Road to be the Best Chess Player in the World!
Chapter 333: A Beautiful Execution! An Immortal Game!
CHAPTER 333: A BEAUTIFUL EXECUTION! AN IMMORTAL GAME!
"Oh! Sheva sacrifices the knight! He left the knight to die!" Sarah gasped in surprise. Then, she turned around to Claudia and asked, "The question is, is this a good sacrifice or a bad one?"
Even though Sarah was a novice in this sport, even more amateur than her boyfriend, the girl still knew that one thing that could excite the chess game the most was a good sacrifice. She could also see that Bagas was shaking here, either from excitement or nervousness. Still, since her boyfriend was not the expert, she decided to go for the more knowledgeable one in this table.
"It is definitely a good sacrifice," Claudia answered with a bright smile. It was clear that the girl was also excited about this. "Pushing the H pawn one square forward is a subtle yet clever move here. After Sabino Brunello takes the knight, Sheva could take the pawn on the G file immediately, tearing down the opponent’s chain pawn while also opening up the way for his other pieces to get closer to the black king." She explained in one breath.
"What if he doesn’t take the sacrifice, though?" Bagas asked a valid question.
Claudia pondered for a moment, her eyes locked on the screen in front of her. The couple just waited patiently, knowing that the girl was calculating inside her mind right now. After a while, she finally shook her head, saying, "While it is possible, I don’t think that Sabino Brunello would take that knight."
"Oh?"
"Well... He has already pushed his king far ahead just to get that knight, so if he doesn’t take it, he would lose tempo by a wide margin. I mean, look at the evaluation bar carefully. If I move my king back... There! Sheva’s advantage is increasing, so it is definitely not a good decision." Claudia explained while also showing the move on the screen.
Well, even though he didn’t hear what Claudia said, Sabino Brunello also agreed with the assessment. Right now, the man’s frown was so deep that even his eyebrows met on the bridge of his nose. While yes, not taking the knight was not an option here, he still couldn’t believe he got lured so far from his territory like this.
’No, it is not the time to regret this decision.’ He shook his head, trying to regain his composure. ’Right now, I need to think of a way to do the damage control. After this, he will definitely take my pawn with the check, so I have to move back immediately. Then, take again and check, then I could take with my bishop, and exchange it with his knight, take, and yes! Even though my king is out of position, at least, the threat has been neutralized!’
Still, even though he was satisfied with the plan formed inside his head, the reality was not friendly to the veteran GM. Sheva’s queen was sniping from behind, and when the exact same scenario was on the board, it slid beautifully like a bishop, pointing its gun straight at the black king with only one square separating them.
"OH! Yes! Sheva makes the best move here!" Bagas applauded excitedly, knowing that the game should be on Sheva’s bag by now. It was a blind confidence, but the boy didn’t care. He knew that once Sheva was in this kind of situation, there was no way his best friend would choke so badly and throw away the game. "Now, Sheva is going for a king’s hunt, chasing his opponent’s king to the edge of the world! Come on!"

The live chat exploded as everyone cheered for Sheva. Even though this was a pretty normal occasion in this tournament since the boy won the majority of the game, not a single person wouldn’t feel excited when they saw their favorite player winning a game like this. Moreover, the way Sheva got an advantage was beautiful. He sacrificed a whole knight to lure the king out of protection, and now, the boy would also force the same king to do the walk of shame.
True enough, the king had to move in circles. First, it went forward to chase Sheva’s knight, then it got hunted by the opponent’s pieces relentlessly, getting forced to go back to the edge of the board. After everything unfolded, the king was back to the original square before it went wild, but this time, it was surrounded by Sheva’s strongest pieces on the board.
To make it worse, the king was completely isolated from his subordinates. The closest one that could help it was the rook, but it wouldn’t be enough to protect the king from the wave of the incoming attack. The queen that seemed to be threatening a few moves ago now turned into a useless statue, standing on the other side of the board helplessly as its path to support the king was blocked by the black knight.
Now, Sabino Brunello had both hands on his hair, having a headache as the man was trying to find a way to get out of this situation. Well... That was not really the case. The veteran GM knew that his fate was sealed here. He just wanted to burn his time lamenting how in the hell did everything go downhill into this situation.
’I underestimated him.’ He said it with a grim face. ’Despite the fact that I know he is in a great form, I still didn’t think too much about him, feeling like once I show a weakness, he would be too eager to push and make a mistake. I am so wrong in this.’ He smiled bitterly.
Yeah, Sabino Brunello learned a little bit about Sheva last night, and he knew that Sheva had done amazingly in this tournament. Unfortunately, his ego as a veteran GM blinded him from seeing the danger that the boy possessed, and he was about to pay the price right now.
He still wanted to resist, but in the end, Sheva didn’t give him a chance to breathe. After surviving for about ten more moves, Sabino Brunello finally let out a deep sigh, staring at the young man in front of him with a complicated gaze before offering a handshake.
He resigned.
