Rewriting My Fate in the Apocalypse
Chapter 233: Shock
CHAPTER 233: CHAPTER 233: SHOCK
Therefore, I chose to lie to her that I had sent the bangle to a master on the antique street for appraisal and hadn’t gotten it back.
Fortunately, a few days later, the apocalypse started and she couldn’t simply expect that I would risk my life to go to the antique street to search for it." Leng Pan didn’t hide the truth, but she glossed over everything too.
"Why would she insist so much about getting that bangle? Could she know about this space inside it?" Uncle Li was more thoughtful and figured out the crux of the matter immediately.
But Leng Pan wasn’t going to admit to that because then she will have to expose herself about knowing about the apocalypse in advance as well.
If that happens, more questions will follow like how she knew about it? Why didn’t she spread the news?
Such questions weren’t something she was ready to answer. Even she still didn’t understand how her soul had left her body for a few years, how she had appeared in another world, or how she had come back to her body again, and what the apocalypse had to do with all this.
To her, everything was still a fantasy. She still didn’t have the answers.
"I don’t know why she had insisted on getting her hands in the bangle. But I knew she was lying the first time she asked for it. She had claimed that her grandmother had said that the jade bangle was a part of their family heirloom set and she wanted to take it back to show her grandma.
The loophole in the story was, her grandmother hadn’t even seen the bangle yet, so, how could she know it was part of their family heirloom set?
It was such a clumsy lie that exposed itself. So, I did give it to her. I didn’t expect that I would cut my finger while cutting fruit and a drop of blood touched the bangle as I had put it aside.
I also didn’t anticipate that the next second I would find myself inside the warehouse. It was only then that I started to suspect Bai Yinyin.
I had never doubted her as a friend before, but after something like that, even a fool could tell something was up.
However, I still didn’t understand anything so I decided not to confront her, and I am glad I did.
Can you imagine if people out there found out we have a space like this? A space we could hide, a space we could store supplies without worrying about them spoiling.
It would bring a disaster to our family. That is also why we had not told you guys before. We just went around the first few days after the apocalypse collecting as many supplies as we could and storing them in the space." Leng Pan felt that she had given enough details.
"Did you start buying things and putting them in the warehouse before the apocalypse?" Uncle Li asked again.
Leng Pan and Lu Zhen looked deeply at him before replying.
They knew that he would find out the truth later because of the cooked food stored in the warehouse, so it was better to come clean earlier.
"Yes. When I found myself in the warehouse, I was shocked. I mean, I have read books about people who discover portable space and things like that and how they use them to prosper.
But I have always thought that these were fiction stories. There was no such thing as a portable space in the real world.
So when I found myself in one of those portable spaces, I thought that it was a sign that something big will either happen, or a change in the economy will take place.
Anyway, I just convinced myself that it was a sign for me to buy stuff and hoard as much as I could. Of course, this desire was mainly fueled by Bai Yinyin’s desire for the jade bangle which made me believe that she knew something.
So, I started buying things and hoarding them in the warehouse. I even went to restaurants to buy cooked food.
Anyway, let’s just say all the melodramatic plots in the many disaster and poverty novels I have read came in handy.
The more I thought about it, the more I worried, until Lu Zhen noticed and decided to help me buy supplies.
I only felt at ease when I had a lot stored. But without knowing what we were doing that for, we could only watch and see if something really happened or I was being paranoid and superstitious.
I am glad we took the gamble. Otherwise, we would be in big trouble like everyone else there." Leng Pan explained the process in detail but still decided to keep to themselves about them knowing about the apocalypse in advance.
"So, you all have to understand that this space represents the survival of our family. If it is divulged to outsiders, no matter how much you think you trust them, it could cause others who want to get their hands on it to go on a killing spree.
So, make sure once we leave this place, not a word about it should be uttered outside. Also, don’t do anything that may arouse suspicion or paint a target on Panpan’s back." Lu Zhen was more concerned about his wife’s security so he had to warn them before they got carried away by happiness and let something slip.
"We understand. Having something like this is practically heaven-defying and I don’t think many people would like others to have such a good thing when they suffer.
So, you can rest assured that even if we die, we would never expose this place." Li Yunjia quickly promised because she understood that the fact that the kids had made the choice to share this news was already beyond expectations.
Someone else would die first before sharing something so sensitive even if it was with family.
