to rival Guts’ or Cloud’s was revealed as even the zombies knew they were fucked. It wasn’t as thick or wide, but it was just as long. “Never trust a big butt and a smile, that girl is poison!” Swinging down, he severed through six different zombies, some arms, some legs, some torsos, and some heads, more mashed than sliced. “If I were you I’d take pre-caution!”
Another swing as he continued, as he cut a female zombie in half, flinging the top part into the air. “Before I start to meet a fly girl.” The zombies had given up on fighting and just ran now, they wanted to escape whatever the fucking human-looking monster was in front of them. The zombies finally reached the booby trap he laid on the other staircase before he headed up. A bomb went off, igniting the gasoline that soaked the staircase. It wasn’t enough to burn the building down, he had to save the people before he could do that. “She’ll drive you right out of your mind! Steal your heart when you’re blind! Beware she’s schemin’. She’ll make you think you’re dreamin’!”
Tossing the giant sword, he killed another twenty zombies that couldn’t get out of the way fast enough. “You’ll fall and love and then be screamin’, demon, oohhh!” He danced to the next part of the rap, grabbing a zombie by the arm and spinning it before flinging it back into the crowd. The shotgun came back out with its brother as he wielded them akimbo and rapid-fired the remaining shells in each, shredding the rest of the zombies in the hallway to pieces.
Some of their cores might have gotten destroyed in the process, but he was going to have a bunch after clearing the entire hospital. “Poison!” He stored his sword and then backtracked to the stairs. “Poison! Poison! Poison! Poison! Poison! Poison, poison, poison, poison… I forgot how long and repetitive this song was.” He reloaded the shotguns as he kept firing at the zombies who didn’t know not to fuck with him as they hadn’t seen him tear fifty apart already.
“I don’t know the next part of this song too well, so I’ll just keep dancing!” The crowd was far fewer on this floor, maybe only a dozen. Cleaving his way through as he danced, he backed up as the song kept going. “Yay, the good part! It’s drivin’ me out of my mind!” Rapidly firing the four shots, he tossed the shotguns into the air before storing them and running forward, spawning the sword. “That’s why it’s hard for me to find!” He split a zombie about halfway down the middle before the sword got stuck on a bone and wrenched the zombie to the ground. “Can’t get it out of my head!”
Another throw as he made miming motions for the next part. “Miss her, kiss her, love her! Wrong move, you’re dead! That girl is poison!” He’s about to keep walking before he sees the dead zombies trying to break into a room. That could only mean one thing. He knocked on the almost-destroyed door and yelled out. “Housekeeping… Housekeeping, you want towel!?”
The only noise was the rest of the song close to finishing before a lady yelled. “What the fuck are you talking about! Turn that shit off!” He responded. “Nah, it’s almost over. I’m gonna let it play out the rest!” He waits for the last melodic “Poison!” Before he responds. “Why yell? What a rude way to thank your savior.” The door had been ripped off enough that he could see the beautiful face looking back at him.
“Well, I don’t know about you, BUT MOST OF MY FRIENDS AND COLLEAGUES ARE DEAD! I hadn’t had anything to eat for eight hours because I was running for my life, and I spent most of the night almost getting eaten! So, maybe you could understand why I’m a little agitated.” The man pulled out a pop tart as he said. “Counterpoint, here’s a pop tart, and at least you’re alive instead of.” He gestured to the hallway of dead zombies behind him.
The lady put her hands over her mouth as she whispered. “Oh, my god… They’re all dead. You’re a murderer.” The man chuckled. “Guilty as charged, you know they’re zombies, right? Not really much in the way of coming back from that.” She looked like she was about to argue, that she was going to say they might change back or someone could make a cure, but she knew it was grasping at straws.
She had kept it together up until that point, but now that she felt safe, she mashed the pop tart into her mouth and fell on the ground before asking with her mouth full. “Got some water?” The man handed two bottles of water through the door before he asked. “So, know where anyone else is in this building, and is there anyone else in there with you?”
