CHAPTER 60: DISK

The necromancer thought it was a bluff and laughed.

"Am I funny?"

Zephyr stood on one leg with his hand and foot pointing at his enemy. He indeed looked funny. And he had no reason to raise his foot to multi-cast since he could release two spells from the same hand, since they were activating independently.

Still, he did so to be dramatic.

"You do." The necromancer said, his lips curving upwards.

"You look like a fool." He added a short while later.

"Let’s see who the real fool is."

The moment Zephyr ended his sentence, two larger dark mana balls flew out of the necromancer’s hand.

One at himself.

The other towards the villagers.

Both were big enough to swallow an entire person. The necromancer must have consumed a good chunk of mana to use it.

Zephyr watched it approach and activated two mana bolts, both enhanced with 10 light element modifiers. He sent them both towards the necromancer.

The necromancer paused in disbelief.

He can multi-cast!

And, why is he not saving the villagers!

He believed Zephyr must do something to save the villagers. However, contrary to what he expected, he disregarded the villagers’ safety to attack him with two spells.

The strengthened mana bolt glowed brightly, one coming towards him while the other drilled into the large dark ball he released.

He watched in awe as the mana bolt exploded inside the dark mana ball he released, scattering it away.

The other one blitzed forward to kill him.

If he could do that, shouldn’t he stop the dark mana ball he released towards the villagers! Was that why he appeared out here?

"Ah!" Groaning loudly, the necromancer raised his hand again.

In panic, he activated a defence spell to block.

Suddenly, a black wall of mana formed before him, taking on the full brunt of the attack.

Fortunately, he was an experienced mage and could react quickly and activate his defence. Or else, he would have taken some damage.

He grimly turned his attention towards Zephyr.

At that time, he noticed something incredulous.

While he was defending, the spinning river of mana over Zephyr’s head had tilted on its side.

It moved gently to block the dark mana ball he released at the villagers.

The moment the dark mana ball struck the mana stream, it melted into it, absorbed, and disappeared into the center. The stream of mana suffered some damage, losing a chunk of its mana, but it was not enough to break it.

The necromancer widened his eyes.

At the same time, he felt a chill travel down his spine. He didn’t know when Zephyr cast the spell, but a mana pulse was coming out of the ground.

The wet ground felt like a threat, and he jumped up.

"Swish."

"Bzzzttt"

The moment he jumped, a burst of lightning flashed off the ground, trying to grab his leg.

The necromancer immediately activated his floating spell to remain in the air.

"Huh! When! How!"

How many spells did Zephyr cast in that moment?

The necromancer looked in shock at the young man standing nearby.

Was he the same person they called a defective mage?

He had the mana level befitting a beginner mage. And his control over his mana was absolutely monstrous.

How could he be a defective mage?

Were the old coldgers at the Tower going senile?

Why else would they banish someone like him to the outskirts of the kingdom?

"Who are you, bastard?" He shouted at Zephyr.

Zephyr turned around, frowning.

"You can call me father. Or lovingly call me daddy."

Zephyr shouted back, taking a few steps back in the process.

His eyes gazed at the necromancer floating in the air and sighed.

’Yes. As I expected, these buggers can fly.’

The one thing that makes all intermediate mages superior to even master knights is their ability to fly. With flight, they could escape from almost all danger.

That was also one of the reasons why mages are considered the apex of power in the world.

Watching the necromancer fly up, Zephyr sighed and ground his teeth.

It was frustrating to face an enemy like that.

Meanwhile, a large disk-shaped object flew through the air carrying Corvinus, Zolt, and a dozen other mages.

The disk was a flying magical vehicle made by the Storm Tower. They were using it to fly to the West Coast quickly.

They had already passed the Viscount Whitewater’s mansion and were moving towards the beach. In about an hour, they would reach the west coast.

"We are late," Corvinus complained.

He was sitting at the front, on a carved stone chair attached to the top of the disk. Magical runes of all kinds were fluttering around him, acting like a windshield, preventing everyone else from being swept away.

"..." Zolt ignored him.

"Hey, can’t you hear me?"

*Sigh*

Zolt turned to the old man sitting next to him. He wanted to pull out the long, pointy beard of the person talking.

"Why are you looking at my beard? Are you jealous?" Corvinus smiled.

*Sigh*

Zolt sighed again.

There was no stopping it. Corvinus was known to be a yapper. He likes to talk without end whenever he is doing anything.

Zolt felt a little tired sitting next to the yapper, hearing all his yaps.

"You should have come early. Because of you, we are late." Corvinus accused.

"Da..." Zolt almost cursed, but quickly shut his mouth.

Honestly, he was late because of preparing for the expedition. As a master mage of Storm Tower, he had to hand over his duty to someone else before coming here. So, he didn’t think spending a day to prepare thoroughly was bad.

"The demon could have already invaded the inner lands because of you." Corvinus didn’t stop.

"..."

"You should work extra hard to clean them up."

"..."

"I will be reporting to his majesty about all the lives lost because of the delay."

"..."

"It would have been better if we had flown here alone instead of carrying these baggages." Corvinus glanced at the men behind him.

There were both Royal Academy mages and Storm Tower mages behind him. He considered them dead weight.

"Zolty, I will take on the high rank demons. You should act as my clean-up crew." He commented after thinking for a while.

However, being called ’Zolty’ almost made the shorter beard of the Zolt tremble. He turned his head to look at Corvinus with flames of fury burning in his eyes.

Corvinus shrugged his shoulder and continued to talk about anything and everything he could think of.
