CHAPTER 301: CHAPTER 301: MODIFIED ZOMBIES

It was obvious from the way the zombies fought that something in them had changed.

Moreover, they weren’t fighting like mindless flesh-eating monsters without independent thoughts.

They were more like trained and enhanced war machines. Only, these machines were still in the works because sometimes parts of their bodies would become uncoordinated.

It was as if a robot was being controlled part by part but some parts refused to coordinate well, which revealed weaknesses that could be exploited.

The zombies seemed as if they weren’t affected by the cold that made the limbs of the others stiff. They were like well-oiled machines that had no trouble with movement except for the coordination problem.

This meant that the zombies moved faster than the others and also held a higher chance of injuring humans.

If the whole situation was taken into context, if the zombies became faster and more organized in their attacks, then the chances of humans getting hurt would increase.

This also meant that the number of people becoming infected with the zombie virus would increase, therefore, increasing the number of zombies while the human population continued to dwindle.

This was a clever plan and what made it unbearable was the fact that it could actually have been implemented by humans.

People like Commander Qui who were using other humans as experimental subjects to extract superpowers or do some other heinous crimes like creating more advanced zombies only made the fight to reclaim the planet more difficult and complicated.

As Leng Pan thought of this, she remembered the prototype of either a zombie or some other creature still lying inside a pod in the conference room of the mansion inside the bangle space.

She still didn’t understand what it was and she had not killed it because she thought that it might be useful in the future.

She hadn’t checked on it for a while and now that she was reminded of it, she decided to visit that evening and see how it was doing.

If it could be used as an asset in their fight, then that would be great.

After the team had killed all the zombies surrounding them, they collected the crystal cores and it was then that Juan Ke, who was always mature and observant, realized that they looked a little different from normal crystal cores.

They were a little bigger and shinier. They also seemed to contain some kind of a liquid inside that gave the crystal cores a glow.

Leng Pan was not sure whether they were safe to use so she suggested taking them home with her and using her specially produced water which had some purifying effect to soak them in and remove any unwanted impurities.

Of course she was going to soak the crystal cores in spiritual spring water, but she couldn’t tell anyone about that.

Her teammates had seen her create a mist that made zombies afraid. So, they assumed that it was that mist that had a purifying effect and she had no plans of correcting them.

Thus, all the crystal cores from the zombies they had killed that day were all given to Leng Pan to take home and purify.

The team then decided that the training for that day was done, mostly because most of them except for Lu Zhen and Leng Pan had almost exhausted their superpowers completely.

They needed to go home and recharge through meditation and absorption of crystal cores.

Leng Pan thought that she needed to find a way to provide spiritual spring water to her teammates to help them recover their spiritual energy faster without needing to absorb crystal cores while still in the battlefield fighting those dangerous monsters.

This was especially so for when fighting the aliens who could blend with humans.

The group didn’t linger any longer and started on their journey back home.

Since they were following the same route, there weren’t many zombies on the way back and most of the sporadic ones were taken care of by Leng Pan and Lu Zhen.

The others had at least a bag filled with supplies and could no longer fight.

Thus, it was the turn of the most powerful ones to protect the weaker teammates.

They split when they reached either within the community where Silk and his two comrades went into the building they lived in while the others headed to their building and parted ways as they entered their respective apartments.

On the upper floors, Assistant Yao and his mother also said goodbye to the Lu family and continued to climb the stairs while the members of the Lu family entered the usual apartment where they had their meals and held meetings.

Uncle Li made a beeline for the kitchen as soon as he walked through the door and took off his snow-covered clothes.

He went to make ginger tea to heat everyone up before the others sat down to talk.

"Alright, spill it, what did you hear?" Leng Pan asked immediately after she sat down.

She was looking directly at Lu Tao who felt as if he was sitting in a court chamber undergoing a trial.

He knew that was only his imagination as his sister-in-law wanted to know what that group of people they had met said, but it still creeped him out.

"Those people are on a mission to find you and big brother. They didn’t say why they were for you guys and only gossiped about how powerful and ruthless big brother is.

They also said that they were going to tell their boss that they had found my brother.

They didn’t seem to know that the other person was you.

Nevertheless, they were specifically searching for Commander Leng and Commander Lu." Lu Tao didn’t dare to dwindle and immediately spilled the beans.

"So, you didn’t manage to find out whether they were friends or foes?" Leng Pan asked curiously.

"No, but from their reaction, it didn’t seem like they were enemies. But that is just the reaction of the underlings sent to search for you guys. We don’t know how the boss would react or why he is searching for you." Lu Tao was straightforward about everything that had happened.

It was better to say everything clearly and let his brother and sister-in-law make their own judgement.
