CHAPTER 37: UNDEAD KING’S POWER

Just as Selena climbed onto Simba’s back, the Undead King suddenly noticed them.

He immediately pointed his staff at them and unleashed dark spirits capable of possessing bodies and melting flesh.

Liam didn’t dare underestimate these spirits—they gave him a strong sense of danger.

He instantly transformed his right hand into an angel’s hand and converted a large amount of Mana into light.

Whoosh!

He sent the light in a wave form.

As long as he imagined a shape, the light would form accordingly—exactly as he pictured it.

Buzz! Buzz!

The wave of light collided with the dark spirits. There was no sound, only a mutual erasure, as if both forces were trying to consume each other.

Thankfully, Liam’s light was superior, easily devouring the dark spirits and erasing them. The remaining light continued toward the Undead King.

The latter quickly summoned a wall of darkness in front of him, seemingly sensing the light as a real threat.

Buzz!

The light struck the dark wall, but the wall was incredibly strong. The light only managed to pierce halfway before fading out due to energy depletion.

However, a new wave of light appeared and struck the dark wall again, finally punching a hole through it.

The remaining light shot through the hole, hitting the Undead King—but it was too small and was instantly erased.

Immediately afterward, another wave of light appeared, aiming to engulf the Undead King, who now looked startled and confused because he hadn’t seen Liam attack again.

Whoosh!

He hastily released a wave of darkness that could erase everything—but darkness always falls before light.

The dark wave was erased shortly after making contact with the light wave, while the light only lost half its strength.

Even so, the Undead King quickly flew to dodge the incoming light wave.

The light couldn’t pursue him and disappeared—but then another wave of light appeared right above the Undead King’s head.

This time, he couldn’t escape.

The light engulfed him, erasing his dark robe and eating away at his body made of dark bones.

But it wasn’t that easy—his bones were like the source of darkness themselves.

They emitted darkness endlessly to resist the light.

Eventually, the light wave faded away, but another one quickly took its place and swallowed the Undead King again.

Even Liam was stunned by this scene, let alone anyone else.

"Let’s get out of here!" he said, patting Simba’s back.

The giant cat immediately leapt across the street in one bound, almost throwing Selena off due to the jolt.

Liam couldn’t worry about the Undead King now—he couldn’t die anyway.

Until he figured out its weakness, there was no point fighting him over and over.

Maybe the Undead King only appeared to further throw the apocalypse into chaos.

While the Undead King was being relentlessly bombarded by light waves, the surrounding undead suddenly began moving erratically. Some even slammed into nearby buildings.

It seemed the Undead King had lost control over them because he was too occupied.

The students who were previously struggling to escape finally managed to break free from the relentless undead attackers.

However, Liam’s escape wasn’t as simple.

Suddenly, he noticed many black bones in the air raining down on him like a torrential downpour.

Though the bones weren’t spear-shaped, their sharp ends could easily pierce his and Simba’s bodies.

And Simba didn’t have time to dodge them—they were too fast.

Liam had to create a strong defense.

His right hand transformed into a stone dragon’s hand.

Rumble!

He manipulated the road’s stones, forming a massive wall overhead.

Clang! Clang! Clang!

The bones might not have been sharp enough to pierce the stone wall, but their endless strikes pushed it downward.

Liam, controlling the wall, found it getting unbearably heavy.

He glanced at the Undead King.

Despite being assaulted by endless waves of light, he still pointed his staff at Liam.

Liam then realized the bones continued to rain down, as if they were limitless—or perhaps the Undead King’s Mana reserve was simply enormous, allowing him to attack without pause.

With the advantage of immortality, the Undead King’s power was likely fully invested in Mana rather than other attributes.

All he needed to do was attack and defend using his Mana. If he couldn’t defend, he could simply rely on his undying nature.

"This is the wrong approach," Liam muttered.

He changed his hand again, this time into an ice dragon’s hand.

Of course, as soon as the stone dragon hand vanished, the stone wall began to fall.

But before it could hit him, his ice dragon hand released a massive amount of freezing air, freezing everything above him.

The stone wall and the bones froze mid-air along with the space itself, preventing them from falling.

Liam had only guessed this was possible—but with enough Mana, he could indeed freeze space.

"Hurry!" he shouted, patting Simba again.

Whoosh!

The big cat dashed through the bypass road toward the school, while Milo moved effortlessly in shadow form.

"Alex, jump!" Liam called out when he spotted him.

Luckily, Alex could jump quite high—even though he landed on Simba’s tail.

He climbed up by grabbing Simba’s fur, making the cat’s eyes bulge in annoyance.

When Alex finally reached Simba’s back, the cat glanced at him, clearly irritated.

Right after that, Lisa—who had been flying—landed on Simba’s back as well.

She stared at Selena, looking surprised.

Perhaps she recognized her since Selena was a prominent businesswoman.

However, Selena appeared indifferent.

"Liam, are we going back to the school?" Lisa asked.

"Yes, but I have to take this lady to her house," Liam replied, glancing at Selena.

Lisa looked surprised again, though she seemed hesitant to ask where Selena lived, so she kept quiet.

At that moment, Alice jumped from a building rooftop onto Simba’s back.

"Alice!"

Selena looked shocked, her lips parting slightly.

She scanned Alice from head to toe, taking in her gown-clad figure—though her pale skin now looked unnatural.

"You... What happened?" she asked.

"Auntie!" Alice exclaimed, equally surprised.

The way she addressed Selena made it clear they were relatives, though Liam wasn’t sure if Selena was Charles Avenhart’s sister or just a cousin—since as far as he knew, Charles didn’t have a sister.

"Alice, what happened to you? Why are you here?" Selena asked.

And Alice appeared to struggle to answer her questions.
