CHAPTER 223: CHAPTER 223: A CALL FROM BEYOND

"It’s amazing how the food can still be so hot when it has been there for almost a month." Lu Zhen commented as he started enjoying his meal.

"It amazes me too. But I am glad that we have something so magical. At least we won’t miss the foods we used to love from our favorite restaurants.

I bought a lot of it. Whenever you want to eat anything, just let me know." Leng Pan was glad she had transmigrated or rather came back before that holy mother impostor gave away the jade bangle to the white lotus, Bai Yinyin.

If she had come a day later, she didn’t even want to imagine what would have happened. They would be having the same problems the other people in the apocalypse were having.

Talking about apocalypse problems, "Hubby, do you think we should also collect as much fuel as we can? Whether it’s gasoline like that tank we were lucky to find, firewood, or any other type of fuel that could be used to warm the house in the extreme winter.

I keep feeling like the weather will be colder than we are anticipating. We are assuming that depending on Mom’s experiences when she has those visions that the winter would be around -50° to -60° and that is what we are preparing for. But, what should we do if the temperature goes as low as -100°? Our family has ways that it could use to survive because we have several contingency plans including the constant temperature suits or the other ones made from the material we found in the mansion.

But what about other people? Humanity won’t survive if only our family is left, so, what can we do to make sure more people survive? I feel so frustrated." Leng Pan released her pent up frustrations while eating some grilled chicken and cheese burger to satisfy her craving for fast food.

She hadn’t had fast food since the meteorites fell and she was beginning to miss it very much.

Lu Zhen listened to his wife and truly, he understood where she was coming from because he also hoped that more people would survive the cold and not die before they even get a chance to switch on the heating in their houses or wear warm clothes.

He didn’t want to hurt his wife but he knew that they had to be realistic.

"Baby, we cannot save everyone but maybe we can ask Lu Tao to broadcast another message like the last time and urge other people to get as much fuel or heating equipment as they can.

Some will just think that we are crazy and ignore it, but from the number of people we saw the last few days collecting burning fuel or other things, then our plan is working.

Adding some more information will create a sense of urgency and more people will take it seriously, thus collecting more supplies and fuel." Lu Zhen advised his wife the best he thought he could or should.

Leng Pan being her husband’s biggest fan agreed with him immediately and decided to call her brother-in-law later to relay the message.

After the meal, the two took their respective motorcycles and rode into the horizon.

The rest of the journey was smooth as the two didn’t meet any more mutated animals or zombies.

It was actually quite weird that they had not seen a single zombie the whole way since they branched from the main road.

’How come this place has no sign of life at all?’ Leng Pan was wondering to herself while still riding her motorcycle at top speed.

Could it be that something happened here that made the people move away? But what could have forced people to the extent of leaving their homes?

Or, could it have something to do with where they were going? Well, they will find out when they got there.

Lu Zhen had the same questions in his mind and slowed down a little.

He didn’t want something springing out of nowhere and causing them to have an accident.

However, apart from seeing lush trees and overgrown bushes on both sides of the road, there was nothing else. The places that look like residences for people also had overgrown weeds and grass.

It was obvious that no one had lived there for a long time.

There were only some sounds of animals coming from deep in the forest that Leng Pan didn’t know how big it was.

But since there was still life there, it meant that the place was still livable.

As they passed by a particular part of the forest that seemed greener than the other places, Leng Pan felt as if something was calling her and attracting her into the forest.

She thought a demon was trying to entice her into going to her death so she tried to resist that temptation.

But as she moved forward, the urge only increased and the water ability in her body felt as if it had come alive. It stirred the same way a pit of soup is stirred and she could feel it pushing her towards the part of the forest she was trying to ignore.

Realizing that she wouldn’t be able to continue, she stopped her motorbike. Lu Zhen who was ahead of her had noticed that his wife was gradually slowing down and finally came to a stop.

He had been slowing down too to match his wife’s pace and now that she had stopped, he stopped as well.

"Baby, what is it?" He asked as he got off his bike and walked back to his wife’s side.

"I don’t know. There is something inside this forest that is like a magnet attracting me to it. I thought it was dangerous and ignored it, but my superpowers started to act weird on their own.

They practically tried to push me into the forest. So, I thought that maybe what is attracting me isn’t something dangerous but something related to me." Leng Pan mentioned.
