Run Away After Flirting: Get Lost, Mr. Attorney!
Chapter 29: Shocked—Did She Wrong Him?
CHAPTER 29: CHAPTER 29: SHOCKED—DID SHE WRONG HIM?
Summer Nolan was surprised by what she heard!!!
Her heart skipped a beat involuntarily.
That night, he went to meet this enchanting woman not to conspire against me, but to warn her not to touch me?
I wronged him?
Was he manipulated by this woman with something in the drink that night?
I actually left without checking on him—
"There’s really nothing between you two?" Mrs. Vaughn looked at her intently and asked again.
Summer didn’t respond to her question. At the moment, her heart was filled with regret towards that man. She returned to the hospital room to change her clothes, sent a message to her mom, and left.
-
Trisight Law Firm.
Summer went to Summit first, only to find out he was handling other cases at the firm today.
As she walked into the firm, she deliberately observed her colleagues’ reactions. Seeing that they weren’t gossiping or whispering about her, she felt relieved.
It seemed he hadn’t spread what happened that night.
"Click—" She didn’t knock, just pushed open Elias Spencer’s office door.
The tall man standing by the floor-to-ceiling window turned his head, his well-defined brows furrowed slightly.
Summer walked up to him and, not caring whether he was on an important call, suddenly hooked his belt with her finger, tugging it gently back and forth—
Elias Spencer looked down at her actions, stunned... then suddenly waved her hand away coldly, continuing to converse seriously with the client on the phone.
Summer was secretly annoyed, and dissatisfied, she grabbed his tie and pulled him forward suddenly!
"Ugh..." He grunted uncontrollably, his cold eyes fixed on this woman, what exactly did she intend to do?
He tried to pull her hand off the tie, but she only gripped tighter. Brow furrowing, he could only say to the person on the phone:
"Sorry, Mr. Lewis, I have an urgent matter here. Let’s talk later."
After hanging up, he tugged at his tie again, which was still firmly held by her, coldly saying:
"Attorney Nolan, this is a law firm. If you want to flirt, go to a nightclub."
Summer shook his tie, smiling as she asked, "Is Attorney Spencer upset about me getting a room with another man?"
His sudden cold attitude really made her suspicious.
"You’re overthinking. Whoever you get a room with, it has nothing to do with me." He said, hands in his pockets, voice deep.
Was she really overthinking? Fine, she nodded slightly and continued,
"I came to thank you. I know you warned Mrs. Vaughn and even beat her up for me. Also, thank you for taking me to the hospital."
"I warned her simply because you’re now my law firm’s partner," Elias Spencer’s tone was icy, his gaze shifting away from her face.
Summer felt a surge of disappointment at his words, releasing his tie, she smiled and said:
"Regardless, thank you for taking me to the hospital, and for the trouble these past few days. I’ll work extra to make up for it. How about dinner tonight?"
"No need." He rejected her directly, his long lashes casting a small shadow beneath his eyes, his profile colder and more rigid than usual.
Summer’s fingertips curled subconsciously, an inexplicable tightness in her chest, unused to his cold demeanor.
The sense of distance felt like an icy needle pricking lightly into her heart.
She suddenly smiled, "Alright then, get back to work."
With that, she turned and left his office.
Don’t be lovesick, being lovesick affects your career! Besides, he’s not into your type! She silently reminded herself.
She went straight to Summit to work overtime.
At night.
Past eleven, Mrs. Nolan called her daughter only to find her phone was off! The cold hadn’t fully recovered, where did she go so late?
It’s so late, why isn’t she home?
With no other choice, she called her daughter’s colleague—
Elias Spencer was already in bed, almost asleep when the phone on the bedside table rang, forcing his eyes open.
It’s so late, who could it be?
The ringing persisted; he sat up, turned on the lamp, and glanced at the phone, recognizing immediately it was Summer’s mother’s number.
What’s she calling for at this hour?
"Hello, good evening, ma’am. How can I help you?" He asked, his voice slightly hoarse with sleep.
Mrs. Nolan, hearing his politeness and pleasant voice, wondered how anyone could find him annoying? Was her daughter’s judgment off?
"I just wanted to ask if you and Summer are still working overtime? It’s almost midnight, and the work can’t be endless. Her cold hasn’t fully healed; what if it worsens?" she complained slightly.
Hearing her concern, Elias Spencer frowned, saying only: "I’ll give her a call."
"Her phone’s off," Mrs. Nolan mentioned.
"I’ll go check on her, no need to worry," he replied, hanging up, getting out of bed to dress.
In the Summit conference room.
At this moment, Summer was sitting alone, focused on reviewing documents. After sleeping for several days, she wasn’t sleepy at all.
The company had cameras everywhere, so even with an outsider staying, they didn’t worry much.
She was tapping away on her laptop when the door suddenly creaked. Startled, she relaxed upon seeing it was Elias.
"It’s so late, what are you doing here, Attorney Spencer?" she asked indifferently.
"Your mom called me. Stop working, go home early," Elias Spencer walked over and directly took the contract in front of her.
Glancing at her watch, it was only twelve. Since she couldn’t sleep anyway, she might as well work another hour. She retrieved the contract he’d taken,
"I slept for days, not tired now. You go home."
She still hasn’t recovered from the cold, what’s she pushing herself for?
Elias Spencer removed the contract again, saved the computer files, and pulled her up from the chair!
Irritated, she flung his hand away, looking at him and laughed,
"Weren’t you keeping your distance from me, Attorney Spencer? Why meddle in my business? If you’re distancing, do it thoroughly!"
If not for seeking revenge for her father, she wouldn’t have joined his firm or gotten this close.
Elias Spencer looked at her deeply, unsure what to say after a while—
"Go tend to your assistant,"
She picked up her things and walked out without acknowledging him, but at the front hall’s access control, she pressed for a good while, the door just wouldn’t open!
She tapped it a bit harder, but the door still gave no response.
Is it broken?
Elias Spencer stepped out too, witnessing her fruitless effort to open the door. After trying a few presses himself with no results, he calmly said:
"Let’s go back to the conference room. It’s too late now; the repair folks will come tomorrow."
