CHAPTER 282: CHAPTER 282: GREED FOR POWER

"Princess, the last attempt failed and the test subjects escaped. I haven’t been able to locate them and the thing you gave me to track them isn’t working because they burned everything before leaving.

I have no way to acquire their DNA and track them. Do you have any suggestions?" Commander Qui humbled himself to ask for advice from this princess of the aliens.

"It’s better to keep a low profile for a while. Don’t rush and end up ruining our plans. It will be bad if the other humans who are not affiliated to us find out that there was more than the zombies.

Today, I also saw Commander Lu from the past. He was alone and looked like he was hunting zombies.

So, we can at least assume that he hasn’t gotten involved yet and doesn’t remember the past.

Don’t show up in front of him in case you trigger his memories. It won’t be too late to engage in war with them once we have succeeded." The princess had an authoritative voice that didn’t allow for second guessing.

Commander Qui always thought that once he was the highest ranking human remaining in the world, he could rule the human race like a king.

Not like the current situation where every country was still divided even with the Zombie virus ravaging them.

He could imagine himself standing at the top of the world like a king after the aliens bring them to their knees.

It was actually surprising that a smart man like him was blinded by the prospect of power that he failed to understand that if humanity was brought to its knees by the aliens, then he would only be the king of slaves.

In that case, he would be the biggest slave leading other slaves in their own backyard while the aliens lived the real life of kings.

However, even if someone advised him, he wouldn’t listen because he was already bewitched by the dream the aliens had sold him.

Therefore, even now, he listened attentively to everything the princess said and agreed to do what she instructed.

"Alright, Princess, I will keep a low profile for now while I mark the people who fulfill the criteria for new experimental subjects.

The new safe base has received a lot of new members and there are a good number of superpower users.

Most of them have formed teams to go out and hunt zombies and supplies. It might be difficult to catch them but we will find a way." Commander Qui had no qualms about selling his own people for experiments.

"You find a solution for that. It is such an easy thing to do. If you need any more drugs to activate their superpowers and continue researching how to extract them then just ask." The princess said while sipping her dirty slime.

"Okay Princess, I will take my leave then." Commander Qui, seeing that the alien didn’t have more to say, stood up and left.

The entrance was the same and the ceiling moved and he walked out and appeared in the abandoned factory.

He walked away without looking back as he also thought about how to continue with those experiments.

Since the princess had asked him to keep a low profile, he could only keep a low profile.

That princess wasn’t a good person and if she was angered, she didn’t flinch when she was killed.

She also didn’t entertain failure and it was only because they were in a mutually beneficial relationship that she didn’t lash out at him.

As it turned out, the aliens were the ones supplying him with the drug he had given to the researchers for research that helped to multiply the advancement of superpowers.

Seeing this way, the aliens had indeed been on earth since the apocalypse started.

Back in the underground base, the monster who had been with the ’princess’ outside joined her where she was and took the seat Commander Qui had been sitting on.

"Princess, what do you think is happening now?" That monster asked as another monster that acted like a servant brought another glass filled with a drink...well, dirty slime.

"He won’t play tricks. He is too greedy for power to play tricks. He wants the plan to succeed more than we do, so we can leave everything to him." The princess indeed knew Commander Qui’s weakness.

That man was too greedy for power and would do anything to achieve his goals even if he had to sell his own mother.

"That’s actually what worries me. He is too greedy for power and to get quick results. I am afraid he will do something reckless and ruin our plans." The monster said.

"Even though he might be tempted to do that, he won’t do it.

He has been searching for a catalyst core all this time, which might allow him to really rush his plans of gaining power, but as long as that meteorite stays out of his reach, he will never be able to break free from our control." The princess was calm as she analyzed everything.

That monster thought about it and felt that her princess was right.

"But it’s good that we have people like him who are easy to control by offering them some alms. In this way even if you turn them into your slaves, they will still thank you." The monster lady sighed.

Anyone would think they were human the way they were talking and sighing.

It was a pity that any normal human who saw their ugly appearances would probably vomit at their sight.

Not many would be like Commander Qui who could still smile and try to please them at their sight.

Lu Zhen went back home after discussing a few things with the team.

Shade was running in a carefree manner on the snow-covered streets.

Zombies would appear in groups or small hordes from time to time and he would stop to kill them.

In fact, as Lu Zhen went home, he was more attentive this time as he hunted and killed zombies and came to a realization.

The zombies were changing. Now, it wasn’t easy to see a zombie walking around alone.

They were constantly in groups as if they had planned it. Moreover, their attacks were becoming somewhat organized.

Unlike before when the zombies seemed to have only one goal, to eat, now they were like trained soldiers. They seemed more focused on killing any human they saw before eating them.

As Lu Zhen rounded a corner on the last stretch before going back to their estate, he witnessed a scene that confirmed his thoughts about things changing.

A group of zombies had surrounded three people and even though those people had fought with their lives, they still lost and were scratched, or had parts of their bodies torn by the zombies.

In any case, they had wounds of various degrees and even without fatal injuries, they started to collapse to the ground.

The group of zombies pounced on two of them and started to tear their flesh and stuff it into their mouths while they were still breathing but unable to even move.

It was as if the wounds caused by the zombies somehow made them immobile.

All they could do was scream. However, the person who hadn’t been eaten yet began acting weird.

He was a skinny man dressed in many layers of clothes. They should be the people who probably had nothing left at home and had braved the cold to look for something to eat and keep warm.

They never expected that they wouldn’t be able to make it back. As Lu Zhen was wondering if these were people like them who refused to go to a safe base or if they were a group of people who came out of the base, a shocking scene happened.

That remaining man started to crack his bones and his posture changed and his muscles seemed to become stiff.

Soon, he got up from the ground but instead of running for his life, he joined the zombies in feasting on his two companions.

It was only then that Lu Zhen realized that the man had become a zombie too. He didn’t even need to die to become a zombie.

He had turned into a zombie while still alive and it was only from getting scratched by a zombie.

Now it seemed that humans didn’t even have that incubation window where the virus would take effect slowly and a person could be scratched and not mutate for a few days.

This didn’t seem to be the case now. A normal human would turn into a zombie a few minutes after getting scratched.

After seeing what was happening and watching for a while, Lu Zhen formed fire needles and shot them towards those zombies.

Every needle shot into the heads of each zombie, including the newly mutated one and watched as they burned.

He didn’t even go to retrieve the crystal cores as he climbed on the back of Shade and went home.
