CHAPTER 315: CHAPTER 315: GOING BACK HOME

The group made their way home slowly and Lu Zhen had no choice but to walk in front and melt the snow as they walked to create a path.

Leng Pan thought whether this might attract attention and cause people to find their base and attack them, but when she looked behind and found that the place they had just walked through already had a thin layer of snow.

It was obvious that within a few hours, the path they had just created would be gone and covered in snow once more.

Thus, she didn’t bother reminding Lu Zhen not to melt the snow near their community.

However, she still thought about the group of people they had met when they had gone out some days ago.

Lu Tao had said that they were searching for them and their boss had tasked them with looking for Commander Leng and Commander Lu.

She wondered whether they had eventually figured out their identities and had reported to their boss.

She hoped that the person looking for them was an ally and not an enemy.

When they got to their community, they found that the gate was almost blocked by snow.

Just like how they had walked to this point, Lu Zhen melted all the snow in front of the gate and the heat also melted the snow inside the gate, allowing them to open the gate and walk inside.

Inside, the compound was a sheet of white where one had to struggle through the snow with every step.

Because Vortex and his partners lived in a different building, they had to walk through the snow. Unlike the others who simply followed Lu Zhen back to their building.

Inside the building wasn’t much different from the outside. However, instead of snow piling up inside, ice had coated everything.

Walking on the stairs was equivalent to seeking death as there was ice everywhere and stepping on it would probably lead to accidents.

Again, Lu Zhen’s ability came in handy as he melted the ice and dried the stairway.

The others followed behind to their apartments where they finally parted.

When the Lu family entered their apartment, they were hit by a wave of heat and it was only then that they remembered that they had left the heating in the house on.

Luckily, Leng Pan had a lot of gasoline in her space bangle and wouldn’t run out because she left the generator on for days during the extreme cold.

Nevertheless, it was good to feel the warmth of home again even if it cost an arm and a leg.

Leng Pan wanted to take out the stone so it could work its magic and reinforce the building they were living in.

If the building could become indestructible, then they wouldn’t have to worry about attacks from the aliens or traitors of the human race.

When Li Yunjia saw her looking around, she asked what was happening.

"I am trying to find the right spot for that stone so that it can help us while we meditate and also reinforce this building." Leng Pan explained as she looked around thoughtfully.

"Why not find a spot near the door? It’s close enough to your apartment although I think it distributes the energy at the same rate on the same floor.

But just in case, put it near the door where it’s close to you. I hope it won’t take long to reinforce this building." Li Yunjia suggested.

"You are right Mom. If it’s near to us, then it can still be used easily across the walls." Leng Pan didn’t have a reason to reject her mother-in-law’s idea and immediately walked to stand near the door to look for a good hiding spot.

There was a wooden box next to the show rack close to the door. Leng Pan opened it and found that it was filled with pairs of socks.

Thus, she took out the socks and put the stone inside before locking the box.

With the stone in the building, they didn’t have to worry about not improving.

This was the first time the family had been home in so many days and the thing they missed the most was Uncle Li’s cooking.

Hence, Uncle Li went straight to the kitchen after changing out of his snow-covered clothes.

Soon, the aroma of food filled the house and some people’s stomachs started growling.

Uncle Li was done cooking in less than an hour.

On the table, several dishes including bone broth were served.

This one meal made the Lu family feel as if they had been reborn. Eating instant meals for the last three days after getting used to the sumptuous meals made by Uncle Li was challenging.

After the meal, the family sat in the living room with a cup of tea or hot chocolate in hand.

"How much has your superpowers increased?" Leng Pan asked no one in particular.

"Mine increased a lot. I can now see clearly through the walls unlike before when I only saw silhouettes based on heat signatures.

I can also hear insects flying at a long distance.

Now I can even eavesdrop on a conversation outside the community." Lu Tao was the first to start bragging.

"That’s great. With your ability improving, we have a better chance of spying on our enemies and making plans based on their own plans.

This is better than planting bugs in their territory as you won’t be discovered easily." Leng Pan thought that if they had someone with a superpower like Lu Tao in the last apocalypse, they might have had a chance to win the war.

"Mmm...his ability is unique, which is also why it should be kept a secret.

It will be our secret weapon. So the less people know the better." Lu Zhen was very agreeable with his wife.

"What about you auntie? How is your wood superpower?" Leng Pan turned to auntie Li to ask.

She hoped that her auntie’s ability had increased by a significant amount because it was too useful, not just for food, but also as a weapon for offense and defense.
