CHAPTER 246: CHAPTER 246: EAVESDROPPING

The family went to the study and rewinded the recording to listen to what was said from the beginning.

Listening as Commander Qui ordered them to be more thorough and make sure that whoever had the meteorite didn’t leave with it and if they had to kill everyone to find it then they should not hesitate, Leng Pan nearly went mad with anger.

The people there just agreed to whatever they were told but one could feel the reluctance in Blaze’s tone. But it looked like the commander didn’t care at all.

After listening to the whole recording, both Leng Pan and Lu Zhen seemed to have been enlightened by something.

They looked at each other and said in unison,

"It’s him!"

The others looked at the two without understanding what was happening or what they were talking about, but they didn’t ask when they saw the solemn expressions on their faces.

Lu Tao on the other hand was busy using his recently enhanced hearing ability to search for those people. They said that they were in an apartment within the same community as them so it was easy for him to find them.

He located them within three minutes and focused all his attention on listening to them. He found out that there were five people in that apartment, all of them men. All seem to be trained soldiers and from their conversation, he found out that they had been trying to find his brother and sister-in-law for weeks.

He also realized that they were starting to wonder why the meteorite was so important that the commander would issue such a cruel order as to hurt the citizens just to secure it.

One of the soldiers whom he heard the others call Raze seemed to have no problem with that directive, even though he was trying hard to curb something that seemed to be driving him to want more power.

After a heated argument among themselves, some went to their rooms while two people, one who Lu Tao learned his name was Silk and the other one was Vortex, who apparently was the one who located this place remained seated.

They were quiet for a while and Lu Tao thought that they wouldn’t speak so he was about to withdraw his ability when suddenly Silk spoke softly.

" Don’t you think something is wrong with this mission?"

"You have noticed too?" Vortex asked warily.

"Mmm...I think something is wrong with the commander. His obsession with the meteorite doesn’t seem simple. And that meteorite doesn’t seem to be a tool to just advance our superpowers. Something is wrong somewhere and I can’t put my finger on it." Silk finally said his doubts.

"I have been thinking the same. My desire to find that rock has waned because I keep feeling as if once we find it, something terrible will happen.

I know we are soldiers and we should obey orders from above, but if our actions are going to hurt the country and the people, then I would rather be punished." Vortex also said his piece which was more than what Silk had expected.

It looked like he wasn’t the only one who had realized that their Commander had a huge problem.

"I wish we understood what is going on, then we would be able to make a sound decision. It’s the apocalypse anyway and even if we get fired, it doesn’t matter that much." Silk sighed with frustration.

Once Lu Tao deemed that he had gotten the important information, he withdrew his superpower and told his family that there was something important to talk about.

Leng Pan didn’t want to take them into the space which might cause a void-pulse and expose their exact location.

So, she and Lu Zhen created a vacuum around the study room by freezing the air on the outside and cooling the air inside. The center remained empty, thus making sure that no one could hear them even if they had superpowers like Lu Tao.

After Lu Tao told everyone everything they had heard, they now knew where to infiltrate the dominion from.

Leng Pan and Lu Zhen looked at each other and excused themselves.

They went back to their apartment to talk and only then did they start talking about Commander Qui.

They did the same thing they did in the study to create a vacuum to avoid eavesdropping.

"That should be the leader of the traitors. He was the first one to take other humans to join the aliens and turned against those of their own kind.

From the fact that those soldiers gained abilities through experiments even before the apocalypse started shows that he had regained his memories long ago.

He should be one of those mentioned by that silhouette in the light sphere inside the space bangle that time. The people who had awakened their memories." Leng Pan was seething inside when she remembered how many humans had died because that Commander Qui wanted to gain power.

He had joined aliens and zombies in seizing natural resources from humans and eventually forced all the survivors to be crammed in one city.

Now that she had heard that unpleasant voice again, she just wanted to find him and kill him right away to avoid future trouble.

"I didn’t expect him to survive too. But how did he get reincarnated here? Did he also stow away in the city when you ordered it to be sealed?" Lu Zhen wondered out loud when he thought about this problem.

"If that’s the case, then that means that someone we trusted must have let him in. That also means that among the people we thought were on our side were still traitors.

Therefore, this time we have to be more than careful. We can’t let something like that happen again because I don’t think we will get another chance to save humanity." Leng Pan was shocked to think that among the people she thought she could trust with her back, there was still a traitor.

A chill suddenly ran down her spine and she shivered.
