Chapter 63: Don’t You Have Any Ex-Boyfriend Boundaries?
CHAPTER 63: CHAPTER 63: DON’T YOU HAVE ANY EX-BOYFRIEND BOUNDARIES?
"You actually don’t need to explain this to me. We’re just friends," Summer Nolan said to him with a smile.
Ethan Quinn was silent for a while, then looked up at her and asked earnestly, "What if I fell in love with you at first sight and wanted to pursue you?"
"Mr. Sterling, we’ve only known each other for a few days. I also don’t know you well. If you pursue me, I would feel a lot of pressure and be repulsed." She deliberately delayed. She couldn’t talk about feelings with him.
Ian Sterling nodded in understanding, knowing that she wasn’t that easy to pursue. "So, we’re still friends now?"
"Of course, I still have a very good impression of you," Summer Nolan said.
"Really?" Ian Sterling’s mood immediately lifted upon hearing her words. So, the chances of succeeding were still quite high, eh?
"How about coming over to my place for dinner tonight? Try my cooking skills."
"Tonight... I have to work overtime and be busy with work, maybe next time."
Summer Nolan still hadn’t pushed away her mom’s plans, and didn’t dare agree to him. Her mom was quite persistent and she didn’t know if she could turn down going to Elias Spencer’s house?
Why would that man actively let her and her mom go to his house? What was he up to?
At the front hall of the law firm, Elias Spencer walked in with his hand in his pocket, his long legs taking strides. The two secretaries immediately greeted him respectfully, "Attorney Spencer, you’re here?"
"Hmm, is Summer Nolan here this morning?" He stopped to ask.
"Yes, Mr. Sterling from Summit is in her office right now," the secretary replied.
Elias Spencer’s brows furrowed slightly. Wasn’t that man there to explain something to her? He already had a fiancée; what was there to explain?
She wouldn’t be interested in a man with a fiancée, would she?
He returned to his office, deliberately leaving the door open. A few minutes later, he saw the woman and Ian Sterling passing by — where were they going?
Going on a date during working hours?
Elias Spencer’s handsome face turned slightly cold —
Summer Nolan had an appointment with a major client downstairs at the law firm and was just going downstairs with Ian Sterling.
A former colleague had given her a total of five major client contacts; she only signed one last time, hoping she could succeed with this one today too.
She had just sat in her car when her phone rang. She took a glance and answered, "Attorney Spencer, do you need something?"
"Going on a date during working hours?" Elias Spencer asked in an official tone.
"What’s the matter, are you jealous?" Summer Nolan raised her eyebrows and smiled, as she had glanced at him when passing by his office earlier, wondering where he had gone this morning.
To rescue mom?
"If you’re so free, think about taking more cases and earning your own money. Stop always thinking about marrying into a wealthy family."
Elias Spencer spoke coldly with displeasure, suddenly remembering his own wealthy family background, and quickly added:
"If you want to marry into a wealthy family, you should first look at what kind of people their parents are. Do you think the Sterling family’s parents would accept you?"
"Whom I choose to marry is none of Attorney Spencer’s business. Stop worrying about it," Summer Nolan scoffed at the phone, feeling like she wanted to go over and slap him a few times — he was really bothering.
Did he not have any sense of boundary as a former boyfriend?
"I’m just kindly reminding you," Elias Spencer said awkwardly.
"Couldn’t it be that you’re jealous that Ian Sterling has more money and a better family background than you?" Summer Nolan speculated while laughing.
She had never thought about marrying into a wealthy family. If she wanted that, she would have agreed long ago to the many bosses and heirs who pursued her.
She wouldn’t have chosen the ordinary background of Elias Spencer.
She always thought that Elias Spencer was like her, just very prominent, but not part of the wealthy family category.
Elias Spencer was amused by her words... Ian Sterling has more money than him? Better family background? Which eye did she see with?
Quickly go to the hospital and get checked!
Don’t delay!!
"I’m not talking to you anymore. Do your own business well, stop being jealous of others, and don’t meddle in my private affairs," Summer Nolan said before hanging up the phone and starting the car to drive off.
Currently, there’s no time to ask why he invited mom to his place for dinner?
Elias Spencer heard her words and his chest heaved a few times, really getting infuriated! He pushed his glasses up, smiling.
This foolish woman —
She really should get her eyes checked!!!
-
In the afternoon, during the end of working hours, Summer Nolan was still discussing a case with the last client. She had seen all four of Veritas United’s clients today.
Successfully signed contracts with three.
The last one had a close relationship with Ethan Quinn and was not willing to be poached by her. No problem, she turned to sign with his brother who was competing for family assets.
She then fulfilled her promise and transferred four hundred thousand to the former colleague. Keeping one’s word is important.
Mrs. Nolan made several calls urging her. The client saw her phone ring nonstop and agreed to continue discussing tomorrow night.
Summer Nolan drove to Elias Spencer’s apartment building and saw her mom’s car, walked over and knocked on the window, directly saying:
"Don’t go to Elias Spencer’s house. Isn’t it inappropriate to go to his house for dinner on the first occasion? Just invite him for a meal outside instead."
Mrs. Nolan got out of the car, carrying a fruit basket and an Armani bag, which contained the gift she had carefully selected that afternoon.
"How can that be? Attorney Spencer has already texted me saying that dinner is ready and asking when we’ll arrive. Saying no now would be too offensive, wouldn’t it?"
"We’re coworkers, offending him a little is not an issue. I’ll call him and invite him to eat out," Summer Nolan said, taking out her phone, but before she could dial, her phone was suddenly snatched away by her mom! She then grabbed her hand and dragged her toward the hall:
"We’re already here, let’s go, stop dawdling."
Summer Nolan frowned slightly, feeling a bit helpless. That man should pretend he wasn’t very familiar with her, right?
And Elias, he should have locked him up first, right?
Once upstairs, exiting the elevator, Mrs. Nolan was amazed by the spacious and bright yet low-key and elegant foyer. Look at that artificial mountain, so beautiful, with mist swirling around.
And the fish pond, the goldfish inside were fat and big, very pretty!
"This place is much bigger than the house we just bought," Mrs. Nolan exclaimed.
"Hey, this foyer design is nice. Should we also do an artificial mountain and fish pond? To bring good luck!" She nudged her daughter to inquire.
"Do you know how much this set costs? Stop worrying about it, just buy some chairs and place them outside," Summer Nolan said to her mom.
"Don’t even buy chairs, just sit on the ground?" Mrs. Nolan looked at her and said.
Summer Nolan considered the scene and couldn’t help but laugh.
The living room door was open, and suddenly Elias heard her voice. Excited, he ran out wagging his big tail and jumped on Summer Nolan!
Licking and whining.
Extremely excited.
Summer Nolan stiffly stood there, not daring to pet him or comfort him, her neck stiffly turned to glance at her mom —
She saw her mom staring at her and the dog with a look of surprise, her mind racing for excuses.
"Achoo!"
Mrs. Nolan smelled the dog odor and sneezed, stepping back a few steps, she inquisitively asked,
"Is this Attorney Spencer’s dog? Why is it so friendly with you?"
