CHAPTER 62: CHAPTER 62: MRS. NOLAN IS GOING TO ATTORNEY SPENCER’S HOME FOR DINNER!
-
The next morning.
Mrs. Nolan was out shopping for decorations for the new house again, and today she didn’t call Ian Sterling. After all, he had a fiancée, and repeatedly seeking him out would devalue her daughter.
But while on the street, as an aging beauty, she was unexpectedly harassed by a few rogue thugs!
This made her quite embarrassed. Looking at the thugs, she assumed the posture of an elder and said,
"Though I look a bit young, I’m old enough to be your mother. Are you blind to harass me? Why don’t you scram?"
The three sleazy thugs saw her; indeed, she wasn’t a young girl. No choice, they’d taken the employer’s money—
"As long as she looks good, what does it matter if she’s young or not? Come, play with us for a bit?" they said, trying to shove her into a car.
At that moment, a black Rolls-Royce parked not far away opened its door, and a handsome man stepped out, punching and kicking the thugs away.
"You, you stay here if you dare! I’ll bring more people!" The three thugs saw their employer and coordinated by spouting harsh words before scurrying off.
"Are you alright?" Elias Spencer asked.
Mrs. Nolan patted her chest, breathed a sigh of relief, and gratefully said, "I’m fine, fine. Thanks just now, I really don’t know how to thank you enough!"
"It was just a little help; don’t mention it," he said.
After calming down, Mrs. Nolan noticed how truly handsome the man was—more so than Mr. Sterling, with rimless glasses and an air of nobility.
He definitely wasn’t an ordinary person.
Looking more closely, this man... seemed vaguely familiar.
She remembered; wasn’t this the famous Renowned Attorney Spencer?
"Are you Attorney Spencer?" Mrs. Nolan asked him.
"You know me?" Elias Spencer pretended not to recognize her.
"You’re so famous and often on the media; how could I not? I’m Summer Nolan’s mother, aren’t you two colleagues? Last time when she had a severe cold and fainted, you took her to the hospital.
I’ve always wanted to thank you, and what a coincidence this is?" she said, laughing with surprise.
"So you’re Aunt Nolan..." Elias Spencer feigned ’surprise’ as well.
"You’re really a benefactor to Summer and me. How about this—when we’re off work, Summer and I will treat you to dinner. Do you have time?" Mrs. Nolan asked.
This young man looked really good, dressed so extraordinarily well—why does her daughter have so many wealthy and handsome men around her?
And she hasn’t taken a liking to any?
"Of course, why don’t you come to my place? Summer and I are well-acquainted; going out seems too formal," Elias Spencer suggested intentionally.
"To your house? Won’t that be inconvenient?" Mrs. Nolan asked with a surprised smile. He actually invited them to his place for dinner?
This was truly sincere.
Her daughter said they were arch-enemies, incompatible, but this young man seemed very easy to get along with. Previously on the phone, he had warmly called her Auntie.
How endearing!
"I live alone at The Apex Towers, and I have a cook come over. It’s very convenient," Elias Spencer said with one hand in his pocket, looking like a modest gentleman, less aloof.
"You also live at The Apex Towers? What a coincidence... we bought our new house there too!" Mrs. Nolan was excited and very surprised. What kind of fate was this?
Is this man possibly her daughter’s true love?
"That’s quite the coincidence," Elias Spencer said, wearing a ’surprised’ expression. He wasn’t much good at acting.
"Alright then, Summer and I will come over together. You go ahead, I won’t disturb you any longer," Mrs. Nolan said.
"Okay, but be careful when you’re out alone. Call me if anything happens," he said with concern.
After he finished speaking, he walked to his too-flashy Rolls-Royce Phantom, where his bodyguard opened the door for him to get in.
Mrs. Nolan watched the car, blinking in shock—another Rolls-Royce? And a limited edition Phantom at that!
Goodness, everyone is wealthier than the next!
As she left, she pulled out her phone to call her daughter. Once connected, she excitedly said:
"Guess what happened to me just now?"
Summer Nolan was in the law firm, having just seen Mr. Vaughn off. His lawsuit was going to trial tomorrow.
His wife had been keeping lovers outside, fooling around, getting pregnant with other men several times, and the evidence of her abortions had long been gathered by a private investigator.
"What happened?" Summer asked while the phone was on speaker, tapping away on her keyboard.
"I was actually harassed by some damned thugs!" Mrs. Nolan said angrily.
Upon hearing her mom’s words, she immediately put down her work and asked anxiously, "Are you alright?"
"Lucky that a kind person came and drove those thugs away. Guess who saved me?" Mrs. Nolan teased.
Summer heaved a sigh of relief, "... Was it Ian Sterling?"
"Not him at all; guess again."
"Just tell me, I still have work to do," Summer urged her, resigned.
"It was your so-called arch-enemy, Elias Spencer! He really is good-looking, drives a Rolls-Royce, and was very kind to me.
Girl, is there something wrong with your eyes that you don’t get along with him?" Mrs. Nolan pursed her lips.
Seeing how excited her mom was, Summer smirked slightly. Could it be that her mom’s target for a wealthy son-in-law had shifted to Elias Spencer?
How could he afford a Rolls-Royce?
He surely rented it, right? She’d never seen him drive such a car.
"By the way, after work, come with me to his place for dinner. Last time when you were sick, he took you to the hospital; we must thank him properly this time," Mrs. Nolan said before hanging up.
Summer widened her eyes in shock—to Elias Spencer’s house for dinner?
Why go to his place?
How come her mom got so chummy with handsome guys?! Does she know him well enough to make herself at home?
"Knock, knock—" sounded from her office, and when the door was pushed open by the receptionist, the person who walked in was Ian Sterling; she stood up and asked:
"Why are you here?"
"Why didn’t you go to Summit today?" Ian thought she was upset and hadn’t gone, so he came personally to explain.
"I had to deal with other cases this morning. If you needed anything, you could have called. It wasn’t necessary to come personally,"
Summer spoke calmly, with no emotion, leading him to sit on the sofa. The receptionist brought in two cups of coffee.
"Sorry about last night, didn’t mean to ruin your mood. You’re not mad at me, are you?" Ian asked, looking at her.
"Of course not, we’re friends. How could I be mad over something so trivial?" she said, taking a sip of coffee.
"Although my family arranged an engagement, I’ve never agreed to it, and I absolutely won’t marry that little girl. I’ll handle the situation," he explained further, wanting to clear any misunderstanding.
