Riley Ross
Chapter 166: Let’s Do It
CHAPTER 166: CHAPTER 166: LET’S DO IT
Prophet trusts Bernard more than himself—and the two have never lied to each other, not even once, no matter how helpful or white it could’ve been. And so, when he told him that Riley wasn’t Darkday, that was that. He removed the thought from his mind and just completely chalked it up to a weird, highly coincidental coincidence.
There was also the chance that Riley truly was Darkday, and that Bernard just didn’t know.
But the chance of Bernard not knowing something was lower than a meteorite landing on top of his head right now.
But of course, it was also never zero. What if, just what if...
Riley was truly Darkday, and Bernard just didn’t know?
Because Lisa tripping out of nowhere while she was handing Bernard coffee was... a little weird. But then again, if he was going to say that Riley tripped her using telekinesis, why didn’t he just suspect Lisa of also being Darkday?
Riley was also helping Diana when it happened, and he hasn’t even once glanced in their direction.
Granted, from everything the bureau knew of Riley now, he might be more than capable of that feat.
Everything he had on the boy was circumstantial at best.
And there was also that one single fact.
Riley was just a boy.
Before thinking about whether he could do it, he should be thinking about why he would even be doing it.
He had known the kid even before he was able to speak his first words. And throughout that, he hadn’t shown himself to have any evil or violent bone in his body.
He was sweet, despite his condition.
A child of routine—would he really change just because he had awakened his abilities? He didn’t seem the type to. He—
"Uncle, hello? Pass me garlic!"
"Hannah! Don’t talk like that to your uncle!"
"He’s the one that’s not responding!"
"Who’s."
"Huh?"
"He’s the one who’s not responding."
"Ack. No one cares, Mom!"
Prophet blinked, realizing that he had been zoned out the entire time. He gazed down, and he hadn’t even touched his breakfast at all.
"See?! He’s still not responding. I think he has dementia now!"
"Don’t be rude! But... that’s true. Are you... okay, Prophet?"
Prophet glanced at Hannah at first, and then at Diana. And although it was Hannah who said that he might have dementia, it was Diana who looked like she was actually thinking that.
With good reason, of course. He just realized he still hadn’t spoken and was just staring at them.
"Oh..." Prophet finally opened his mouth, blinking several more times before he waved them off and chuckled.
"Sorry, I was just thinking of the website," he said, handing the fried garlic to Hannah with a smile on his face. "I know I shouldn’t, but... a website? Sorry, we shouldn’t even be discussing this at all, especially at the table."
"I mean, this is your table, honey..." Tanisha smiled. "And if it’s bothering you that much, just say what’s on your mind. I know it’s bothering me, too. How can evil be so... brazen?"
"That’s true..." Lisa joined in, fully embracing the country’s culture by using her bare hands to eat her rice and fish. "A website. Has any other villain done that before?"
"Is... he really a villain?" Ed whispered to his wife, and he was immediately met by her covering his mouth with a mouthful of rice. Lisa then glared at her and then subtly glanced at Tomoe.
"Sh—I’m sorry, Tomoe."
Tomoe, who was just casually eating her food, was slightly surprised by being addressed out of nowhere. She returned Ed’s stares and then shook her head and sighed.
"It’s... quite okay, Mr. Cain. I’d prefer it if you don’t walk on eggshells around me. Despite what I look like, I’m not really... a child anymore. You can talk about Darkday in front of me. In fact, I’d prefer it."
"Oh..." Ed awkwardly chuckled, slightly taken aback by Tomoe’s straightforwardness.
"Since you said that, can I ask you a question?" Lorraine joined in on the conversation, sliding her chair closer to the table and slightly leaning forward. "Has... Darkday ever approached you? Maybe—"
"Mother!" Gracey lightly slammed the table. "Why are you even asking her that? What the—"
"Okay. Let’s have some fucking dessert!"
Before the situation could get any worse, the sound of Hannah’s chair screeching in the air filled everyone’s ears.
"I bought a local ice cream tub yesterday. Everyone should try it."
And while the atmosphere around the table was slowly turning sour, the one who was responsible for it all was casually eating without a care in the world.
And like Lisa, he was using his bare hands to eat.
V also didn’t care much about what everyone else was discussing, and was instead curious about how Riley was eating. She looked at the utensils in her hands and then back at Riley.
"You’re... using your hands to eat?" she asked.
Riley only glanced at her and continued scooping the rice with his hand.
"I believe it would be weird to use my feet to eat, V."
"That... that’s not what I meant." V giggled. She then placed her spoon and fork on her plate. "Is it... hard? Can you teach me? Do I just... scoop the rice?"
"You should wash your hands first, V."
"R-right."
The breakfast soon ended the way it started, awkwardly. But of course, that tense atmosphere didn’t really last long, as the adults started bringing out the alcohol once more and leaving the children completely unattended.
This time, however, the Baby Crew decided to just stay close to the house. After all, the Dark Millennium might still be lurking around.
"What the fuck is even happening in this world?"
But of course, even they couldn’t stave off what was happening around them. None of them were even playing in the water, and were just staying under the sun and looking at the bright blue ocean in front of them.
"The Dark Millennium, and now this Darkday dude making a website? Like... what the fuck?"
Hannah glanced back at the rest of the Baby Crew.
"I swear, these two are related. There’s no way they’re not. Both literally have the word ’dark’ in their names!"
"God, you too?" Gracey rolled her eyes. "Can’t we just relax? I want to go for a swim now! Look, the water’s calling us!"
She said that, and yet she wasn’t moving from her spot at all.
"And what’s the big deal with them, anyway?" Gracey scoffed. "Look at what we did with one of them yesterday. You know what I think? We can take them if we have prep time. What do you guys think?"
"I feel you, G." Bella nodded. "They ain’t that tough. We have some heavy hitters here."
"I don’t really want to agree, but... I think so too?" Pauline rolled her hand into a fist. "If... if we had prep time. But, of course, we need to know what their ranks are composed of."
"It’s a bit reckless to say...." V nodded. "...But I agree, too."
"Then let’s do it."
"Huh?"
Everyone turned to look at Hannah, squinting as the sun lined her silhouette.
"What do you mean ’let’s do it’?" Gracey raised an eyebrow.
"Let’s fucking get these Dark Millennium motherfuckers. Let’s get this Darkday shit too." Hannah extended her hand forward. "The authorities aren’t doing anything. You heard what my uncle said—the government asked him to stop investigating Darkday, and the Dark Millennium’s just one of the fucking dozen villain organization groups out there. And since they’re new, they’re probably at the bottom of the list of the Super Police."
Hannah pointed down.
"We might have only been in the Academy for like a month, but that’s our fucking home," she said while gritting her teeth. "And no one should be allowed to attack us in our fucking home. So, I say, we take the fight to them."
"You mean, girl...?" Bella raised an eyebrow. "You wanna go ahead and fight these villains? You not right in the head."
"Well, who is?" Hannah scoffed. "We have everything we need under the basement of our house. We can plan everything there."
"Wait... you serious?"
"Why wouldn’t I be?" Hannah looked each of the members of the Baby Crew in the eyes. "Let’s fuck these people up in their own turf. Tomoe, you know your way around computers, right? You think you’ll be able to pinpoint their location?"
"No," Tomoe answered without any hesitation. "But I can try to trace the general area of where they could be."
"Great. That’s what I like to hear. So..." Hannah opened her palm. "I’m serious. Once we go back home, stay in the house for a bit. We’ll plan how to take these motherfuckers down. So...
...who’s with me?"
Of course, Riley was the first to place his hand on Hannah’s. But the siblings weren’t alone for long, as the rest of the Baby Crew soon followed.
"That settles it, then," Hannah smirked.
"Let’s take Dark Millennium and Darkday down!"
Well, I agree with us taking down Dark Millennium, Sister. It would be fun—but Darkday? Hmm. I am afraid that if it comes down to it...
...I will not hesitate to kill your friends, Sister.
