Chapter 20: Were You the One Behind Those Men That Night?
CHAPTER 20: CHAPTER 20: WERE YOU THE ONE BEHIND THOSE MEN THAT NIGHT?
"...Thanks." Summer Nolan stood up, her face not looking good, and said to him, taking his coat. Would wearing his coat be too conspicuous?
But that’s better than having people see the wet spot on her back, right?
Summer Nolan took off her short black suit jacket and put on his, which was just long enough to cover the area below the hips.
She unwrapped a sanitary pad, took one out, put it in the inner pocket of his blazer, and went to the restroom.
The colleagues outside all looked at her, but Summer Nolan could only ignore their gazes.
Elias Spencer went to the pantry, poured her a cup of hot water, and threw the ibuprofen he bought on her desk. When Summer returned and saw the hot water and painkillers, she looked at the man opposite—
She was actually somewhat moved.
"Take the medicine and go back, don’t faint here, or people might think I bullied you." His tone remained icy and indifferent, with no warmth.
Summer Nolan took a tablet of ibuprofen, looking at the stacks of documents that still needed reviewing on the conference table, she said, "I’ll feel better after taking the medicine, no need to go back."
Elias Spencer glanced at her but said nothing more.
"Don’t you think Summit’s annual profit is a bit low?" she suddenly asked the man opposite.
"Hmm." Of course, Elias Spencer had already noticed this.
"I’ve found that quite a few project expenses are significant, and most projects end in failure for various reasons. These are the usual tricks bosses and finance use to falsify accounts for arbitrage. We could check the accounts where the funds are flowing."
If Summit’s annual profit is lower, it means less tax and dividends for the ten shareholders.
The project funds likely ended up in the president of Summit’s pockets, right?
"Attorney Nolan, our goal is to facilitate the merger, not to bring down Summit’s chairman." Elias Spencer lit a cigarette, his gaze lazy and indifferent as he reminded her.
Summer Nolan crossed her arms and leaned back in her chair, her expression slightly somber—
"Without them providing the real accounts, how can you claim they’re falsifying? Do you really think they’ll let you investigate thoroughly?" He asked again, wasn’t this woman just interested in making money?
Why suddenly being so earnest?
Summer Nolan suddenly smiled, "I’m just casually chatting with you about this. Our goal, of course, is to facilitate the merger."
Elias Spencer’s phone suddenly rang, he glanced at it, it was actually Mrs. Vaughn, he pressed to answer, "Hello—"
"Hello Attorney Spencer, do you have time today? I’d like to talk to you about something." She asked directly.
He took a drag from his cigarette, exhaled a puff of smoke, and replied after a moment, "Six o’clock at The Tipsy Bar."
Summer Nolan recognized the woman’s voice and guessed her purpose in seeking out the man, she just hadn’t expected he would agree to meet her.
Was he planning to help that woman win the lawsuit to get back at me for taking his case?
The earlier feeling of being moved vanished without a trace.
She faintly smiled nonchalantly, let’s see how he plans to help that woman!
Afternoon quitting time.
Elias Spencer was tidying up his things while speaking to the woman opposite, "Go feed Elias."
Summer Nolan couldn’t help but laugh, going to scheme with another woman and asking me to go to his house to accompany the dog?
He sure has the nerve.
"Ask your gentle and adorable assistant to do it, don’t you trust her?" she said coldly, grabbing her bag and leaving, still wearing his coat.
The Tipsy Bar.
In her thirties, Mrs. Vaughn wore a form-fitting red spaghetti strap gown tonight, her wavy hair draped over one shoulder.
She wore exquisite heavy makeup on her face.
With an alluring bad smile, she pulled her dress down a bit, although she was married, she kept her figure and looks very well.
While the man hadn’t arrived yet, she opened her bag, took out five pills, and put them into the red wine bottle—
"Tonight... I must conquer you here!" Mrs. Vaughn smiled slyly.
After sleeping with him, he’ll have no choice but to help with the lawsuit.
Before long, the private room door was pushed open, and she excitedly looked at the cold yet handsome man. He was dressed in a neat white shirt, one hand in his pocket, expressionless as he walked in.
She stood up, "Attorney Spencer, come sit..."
Elias Spencer sat down a bit further away from her, crossing his legs against the couch back.
Mrs. Vaughn took two new wine glasses, poured two glasses, and handed one to him, "Thank you so much, Attorney Spencer, for taking the time out of your busy schedule to meet with me. Let me toast to you."
He didn’t take the glass, turning his head, his gaze indifferent as he looked at her, "If Mrs. Vaughn has something to discuss, just say it."
"Let’s have a drink first?" She offered the glass to him again.
Elias Spencer glanced down coolly at the glass, still not taking it; he was not here to drink with her.
Seeing he didn’t drink, Mrs. Vaughn was somewhat frustrated, and deliberately said,
"I ran into Attorney Nolan at the restaurant this noon. She was sitting with Director Dawson from your firm. Do you want to know their secret?"
What did this woman overhear Summer Nolan and the sly old fox talking about?
What secrets do they have?
Elias Spencer stared deeply at the woman, took her wine glass, and drank the wine in one go, asking coolly, "What secret do they have?"
Mrs. Vaughn was pleased to see him drink.
She drank from her own glass, quickly pouring more for both of them, then tauntingly said,
"Attorney Nolan and that guy named Zhou are involved, no wonder Director Zhou poached her."
Hearing her words, Elias Spencer’s gaze swept sharply over, his tone also colder, "Don’t talk nonsense."
"That’s what Lily Dunn, Attorney Dunn, said. Summer Nolan has always been your arch-enemy and even snatched your case, Attorney Spencer. Why don’t you help me win this lawsuit and teach her a lesson?"
She placed one hand on his shoulder, her fingers gently trailed down his body, Elias Spencer took a drag of his cigarette, turning to look at her—
"Don’t worry, I can offer you generous compensation, including myself..."
Seeing he didn’t refuse, she quickly added, leaning in closer, savoring the cold scent on him, "Attorney Spencer, are you interested in some excitement here?"
Just as Mrs. Vaughn was about to kiss his handsome profile, the man suddenly grabbed her throat tightly!
She was startled.
The air was completely cut off, her face turned red with discomfort, and she frantically clawed at his large hand, speaking with difficulty:
"Attorney Spencer, what are you doing? Have I offended you somehow?"
"Please, let me go, will you?"
"I’m really uncomfortable... I beg you... *cough*... *cough*..."
She went through the entire incident in her head and couldn’t recall offending him. Why is he doing this to me?
Elias Spencer gripped her throat, his gaze icy and sharp as he asked, "Were you the one who instructed those two men to teach Summer Nolan a lesson that night?"
