Rewriting My Fate in the Apocalypse
Chapter 236: The Connection Between Leng Pan and the Pod
CHAPTER 236: CHAPTER 236: THE CONNECTION BETWEEN LENG PAN AND THE POD
Leng Pan blinked. "React?"
"Yeah," Uncle Li said firmly, pointing at the pod. "Take a look."
Everyone had been focusing on Uncle Li as he told the story, now they turned back to look at the pod and behold, the faint glow that had been on the purplish veins of the creature inside the pod had become a bit brighter.
Moreover, it pulsed following the same rhythm as Leng Pan’s heartbeat. It was as if they were connected in some way.
Moreover, Lu Zhen could feel the pendant he was wearing on his neck heat a little. So, the thing in the pod wasn’t just reacting to Leng Pan, but to him as well, or at least, his pendant.
Leng Pan hurriedly withdrew her hand, and the glow dimmed. Her mouth went dry in an instant.
Li Han’s eyes narrowed. "It somehow recognizes you for some reason."
"That’s impossible," Leng Pan whispered. But the evidence was undeniable.
However, she had never had any interaction with the people who created this thing. Why would it react to her?
Lu Zhen put an arm around her shoulders to comfort her. "Whether it’s possible or not, it happened. Which means we can’t ignore this connection. It could be nothing, but it could also be dangerous." He said with a serious expression.
Anything that concerned his wife could never be ignored. He had to get to the bottom of this.
Li Yunjia’s face went pale. "Then... does that mean Panpan isn’t human? Or that..."
"Enough." Lu Zhen’s voice cracked like a whip, silencing the room. His expression turned icy.
"She is my wife. Human or not, nothing changes that. Moreover, you’ve known her since she was a child. You knew her parents. Did they look like they didn’t give birth to a human?" He took a deep breath after lashing out and lowered his voice.
"Since we have the creature here and also the data we took from the secret chamber, Lu Tao can decipher it and help us find out what this is and what its connection with Panpan is." Lu Zhen continued slowly but authoritatively.
He wasn’t giving anyone a chance to doubt his decision.
Leng Pan took a shaky breath, grateful for the unwavering support her husband provided. Still, she couldn’t shake the unease in her heart.
It was gnawing on her like a dog gnawing on a bone. However, she knew that worrying wouldn’t help. But she still had this nagging feeling that this had something to do with her as Commander Leng in the past.
Lu Zhen’s mother calmed down after being yelled at by her son. She reached out to Leng Pan and took her hand in hers. She squeezed her daughter-in-law’s hand and comforted, "Whatever this means, you are still family. And I am sorry for overreacting. We will stick together through thick and thin to solve this mystery and continue to survive." She said gently.
"Thanks Mom, I know." Of course Leng Pan knew that her mother-in-law had only said those things out of shock. She didn’t mean any harm, so she also didn’t take it to heart.
Uncle Li stood straighter with a sigh. "Then we have no choice but to accept the truth. This apocalypse was not random. Someone’s hands are behind it, and they may reach deeper than we imagined.
So, we have to find a way to counter whatever they are doing. I don’t think they have achieved their goal and become idle."
Everyone agreed that what Uncle Li said was the truth. So, they had to become even stronger.
The pod on the conference table continued to hum softly, its occupant dreaming in silence, unaware that its very existence had shattered the fragile peace of one small family.
And the truths of the apocalypse were only beginning to surface.
Lu Zhen turned to his younger brother who had been quiet all this time and instructed.
"Lu Tao, things have become more complicated and we can’t risk the data we found leaking. We don’t know if there are other people like you out there who could hack into your gadgets without your knowledge and steal information.
So, I suggest you conduct your research here. Those outside have no way of tracking anything that has entered this space.
You can take your devices and set up a workstation in the living room." As Lu Zhen finished speaking, a voice was heard within the room.
"Commander Lu, there is a study next to the conference room. He can set up his workstation there." It was Zee who had finally come out to help.
When the newcomers heard the voice, they nearly jumped. After all, they hadn’t noticed anyone else there. How come now there were other voices?
"Thank you Zee." Lu Zhen expressed his gratitude and turned to Leng Pan to let her show them to the study.
After all, even though they were husband and wife, the space still belonged to Leng Pan and she had the right to entertain her guests.
Leng Pan understood her husband and started walking towards the door of the conference room. The others led by Lu Zhen followed behind.
"Who was that?" Unable to contain his curiosity, Lu Tao asked the question that was in everyone else’s mind.
"It’s an AI that runs this place. Don’t worry about it, it’s harmless." Leng Pan replied.
They had already walked outside the conference room to the corridor and turned right. Another door to a room that they hadn’t explored before was a jar and Leng Pan went forward and pushed.
Inside was an elegant study room with the walls lined with bookshelves filled with real books.
The study was not proportional to its image as seen from the outside. The study was almost five hundred square meters but from the outside, even the whole mansion didn’t seem that big.
She had no idea how the creators of this place could have built something so incredible. Something that relates to space laws must have been used.
